‘American Idol’: Hollywood Week Begins!

6:45 AM on Wed Feb 10 2010 by Becky Bain
Season 9 of American Idol finally began to take shape last night as the show kicked off Hollywood Week with the long-awaited debut of Ellen DeGeneres at the judge's table. The show took the form of a sudden death round — contestants could sing one song a capella or with an instrument of their choice, and their performance would determine whether they would go home or stick around for more nerve-racking competition.

We were so crestfallen over the axing of certain promising contestants that we almost forgot to miss Paula Abdul. (Sorry, Paula! We'll still follow you on Twitter.) Did your favorite contestants make it through? And how did Ellen do on her first day on the job? Find out below. More »

Taylor Swift Named The “Voice Of A Generation” By President Of Her Label

12:24 PM on Thu Feb 4 2010 by Becky Bain
Oh, how quickly they fall. In just one off-key performance at the Grammys, Taylor Swift went from being the highly praised underdog to the girl everyone loves to put down. It's as though the whole world is filling in for Kanye West, and Scott Borchetta—the president and CEO of Swift's record label Big Machine Records—is the one voice defending Taylor's Grammy goof. But has the damage already been done to her career? More »

Gorillaz ‘Plastic Beach’ Preview Is Beautiful, Vague

3:37 PM on Wed Feb 3 2010 by Becky Bain
Gorillaz, the band whose members would prefer to hide behind cartoon apes instead of showing their faces, still move in mysterious ways: they've released a mystical, computer-animated preview video to promote their upcoming album Plastic Beach. In typical Gorillaz fashion, it drives us bananas by raising more questions than it answers. Take the jump to tour Gorillaz's lush animated seascape, set against a wistful orchestral track, while you scratch your heads considering what it all could mean. More »

LOL! Listen To Sabrina Washington’s “OMG”

11:49 AM on Wed Feb 3 2010 by Robbie Daw
Poor Sabrina Washington. Until now, the former lead vocalist for UK girl group Mis-Teeq has had to sit back and watch her onetime bandmate Alesha Dixon rack up a string of solo hits—and a 2010 Brit Award nomination—in their home country, while Sabrina herself has been stuck doing gigs like I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! (American listeners will know Mis-Teeq best from minor hit "Scandalous," which appeared on the Catwoman soundtrack a year before the trio split up.)

But the 31-year-old singer is finally recording her own solo album, and the Sugababes-esque first single "OMG" is due out in March. Is the tune worthy of its title? Find out below! More »

Best Country Performance Grammy winners Lady Antebellum can keep the bubbly flowing, as the trio's LP Need You Now will land at #1 on the new Billboard Top 200 Albums chart published tomorrow. The band's sophomore set ended up shifting 481,000 copies, making it the biggest sales week for a new album since Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream barreled out of the gate back in November.

So where does that leave trilling Scottish tart Boyle and the rest of the players this week? Hop below to see how things shook out. More »

The 2010 Academy Award Nominations: Where Are The Music Stars?

8:18 AM on Tue Feb 2 2010 by Robbie Daw
Wow. And we were grousing that the Grammys are usually an old boys club. The nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced this morning, and—no surprise here—Avatar and The Hurt Locker lead the pack with nine nominations each. Among those, James Cameron's blue-hued 3D epic snagged a nod for Original Score. But Leona Lewis' Avatar theme song "I See You," which was nominated for a Golden Globe, was snubbed. In fact, there weren't any major pop stars (no offense to Academy standby Randy Newman) singled out this year—not even Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O, for her critical fave Where The Wild Things Are tunes. The Morning Mix: The Grammys Liked It And Put A Ring On It

5:36 AM on Mon Feb 1 2010 by Becky Bain
Even though Taylor Swift nabbed the top prize at last night's Grammy Awards, Beyoncé was the one making history: with her six wins, Bey scored more wins in one night than any other female artist in the fifty-two years of the music awards ceremony. The only person who could steal the show from Beyoncé was her uber-adorable nephew, Juelz, who helped accept "Run This Town" with his uncle Jay-Z. Remember, he's also the son of the versatile Solange — imagine how talented that kid is going to be when he's grown up, let's mix it up:

Did You Hear?

:: Want to relive your favorite Grammy moments, or did you—heavens forbid—miss them altogether? We've got you covered: here's our liveblog of the event, our top tweets of the night, and a recap of all the performances so you can appear like you know what you're talking about around the watercooler.

:: Okay, so you only watched the Grammys to ooh and awe (or snarl and sneer) at everyone's outfits. Check out the Best and Worst in Grammy Fashion.

:: The Kings Of Leon guys weren't kidding about being drunk. They dish about enjoying "open bar" in a "box suite with some rich guy" in E!'s backstage report. [E! Online]

:: More backstage photo ops for your viewing pleasure. We're not sure who we desperately want to become BFFs more, Gaga and Elton John or Justin Bieber and Ke$ha. Maybe the four of them can double date once Justin is of age? [Oh No They Didn't, via Necole Bitchie]

:: Celebrate Lady Gaga's double Grammy win for Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronica Album with Gaga cupcakes. Or do you little monsters prefer dining on Ms. Germanotta in cookie form? At least the edible version of the Grammy winner doesn't have ash all over it like the real thing. [The Daily What]

Behind the jump: we give props to a Grammy shut-out. More »
