Sorry About Your Useless Files, Says Yahoo

Remember when it seemed like former Yahoo! Music customers were going to have to repurchase any music they purchased from the now-defunct company and wanted to transfer to another machine? The company intends to make things right, although in a manner yet to be determined. A Yahoo! Music spokesperson told InformationWeek that customers would be "compensated for whatever you paid for the music... We haven't said exactly what we will do, but we will take care of our customers." I suppose that's comforting in some sense, although that promise is so vague, it could mean that Yahoo! is readying a stockpile of warm milk and blankies. Later in that same article, InformationWeek, through no fault of their own, relayed this gem: "Yahoo's experience with shutting down its music store highlights the problem DRM technology can have on consumers." You don't say. [InformationWeek]

R. Kelly attorney Sam Adam Jr. has publicly apologized to Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana for dragging her name into the Gary Coleman and X-rated-snowman-filled closing arguments of his client's trial last week. "This wasn't a gardener or the man down the street or a janitor," Adam's argument went. "This was a 13-year-old girl having sex with a superstar, and she doesn't tell anyone? She doesn't let it slip to her best friend? Never? Not anyone? You can't keep a 13-year-old's mouth closed over Hannah Montana tickets, but this?" Classy! Adam has since taken to MTV to tell Miley/Hannah "sorry," saying that he didn't mean to drag her into the worst of both worlds and that he only brought her into his spiel because she's "the biggest thing out—no offense, Robert." (Yes, he really did append that apology. Talk about digging a hole!) [MTV via The Kelly Chronicles]

Weiland Already Delaying Gigs, Apologizing For Himself On STP Tour?

Coming out an hour late, forgetting lyrics, slurring apologetic introductions that get cut off by visibly annoyed band members—sounds like Weiland is back and better than ever! When Slash wakes up in a couple of hours and grabs The New York Times before enjoying his bagel (but after putting on on slippers, a bath towel, and a snake), the description of Stone Temple Pilots' New York show will undoubtedly inspire a smirk. The 29 Seconds That Are Supposed To Make Everyone Feel Better About "American Idol"

For those of you who are curious, the "rumors" Ryan is obliquely referring to as being untrue aren't about Paula being into field hockey players. Nor are they about Paula using the rehearsals to guide her later critiques, since she admitted that she does engage in that practice yesterday: More »

"LA Times" Finally Retracts Latest "Diddy Knew!" Tupac Expose

The Los Angeles Times has retracted its controversial March 17 story "An Attack on Tupac Shakur Launched a Hip-Hop War," which claimed that Sean "Diddy" Combs was aware that Shakur would be attacked in late November 1994, and that the attack was orchestrated by associates of the Bad Boy CEO. The paper acknowledged that it had been hoaxed by its "confidential sources" immediately following a March 27 debunking of the story on The Smoking Gun, but only today did it announce a full retraction of the original article, written by longtime Diddy conspiracy theorist Chuck Phillips. That cryptic "sorry, guys" to the city of St. Louis that Sammy Hagar posted on his blog today? It's because he complained about crap-beer titan Anheuser-Busch turning down his offer to produce a Cabo Wabo-branded brew while on stage in St. Louis the other night. And then he said, "It's Miller Time." A public apology for that? What's next, him apologizing to officers for speeding? [A To Z]

apologies to the half-dozen talented village voice media employees

The (Unannounced) "Worst Village Voice Media Music Writer" Contest Has A Frontrunner

You (hopefully) have better things to do with your day than read the bold and edgy blogs the New Media folks at New TimesVVM have slapped all over their newsweeklies' sites. Of course, when you're gathering material for your day at a music blog, you comb even the least likely corners of the Internet for content. Of course, any Internet that would allow someone like me to pontificate on the music world ten times in a day is inherently dubious, but we stumbled upon a blogger in the VVM chain who is managing to bring shame to the industry itself. Master P: "I Hope The 13-Year-Olds Of The World Can Forgive Me"

As part of his ongoing public self-flagellation for making zillions upon zillions of dollars corrupting ear, eye, and blingholes of America's best and brightest, Master P took a trip to a North Carolina middle school to personally apologize to the kids for his lyrical misdeeds: More »

Kelly: "I'm Well Aware That Clive Is One Of The Great Record Men Of All Time"

Kelly Clarkson has updated her Web site with a Precious Momenty picture and a "mea culpa" surrounding the "there's no hit on My December" controversy between her and label mogul Clive Davis, which basically dictated most of the press coverage surrounding her new album. How can you tell this is step one in Kelly walking, head down and hands folded, down the long road to Davis' good graces? Kelly's enterprising Web team named the new image on her site clive_splash.jpg. Ouch! The full statement after the jump. More »

Apparently, Touring Really Cuts Into Akon's Apologizing Time

Akon has posted a song apologizing for most of his recent transgressions—at least all of those that predate that fan-tossing incident—to his MySpace page. Called "Sorry Blame Me," the track addresses a few people Akon has wronged, including, apparently, his mom; the last verse of the song addresses the whole fan-humping incident from a few months back, and Akon explains his silence with the following lyrics: More »
