Justin Timberlake Is Dreaming Of A Better Day

Last month, I wrote about R & B Kings 2009, a mixtape from Big Mike and DJ Neptune that featured new tracks from Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Bobby Valentino; over the weekend, a sequel to the mix leaked. This edition also has brand-new tracks by Ri-Ri, Justin, and Bobby, as well as premiere tracks from R. Kelly and Ciara. The standout is Timberlake’s breakup mope “Better Not Together,” in which he goes into bummed-out, velvet-voiced soul man mode, but Ciara’s aerobics-class-worthy “Turntables” is pretty bouncy and fun as well. A selection of tracks after the jump. MORE »

Maura: I'm not too fond of the Timberlake track, but I fell in love with "Until Yesterday" via your Tumblr post, so thanks for that!

This Week’s Top 12: A Week In Which We Ignored Dr. Love’s Prescriptive Advice

Gene Simmons getting territorial, alternate theories of the alternative era, Assteroidz, and the British band that’s probably more excited about Superchunk’s inclusion on the Coachella bill than anything else, after the jump. MORE »

Off-topic...(but this is the "Idolator Up All Weekend" post, no???)

Am I the only one who thinks that new Eminem/Dre/50tty joint is really lame???

This Week’s Top 12: Remixed Gallaghers, R & B Royalty, And (Surprise!) Ida Maria

Welcome to the inaugural version of The Idolator Dozen, our new weekly countdown of notable-slash-positive happenings in the music world as decided by me. To answer your questions: “Why?”; “Ranking things is fun, duh.” “Why 12?”; “Because I like the number, and always have.” “What’s on the list?”; “Whatever I say, plus maybe a few things that I neglected to get to during the week.” “Why now?”; “Why not now?” “When will then be now?”; “Soon.” The top 12 after the jump! #11 was probably my favorite. And I like Suede, but I mainly think of them as "That band that sang the song I want played at my funeral*, and also the one that Justine Frischmann was in for a minute before she moved on to the best band ever."

Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Ciara, Chris Brown, And Pretty Much Every Other R & B Star Out There Mix It Up

Just crossing the transom this morning: Big Mike and DJ Neptune’s new mixtape R & B Kings 2009, which apparently came out last week and bubbled its way to various pop-leak blogs today. It has new tracks by—count ‘em—Chris Brown and Rihanna and Justin Timberlake and Usher. (Also 50 Cent, but he sucks.) A rundown of the best brand-new tracks (with probably-not-long-for-this-world YouTube links) after the jump! MORE »

@olskoool: Why is Bobby Valentino perpetually underrated and underappreciated?

And when it comes to real R&B, don't forget Keyshia Cole! She's KILLING it on the road right now, stealing the "I Am Music" tour from T-Pain and Lil Wayne. Plus her reality show is beyond addicting.

YouTube Hits The “Mute” Button

If you press play on the above video and are confused by its lack of audio, don’t be confused: The clip has had its audio—which was originally a mish-mash of versions of “Walk” by Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, and Disturbed—stripped by the video-sharing site YouTube. The muted clip is now captioned by the below advisory on the site: MORE »

Oh God. The brave new world is stomping all over humanity. Grrrrr

Which Fourth-Quarter Release Are You Most Looking Forward To?

I know, I know, some people want us to break the tyranny of release dates, but the ever-increasing evidence that the final three months are going to be a last gasp of sorts for the big, blockbuster album is just too good to resist this afternoon. And given that Q4 ‘08 has just begun, and there are many records on the docket for the coming weeks, I figured I’d ask: What not-yet-released album (or albums) are you most excited to play the crap out of over the next couple of months? Sure, it’s a tough question, and leak culture has made the whole idea of anticipating a certain album on a certain day much harder, but I’m still interested in seeing what you all want to hear. To help you out, I’ve listed some of the releases from the forthcoming weeks after the jump. (Note No. 1: It’s a very partial list, so don’t get mad if your most anticipated album isn’t on there. Note No. 2: Yes, I know that pretty much everything that’s coming out in the next week and a half has leaked, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t be excited. I mean, what happened to joy, man?) wow, 2008 was a terrible year. and just more crap finishing it out.

“Vibe” Gives Us Something To Talk About

Once again, we present Rock-Critically Correct, a feature in which the most recent issues of Rolling Stone, Blender, Vibe, and Spin are given a once-over by a writer who’s contributed to many of those magazines, as well as a few others! In this installment, he looks at the new issue of Vibe: MORE »

Um seriously? I would put $$ on the fact Thicke wasn't on the cover because he is **not big enough to effectively sell a magazine**. This is not 1998, and VIBE is not the Source! Your take on it is archaic.

Make No Mistake: Ciara Was Naked As Naked Can Be On “Vibe” Cover

In an effort to stave off mean Internet rumors, Vibe editor Danyel Smith took to the airwaves on Friday, insisting to anyone within earshot of New York City’s KISS-FM that, contrary to all that chatter, Ciara was definitely not wearing any clothes when she was photographed for the magazine’s current cover. And that the atmosphere was one that was all love, all the time! MORE »

Uhhh, does this cover have to be so huge on this site? It's making work surfing borderline pornographic.

Is Ciara Mad That “Vibe” Opened Her Up To A Lot Of “Goodies”-Related Puns?

Like the Timex Social Club, I spend a lot of time lamenting the rumors that surround me every day. How do they get started? And where do they get crazy? In Truthmongerer, I’ll try to suss out the kernels of truth in the rumors that are taking up airspace in gossip columns, blogs, and our tips inbox.

THE RUMOR: Ciara is contemplating a lawsuit against Vibe, saying that her nude pics in the mag–including the one on the cover–were the result of Photoshop trickery, and not her posing while wearing nothing but a pair of super-ugly shoes.

TRUTH THRESHOLD: 4%. MORE »

Did you hear the one Tina? Some say she's just a tease.
