If You Want A Piece Of Lou Pearlman, You Can Find One On eBay

Pervy boy-band impresario Lou Pearlman, whose trial on federal bank fraud charges is set for April, has told friends that he's thinking about copping a plea on those charges that would result in him going to the federal pen for up to 25 years. But that doesn't mean he'll be free from jail after that; charges related to the huge investment scheme that he ran through his company Trans Continental Airlines have yet to be filed, and that'll probably add to his sentence if he's found guilty. What's more interesting: The "friend" who told the St. Petersburg Times this little bit of news is now reselling Pearlman's possessions—which he bought at Pearlman's two bankruptcy auctions—on eBay, under the username a-v sales. Among the items on offer are an actual MTV Moonman (bidding currently at $560); other highlights—including an award bestowed upon Pearlman by Mikhail Gorbachev—after the jump. More »

Jingle Ball 2007: BJs For The JBs

Our headline was actually one out of the several hundred text messages that scrolled across a video ticker high above the stage at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, when a sold-out crowd of tweens and teens (and Idolator) took in the pop chart mish-mash of New York radio station Z100's annual Jingle Ball, and the junior high horndogs who sent in that text weren't talking about James Brown's sidemen, but the Jonas Brothers, the pre-fab pop-punk puppy dogs fresh off a leg of the Hannah Montana tour. All night, the mere mention of the Brothers' names prompted screams so loud you'd think the arena had spontaneously popped a collective cherry, and for four hours, hundreds of exclamation point-riddled messages pledged love to one Brother or another, though usually more along the lines of a chaste hug than fellatio. And taken against the rest of the evening's performances, America's squealing affection towards Disney's latest attempt to bail out the industry (for at least another 12 months) wasn't necessarily misplaced.

Which Z100 Star Will Put On The Most Painful Performance At Tonight's Jingle Ball?

Tonight, Maura and I will be at Madison Square Garden for New York pop station Z100's annual Jingle Ball, taking in the cream of Billboard's crop: Fall Out Boy! Alicia Keys! Avril Lavigne! The Jonas Brothers! Jordin Sparks! Colbie Caillat! Backstreet Boys! Boys Like Girls! Timbaland! With OneRepublic! And Keri Hilson! Is pop music really dead? Probably, but we'll find out for sure tonight. As a friend put it, it's going to be awfsome! But which iTunes bestseller is going to put on the most awfsome performance tonight? For the answer to that, we turn to the crystal ball of our handy poll software. More »

The Backstreet Boys Refuse To Divulge Whether Or Not Lou Pearlman Got A Little Too Touchy-Feely

Pervy, Ponzi-scheming boy band svengali Lou Pearlman had enough to worry about with that pesky trial for fraud before Vanity Fair implicated him as "a habitual sexual predator — harassing, abusing or worse — the teenage boys in his charge." One of the most well-known among Pearlman's alleged victims was the Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter, and in an interview with MTV, Carter and the BSB's freely admit that Pearlman is a giant knob when it comes to managing bands, while continuing to dance arond the most serious allegations leveled at him. Backstreet's Back...On The Underground Tip?

This Reuters profile of the soon-to-be-back Backstreet Boys is mostly just a recap for fans who've followed the Boys' personal travails since they fell out of the spotlight. And yet hidden at the very end was a quote from Nick Carter that initially struck me as really sad. But then it got me thinking: Could Carter be savvier than any blog svengali out there? More »

Boy-Band Svengali Even Sleazier Than Previously Thought

The upcoming issue of Vanity Fair will take a look at the predilections of disgraced boy-band maestro Lou Pearlman—currently cooling his jets in a Florida jail while awaiting a trial on bank fraud charges—and you may be shocked to hear that his interests in young men went beyond their abilities to sing, dance, and make the little girls cry. In addition to allegations that he was "definitely inappropriate" with the Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter and a description of his clumsy pickup techniques (one person recalls him spreading his legs while wearing a white terrycloth robe and matching underwear, then uttering the not-quite-Mae-Westian come-on "You're a smart boy. Figure it out."), ex-members of lesser boy-band lights recall events that echo the very special Gordon Jump episode of Diff'rent Strokes: More »

Backstreet Boys Can Console Themselves With Knowledge That Their Song Hasn't Leaked ... Yet

It's 3:16 p.m. ET, and the new single from the newly Kevin Richardson-free Backstreet Boys, "Inconsolable," is set to debut on the radio in New York City in approximately two hours and 45 minutes. Aside from the OMG obvious, here's why that's notable: Our Googling for an MP3 of the the track (because I know I'm going to forget to put on the radio at 6) has only come up with a few low-quality clips—there's not a even full version of the song out there yet, high quality or no. So did the Backstreet Boys' people figure out a way to get the song to Z100 involving locks, keys, and a Brinks armored car? Or is the lack of leakage a sign that maybe the members of the Backstreet Boys will want to call up VH1 and pitch a second season of Mission: Man Band sometime soon? More »

Since moving-related dementia has led me to listen to nothing but a fucked-up cocktail of Wowee Zowee and Millennium for the last three days, I was overjoyed to see that the Backstreet Boys are prepping a new CD. I was slightly less-joyed to see that the first single is a "piano-heavy rock ballad." Have the Boys learned nothing from the Max Martin-spurning Ms. Clarkson? [Billboard]
