‘Idol’ Guest Blog: Anoop Desai Has The Top 6 On His Mind

Wed Apr 28 2010 by Idolator Staff
Soulful and savvy, Anoop Desai emerged from a University of North Carolina acapella group to become one of the standout competitors on American Idol's Season 8. With smoky vocals that fit neatly with his longstanding love for 90s R&B, Anoop charmed Idol fans and overcame numerous obstacles along the way to finishing in last season's Top 7. He's now on the verge of releasing his debut EP, All Is Fair, which you should sample for free at his official site. It drops May 4 — that's Tuesday!

One of Anoop's best moments on Idol came during last year's Grand Ole Opry/country week (when even beloved Idol runner-up Adam Lambert stumbled a bit). Anoop rocked Willie Nelson's "Always On My Mind" — so who better to review this year's version of country week, which featured the music of Shania Twain? Anoop has a clear-eyed view when it comes to the contestants' emotions and Crystal's prospects for winning it all. Check it below: More »

Listen To Anoop Desai’s Bollywood-Pop Dance Track “My Name”

Tue Mar 23 2010 by Becky Bain
Many of American Idol's Season 8 contestants have easily found their niche audience after leaving the show—Adam Lambert with the pop extremists, Kris Allen with the rock-lite crowd, and Allison Iraheta with grrl rock fans. And after listening to 6th place finisher Anoop Desai's Bollywood-inspired club jam "My Name," we think there's plenty of room for Anoop to snag his own spot on the pop and R&B charts. Listen to his debut single below. More »

American Idol smoothie Anoop Desai’s favorite song of right now is “Boyfriend #2,” the new single by former Pretty Ricky member Pleasure “Marcus Cooper” P. It’s a decent slice of salacious “I’m better than your man” R & B, but I really hope that the Tweet announcing this love isn’t a sign that Anoop is going to enter Pleasure’s ex-bandmate’s grinding contest. Anoop Desai: In Memoriam

Thu Apr 23 2009 by Maura

Last night’s American Idol saw the exits of two contestants, as well as a bunch of weird stuff that made me wonder if Paula Abdul had secretly added producing the show to her choreography duties. There was a little bit of old (the disco medley that trotted out a bunch of disco-era stars, who were definitely not lipsyncing), a little bit of new (Lykke Li’s “I’m Good, I’m Gone” soundtracking the Ford ad), and a ghost of last year’s Idol (David Archuleta, who was forced to fill a minute with an awkward pep talk about Idol-derived “opportunities” for this week’s elimination candidates). Lil Rounds, as expected, went home, and was informed that she would be doing so in an elimination sequence that was as awkward as it was short. And then there was Anoop Desai, who had an off performance this week but who really deserved better from the judges during the course of the competition. More »

“Idol” Working Overtime: Eight-Word Reactions To The Top Eight

Wed Apr 8 2009 by Maura

Last night’s American Idol ran so far overtime, thanks to more silly playfighting between the judges during their critiques and the producers inexplicably deciding that the viewing public needed to see lots of video of Matt Giraud portraying an angel when he was a kid. So in honor of the judges’ inability to keep it short, I’m limiting my judgments of this week’s performances to eight words. The rundown after the jump!
