And while there are still plenty of hilarious overreactions, we're also starting to see something like informed, reasoned commentary on the bust. Plus a lot of sighing and wondering whither next:

The Sensible

• "Oink didn't offer solutions; it highlighted the problems of over-priced, over-controlled music elsewhere. Oink was an online paradise for music fans. The only people who could truly be mad at it were the ones directly profiting from the sale of digital or physical music. (Like myself! F%5k!)" [Mudd Up!]

The Slightly More Dramatic

• "I have very firm stand about the insistence of the music industry to desperately implement copyright issues in a world that has already changed. The music industry should change its old, and obviously outdated practice and begin to change with the times. Oink, you will be forever remembered." [Have Laptop Will Travel]

The Oh-Come-On-Already

• "Don't get me wrong for the title of this post, I don't think that OiNK's administrator is a pirate, but I definitely believe that the IFPI is worse than those bastards that charge for the distribution of copyrighted material. They've managed to hijack OiNK's website, to put on their propaganda, and all of this without ANY real legal base. Is this an ethic behavior?" [Leo Lambertini from a post entitled "IFPI Is Worse Than Pirates" and just slightly worse than copyright holders apparenty]

• "I woke up to find some very bad news today. Oink.cd, arguably one of the most loved and most comprehensive music tracker on earth was shut down by the Establishment just a few hours ago. October 23, 2007 will now live in infamy as the day when the haven for people who actually have good music tastes was effectively closed. This leaves thousands of music aficionados homeless." [Indie Music Chatter]

• "1. A cute avatar is a must. In the spirit of the old site, It'd be really sweet if everyone could keep the cute avatars up." [OiNK's Pink Palace Memorial Forum where you must now sadly register to get to the really weepy posts]

• "I will miss OiNK a lot and i wish 'OiNK' (the person) whatever his real name is the the best of luck in defending himself against the bunch of lies they will change him with!
"First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win" Mahatma Gandhi [Releaselog]

(It's the Gandhi quote that really puts it over the top.)

The Internet Squeals Like A Pig As OiNK Turns Into Bacon Reactions to the shutdown of BitTerrorist haven OiNK have come in swiftly from around the blogosphere, and they're exhibitng the restraint and candor the Internet is known for:

• "Sorry if this has already been posted, but I'm following the San Diego fires right now, and this is just another devastation right on top of it." [Oh No They Didn't]
• "Now that OiNK is gone, where shall we get our pre-release fix? Where can we so easily unearth new bands to hype?" [I Guess I'm Floating]

• "In fact, as we often mentioned, if you were an international law enforcement agency or a record company spook seeking to create the world's greatest filesharing entrapment scheme, you probably couldn't have done much better than Oink. Let the conspiracy theories begin." [On The Download]
• "Now, 180,000 users won't be able to spread those great new bands to their friends, and people will stop buying CDs and the record industry will die just like it was going to all along. Thanks a lot, you fucking pigs." [Sam @ BrooklynVegan]

Thankfully, there are some people out there who are optimistic:

• "Can't be long before the code for running your own OiNK pops up somewhere, right? We can have an informal meetup/support group somewhere. Just pick a bar in the comments and we'll plan." [Stereogum]
• "RIP until the next one comes around. There will always be another one." [MetaFilter]

Surely this is going to get even more entertaining as the day goes on, right? I might have to do another post on this later, although it'll be hard to beat that San Diego fire comment.

CMJ: We Keep Missing Life-Changing Performances, Free Food, Pregnant Chicks - At least we got to download some Simian Mobile Disco songs to make up for the fact that we keep missing them. [Disco Nap]
- Here are some songs by New York hippies Yeasayer, the other band we missed yesterday and a group whose "avant garde qualities did not diminish their accessibility," which means those funny keyboard noises thankfully don't add or subtract too much from the kids' enjoyment of their indie rocking. [UberDrivel]

- Finally, the secret appeal of Black Kids revealed: it's a pregancy fetish thing. [musicmattersman]

