Embroidered satin seemed to be the rage at the 1997 awards ceremony. Dressed like matronly grandmothers, No Doubt's Gwen Stefani and Fiona Apple posed together at the 39th Annual Grammy Awards. The following year Fiona would walk away Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for "Criminal" and No Doubt's "Don't Speak" would earn two Grammy noms. Unfortunately, the Anaheim band wouldn't get their first gramophone until 2003.
