Emeli Sandé, real name Adele, is almost as popular as her record-breaking namesake in the UK. Over the past two years, the 25-year-old Scotswoman has racked up five top 10 hits and a number one, platinum-selling album. Given the enormous buzz surrounding the soulful diva’s critically-acclaimed debut, chart success in the States would appear to be inevitable. She won a lot of new fans with a scaled-back tour in April and continued to impress with stellar performances on TV shows like Conan. Emeli definitely has the talent, with superstars like Alicia Keys clamouring to work with her, but time will tell if her gospel-tinged ballads and piano-driven pop songs find a home on radio. We certainly hope so.
