Today In ‘Idol’: Actually, No, Simon Cowell Doesn’t Own ‘Hallelujah’
Thu May 20 2010 by Idolator Staff
:: Idol conspiracy theorists, heel — Simon Cowell does not own any rights to "Hallelujah". Though between Lee Dewyze's and Alexandra Burke's performances, we can understand why you'd wonder. [EW Popwatch]
:: British singer-songwriter Will Young, who sings the Season 9 exit song "Leave Right Now", will perform it live on Tuesday's show, and then again at an Instinct party. [Instinct]
:: You might guess that more and more people are tuning into Idol the closer we get to the finale — but you'd be wrong. Ratings for last night's results show slipped 10 percent from the week-earlier show. Could it be because the entire world already knew Casey would be sent packing [MJs Big Blog]
:: Our recent guest and former Top 7 Idol finalist Anoop Desai stopped by Fox to talk about his excellent new album, All Is Fair. Have you heard it? [MyFoxNY]

Alexandra Burke And Pitbull Party “All Night Long” In Their New Video
Wed Apr 28 2010 by Robbie Daw
Nearly two months after first hearing Alexandra Burke's reworked "All Night Long" (which now features a Pitbull rap in the mix), along comes the music video. It's an affair that's not too dissimilar from Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" video—think glitter, drunken revelry and splashing around in a swimming pool during a house party. And, hey—here's hoping "All Night Long" garners over 108 million views just like "Just Dance" did. Watch after the jump.

Alexandra Burke Teams Up With Pitbull As She Eyes The U.S. Market
Mon Mar 8 2010 by Robbie Daw
To date, British singer Alexandra Burke has visited the top of the UK chart three times—with her 2008 X Factor coronation song, "Hallelujah," her fall 2009 hit "Bad Boys" and as part of the Helping Haiti "Everybody Hurts" charity single. (That photo is of Alexandra recording her vocals for the latter.) But with her sights now set on the American market, Burke is retooling some of her previous songs by slapping rappers on them.
Case in point: "All Night Long," a track from the singer's UK album Overcome, has now been worked over and features Pitbull in the mix. Hear it below! More »

Watch Susan Boyle And Leona Lewis In The Helping Haiti “Everybody Hurts” Video
Mon Feb 8 2010 by Robbie Daw
The Helping Haiti video for "Everybody Hurts" is pretty much standard charity single fare—clips of the stars singing interspersed with (often graphic) footage of victims of the disastrous earthquake that rocked Haiti last month.
Simon Cowell organized the project, and wrangled in the likes of Susan Boyle, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Kylie Minogue, Take That, Bon Jovi, Leona Lewis, Robbie Williams, JLS, James Blunt, Joe McElderry and Alexandra Burke to sing on the R.E.M. cover. The song was made available on UK iTunes Sunday, and shot to #1 there by the afternoon.
Catch the video after the jump. (Again, some of the images are graphic.) More »

Hear The All Star Helping Haiti Version Of “Everybody Hurts”
Tue Feb 2 2010 by Robbie Daw
BBC 1 Radio premiered the Simon Cowell-organized all star cover version of "Everybody Hurts"—billed as Helping Haiti—this morning. Among the singers who lent vocals to the track are Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Miley Cyrus, Susan Boyle, Take That, Rod Stewart, Mika, Bon Jovi, James Blunt and Cheryl Cole, as well as X Factor alums Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Joe McElderry and JLS.
The track itself, produced by Steve Robson, stays pretty faithful to R.E.M.'s original 1992 version. And, of course, the inner Anglophile in us is reveling in the fact that this marks the first time all five original members of Take That have appeared on a song together since Robbie Williams split from the seminal Brit boy band in 1995. (Though only Gary Barlow and Robbie appear to have prominent lines here.)

Alexandra Burke Is A Good Sport
Fri Dec 11 2009 by Robbie Daw
What’s a surefire way to break a U.K. artist in the States? Toss ‘em in a stadium and let them gyrate around in sexy football gear. (American football, that is.)
Alexandra Burke won Simon Cowell’s hit Brit series The X Factor last year, and apparently the music mogul is just as bent on having her cross over in the U.S. as he was with Leona Lewis. (She’s been signed here by Epic.)
Burke’s previous single “Bad Boys” featured Miami-born rapper Flo Rida, and the video for her latest has her twirling around with some buxom dancers in a visual homage to America’s favorite pastime.
Catch the video for Alexandra Burke’s RedOne-produced dance jam “Broken Heels” below the jump. More »
