Another Neon Gold alum, Mr. Little Jeans first popped up on our radar a couple of years ago when she dropped an adorably lo-fi cover of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”. The Norwegian’s stellar rendition went viral but her debut single failed to take off despite being one of 2010’s most gloomily beautiful pop songs. She went back to the drawing board and re-emerged this year with a brilliant new single called “Runaway”, which has evoked almost-universal blog love with its dark and dreamy synths and haunting vocal. Mr. Little Jeans, real name Monica Birkeness, brings a splash of danger – not to mention an ability to blend retro-rock and electro-pop not heard since Ladyhawke’s debut – to the table, which sets her apart from the other Scandinavian divas and makes her one to watch in 2012.
