Joe Satriani May Give The Grammy Red Carpet A Little Something Extra This Sunday
Joe Satriani’s copyright-infringement lawsuit against Coldplay—who, the guitarist claims, ripped off his song “If I Could Fly” on the Grammy-nominated title track from their Grammy-nominated album Viva La Vida—is still supposed to proceed, but there’s been one problem: The process servers who are supposed to serve Coldplay with the j’accuse outlining the terms of the lawsuit haven’t been able to catch up with Chris Martin and his merry men just yet. So what’s a lawyer to do? How about unleashing those process servers on a splashy red-carpet event that his client’s target is sure to be at, thanks to said target maybe picking up a boatload of awards that evening? MORE »

Madonna Hoping That The Wondertwin Power Of Britney And Justin Will Help Her Sell Out Dodger Stadium
Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet Tour hits Dodger Stadium tonight, but despite earlier claims that the show would fill up every seat in Chavez Ravine by the time the concert rolled around, there are still tickets available as of this moment. (And it’s not just the cheap seats–a Ticketmaster spot-check revealed that $165 seats were, in fact, very much for sale.) So in a last-ditch effort to get butts into chairs, Madonna will announce this morning that both Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake will appear at her show, in some effort to I guess complete the circle of life that she started when she made out onstage with Brit Brit at the 2003 Video Music Awards. Roger Friedman Is Off The Madonna Train
Last week, Fox gossip and avowed Warner Music Group enemy Roger Friedman was pooh-poohing rumors of an affair between Madonna and existentially troubled Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, saying that the whole thing was just a publicity stunt dreamed up by their shared manager Guy Oseary. But now that Madonna’s been named in the divorce papers served to A-Rod by his wife Cynthia, Friedman has picked up his poison pen and written a bizarre item about the “affair of the heart” between the two maybe being the culprit behind A-Rod’s groin injury in April, which landed him on the DL but apparently didn’t stop him from attending Madge’s Roseland show. Friedman’s so peeved, in fact, that he’s even backtracking on his claims that tickets to Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour are selling like hotcakes! MORE »

Shakira And Live Nation May Enter A Hair-Raising Partnership Very Soon
Last week, Fox 411’s Roger Friedman hinted that his pals at Live Nation were on the verge of signing hip-wiggling singer Shakira to one of their all-inclusive, big-money 360 deals, despite Michael Cohl, the executive who was pushing for those deals, leaving the company after a dispute over their benefits for the bottom line. Today, Friedman’s corporate bedfellows at the New York Post back up his claim, saying that Shakira and the megapromoter are in the process of wrapping up a $70 million pact that encompasses recording, touring, and merchandise, and that will, the company apparently hopes, make Shakira Live Nation’s official Latin artist representative. Roger Friedman’s Hostile Relationship With Facts Continues
Fox 411 columnist and amateur American Idol conspiracy theorist Roger Friedman has a new maligned music-industry heavy that he wants to prop up: The megapromoter Live Nation, whose feelings apparently got hurt by yesterday’s New York Post item on Madonna’s somewhat-soft ticket sales. In his latest column, he accuses one “Warner M. Group” of planting stories to make Madge–and, by extension, Live Nation, which signed her to an expensive deal last autumn–look bad! But while he’s defending his friends, he goes way beyond the bounds of his usually slippery relationship with reality. MORE »

Coldplay Is Having A Decidedly Mixed Week
Sure, their single may be No. 1 on the digital charts and they might be planning to work with Anton Corbijn on its video, but Coldplay’s label-saving album leaking last week and the president of said label being shown the door have to weigh on Chris Martin and his bandmates. And now comes the news that the band’s tour has been delayed by at least two weeks, thanks to “production delays which mean the show simply won’t be ready” by its original June 29 kickoff date. (Perhaps the paint on the 50-foot reproduction of Viva La Vida’s cover art is taking a really long time to dry?) The free shows in London, Barcelona, and New York are still happening on their originally scheduled dates, but once again, the people of Philadelphia will get the shaft, as their tour-opening show has been pushed back until late July. The new itinerary, after the jump. MORE »

Turns Out Roger Friedman Was At Least Half Right
As we mentioned earlier today, the executive offices at Capitol were rumored to be a lot quieter with the departures of President Lee Trink and CEO Jason Flom. Flom is (as of this moment) still employed, but Trink announced his resignation today. MORE »
