Yeah, when I first saw that commercial I got a bad jones to listen to "Songs of You and Me."
"No problem that the CD is in storage in a basement in Ohio," I thought to myself.

Catbirdseat commented on Did PepsiCo Steal Ad From Tumblr Blogger?,
at 5:14 PM on May 19
Seven months ago, in a secret summit, Pepsico, Karp, Vimeo, and Gawker all came together to hammer out the details of what would eventually be a genius new "viral" marketing tactic, in which Karp posts a seemingly innocent video to Vimeo, and then after months of incubation, Pepsico unveils their "rip-off," with the understanding that Karp would then post about being ripped off, as would Gawker, and this all would ultimately lead to a groundbreaking new ad paradigm, which, not-unexpectedly, is cross-promoted by The Office, which is also somehow connected, because I know for a fact that I've seen that "Ryan" guy from the Office in a Vimeo video where he was lounging around with all the Connected Ventures guys on a yacht in Mexico.
I think Kevin Bacon is somehow involved too.

@TheBeard:
So, Beard, given (1.), we could also assume (2.)
(1.) Artists do what they do now, bloggers "re-release" the "free" music thru their sites, artists get donations, host gets ad revenue.
(2.) Painters do what they do now, gallery owner takes the "free" paintings and hangs them in a gallery, leaves a cup out on the table for artist donations, while charging every customer $20 to come in and look.
I mean, I'm all for thinking outside the box and figuring out a model for the future, but that scenario you just outlined doesn't fly for me.

I shit you not, the one I made up for the left side is an actual composite of old FTrain, Fireland, and Dooce posts, typeset with Kottke's 'Silkscreen' font.
