The Limority Report on Oct 5, 2008

i'm a regular visitor and have recently joined as a member, as i feel that i have much well-founded, constructive, UNgauche commentary to contribute to the site and its readers; however, i find it unsettling whenever i come across a post/comment that is unsuitable to the site, unrelated to the article or the site, and significantly reduces the site's integrity!

more specifically, within just ONE DAY, i've come across comments such as asking other lifehacker members / readers if anyone "wants a moustache ride" (i left a comment here, requesting that the person who posted please maintain the site's integrity) or if "drinking the blood of a virgin" helps with maintaining energy throughout the day (to which another "member" responded that he prefers to "drink the blood of skanky HOs"). in fact, the latter of the aforementioned comments were posted in response to your article: [lifehacker.com]

i am wondering if there is ANY WAY to DISCREETLY expose such comments for immediate editorial review or, better yet, removal due to offensive material??? i have yet to come across such a feature on lifehacker's new commenting system -- but, of course, who would ever expect that such an awesome site, with many readers who are well-educated and lack the trashy, offensive habits that are abundant on the WWW, would ever even need such a tool/feature!

within ONE DAY, i have seen enough of these to warrant action, perhaps a moderator??? in the grand scheme of things, these unmoderated, offensive comments will reduce your site's credibility and maybe even lose the respect of those of us who turn to lifehacker to get away from smut to begin with. what about the many well-known companies that submit funding to this site?? hasn't the lifehacker team worked very hard to earn the public's respect and to establish credibility???

with all due respect, if i didn't feel your site was worthy of bringing this to your attention, i wouldn't have taken the time and effort to write this email....

please advise....

On your "Free Replacements for Paid Tools" article you have a header titled:
Mail2Web instead of MobileMe ($100/year) or Exchage

Shouldn't that read "Exchange"? (I wouldn't have said anything, but it's a heading.)

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for writing up a great post about Dexrex. I would like to make a small clarification -- Dexrex is *not* an IM client. Logging in with your screen name is a convenience, so you don't have to identify yourself in a separate step -- but we aren't a web-based chat client.

Is there any chance you could update the post at [lifehacker.com] ?

Thanks,
~ Cristos

Kevin -- I've written several replies to comments on your post about Dexrex ([lifehacker.com]). Is there any chance you can speed up the account approval process, so that my responses will appear with the other posts? Thanks!

Dear Kevin,

Thank you very much for reviewing PicoWiki for Lifehacker. I wonder if you would be able to correct the spelling of the name and URL? It's picowiki (like, really small), not pikowiki.

Whether you can or not, thank you very much for the review.

Best regards,

Paul

Kevin,
In your topic on the top ten ... for Firefox 3, you mentioned the following about the search bar:
"and the find-on-page search box automatically grabs the currently selected word, just to name a few new UI improvements"
I'm not getting it. Is this like what Googles hit highlighting on a search does? and if so how do you do it? (Windows XP)

btw. I noiced Google just updated G-Space and Google litebar for FF3

Matt

Hi Kevin,

I sent you an email regarding our company GadgetTrak ( www.gadgettrak.com ) . We have changed quite a bit over the past year since we first launched our USB soluiton (which also maps location information, we were the first). We have also added software to recover stolen mobile phones, as well as laptops.
