Oscars Will Be Less Musical This Year With No Best Song Performances
New Missy Elliott Track Featuring—Who Else?—Lil Wayne
Unreleased Nicole Sherzinger Tracks Don’t Exactly Make Us Wish They Were Released
Screen Jams: ‘Nine’
Screen Jams is our recurring look at the most buzzworthy new music featured in movies, TV shows, and video games—pretty much any form of entertainment you can enjoy with your eyes.
We kick off our new soundtrack column with a visit to Hollywood, by way of Broadway. We dived into the music of Nine, Rob Marshall’s film adaptation of the stage production, that stars pretty much everyone who won an Oscar, ever. But can any of them channel the swingin’ 60s better than Fergie? See below to hear our verdict:
The Pussycat Dolls: Expect ‘New Faces’
There might be a few less familiar sex kittens in the Pussycat Dolls the next time they slink onto stage. Last month, while rumors flew around like fur after a catfight that the Dolls were breaking up, group member Melody Thornton told us, “We need a break… It’s as simple as that. There’s nothing else behind it. Until the big man says I got a song and it’s time to work again, we’re on a break.”
PCD founder/head honcho Robin Antin also released a statement to Holy Moly denying a split, but noted that when the girl group returns, there will be “new music, new concepts, new faces and more hit songs!”

Take A Listen To 15 Years Of Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins’ Hits
Producer Rodney Jerkins (aka “Darkchild!”) posted a 50-song medley of some of his biggest hits on his blog, and—damn!—talk about a 8o mph joyride down memory lane.
All of the usual suspects are there (Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine,” Pussycat Dolls’ “When I Grow Up,” Jennifer Lopez’s “If You Had My Love,” Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name”). But there are also the Ohhhh…right! moments, as when we suddenly remembered that Rodney produced the original version of Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” before Thunderpuss got their hands on it.
“Thanks to the fans for all the love and support over the past 15 years,” Jerkins wrote on his blog. “This is a gift from me to you! I hope you enjoy it.”
And fear not—even the Spice Girls’ “Holler” made the cut. Have a listen to the “Darkchild Single Medley 50″ after the jump! More »
Pussycat Dolls’ Melody Thornton Says It’s Just A ‘Break,’ Not a Break Up
Are the Pussycat Dolls really breaking up because of feuding within the group? New York Post’s Page Six reports that Nicole Scherzinger (who previously tried sailing away from the five-piece pop act to unspectacular results) has sparked irreparable ire with the other members, and they’re breaking up for good. However, one particular Pussycat Doll exclusively tells us otherwise. More »
Slash Defends Fergie’s Rock Cred
After the cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Paradise City” from the unlikely combo of Slash, Fergie and Cypress Hill made its way online last week, former GNR guitarist Slash Hudson took to his Twitter account to defend the curvy Black Eyed Peas’ fox’s inclusion on the track. Or maybe he’s just making a general assessment about Fergie’s rock chops. More »
Have You Taken Time Out Of Your Day To Be Nice To Your Local Popstar?
In the wake of yesterday’s horrifying incident in London where an apparently lovestruck (??) fan punched the excessively inoffensive Leona Lewis, the British pop-clearinghouse Popjustice has released a manifesto declaring that we need to enter a new era of being nice to pop stars, and resisting the reflexive snark that has taken over so many corners of the Internet. “It should be possible for popstars to sign copies of mediocre books without fear of being hit around the head by a bellend,” writes Popjustice, “and it is the absolute right of anybody to go about their daily job without fear of being punched, unless they are Perez Hilton.” Well all right then! How can you be nice to a pop star today? Popjustice has a couple of ideas. More »