CMJ: We Missed All The Big Shows! Especially Vampire Weekend! - If we had bothered to fight our way into Vampire Weekend's show at the Cake Shop yesterday we could have met MTV's John Norris! Maybe Nina Blackwood is outside at their Other Music performance right now! [MTV]
- Not only that, but Vampire Weekend is "the stage right now where everyone who follows music knows who they are, but then mainstream media picks-up on them and ruin it for the rest of it." Dude, the first place we read about them was the goddamn Times. [Music Snobbery]
- Everybody has seen Vampire Weekend twice and loves them even more the second time around! [17dots]
- Sometimes people love Vampire Weekend so much that they write about them in very solemn terms, like how their songs are "are terse clockwork constructions that equate cooperation with mutual avoidance." [New York Times]
- But Vampire Weekend wasn't the only thing we flubbed. We also missed White Williams last night, despite already being at the venue! And after this not-at-all-ridiculous description from the Village Voice—"Like Blondie's (correction: Debbie Harry's) 'Rush Rush' with the bass dialed, or the Strokes with rhythm, or post-punk if post-punk never happened"—we feel really bad about having taken that extended smoke break! Blogsmacked: Mixing Up Reactions To The Mixtape Crackdown

- Jay Smooth's videoblog calls out the boneheaded reporters at Atlanta's Fox affiliate, redefines the word "snitch." [hiphopmusic.com]
- "The fact that record labels CAN NOT break music without mixtape deejays is a problem for some in power. The fact that A list artists are dealing directly with popular mixtape deejays is a problem for those in power. With the advent of new technology, the DJ in 2007 has all but perched to move to higher levels and seriously change the game." [Davey D's Hip Hop Blog]

More reactions after the jump.

- "This raid is the first time the RIAA has gone directly after a big-name mixtape DJ, and they've gone after probably the single biggest name in that world. So maybe I'm just being naive here, but I don't think the raid represents a sea change in the music industry's tolerance of mixtapes, mostly because the music industry doesn't employ any evil masterminds smart enough to orchestrate a sweeping change in policy like that. More likely, it's just another example of the industry's staggering incompetence and disorganization, a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing." [Status Ain't Hood]
- "If you think all this shit is wrong, don't spend your time decrying the RIAA, or loudly proclaiming that music should be free when bands ask that you please not post the music they have made, or pretending that all your disclaimers and justifications make what you're doing legal. Pressure labels that support mixtapes and MP3blogs and mashups and all those sorts of mutually beneficial uses of copyrighted material to lobby to have the laws changed. You have a relationship with labels? Great. Write them an e-mail and tell them to support copyright reform. Tell them that the double standard they've supported lets them have it both ways while sending mixtape makers to prison." [Clap Clap Blog]
- "DJ Drama himself is signed to Atlantic Records, so its not like they weren't aware of what he was doing. Many artists even have "underground provisions" in their record contracts that explicitly allow them to work with third parties to put out promotional mixtapes. This isn't a case of an employee running off with company property and making a fast buck off of it on the black market, this is an employee being told by his company that part of his job is to go out and sell that property on the street corner. " [33 Jones]

My Chemical Romance celebrated the release of The Black Parade with a show at New York City's Webster Hall last night, and bloggers were there—although not all of them were 100% won over by the not-quite-full show:

Blogsmacked: Pitchfork Vs. Music Bloggers--It Is So On cwk.jpgPitchfork's Marc Hogan tweaked the noses of the blogosphere this morning when he gave Robbers and Cowards, by the elbo.ws-adored Cold War Kids, a 5.0. The pile-on continued on Pitchfork's homepage, where the review was teased by the taunt to your right. As one might expect, this sent people straight to their keyboards, with one irate reader going so far as to put up a fake Marc Hogan blog. (At least, we think it's fake.) While we investigate the man behind the Blogspot, you can sample the loud cries of "NOOOOOO!!" that went up in other corners of the music blogosphere.

Blogsmacked: Houston Police Shut Down Two Gallants Show

Reports have been trickling in from the Houston area about a Friday night show by Saddle Creek duo Two Gallants that was brought to a halt by police responding to a noise complaint. According to reports, in the confrontation that followed, two people were Tasered, including a 14-year-old boy; there are multiple videos of the evening on YouTube, and in a few, the Taser is clearly audible. A collection of reactions to the incident, and thoughts on its root causes, is below. (Thanks to My Old Kentucky Blog for the initial tip.)

Blogsmacked: Charting The Post-Show Lily Allen Buzz

British blogosphere sensation Lily Allen made her U.S. live debut last night, playing a short set at the Hiro Ballroom in New York City as a teaser for her debut album, which comes out on Capitol early next year. Naturally, all the NYC musicbloggers who actually leave the house were there, composing witty rejoinders in their head from the moment she hit the stage. We scoured Google Blogsearch this morning for reactions to the show; the verdict was decidedly mixed, although the word "expectations" kept popping up.

- "I'm not saying she's "the next Arcade Fire". I'm just saying that based on past bad experiences with similar artists, she exceeded expectations." [Brooklyn Vegan]
- "Don't get me wrong, I still love the songs. But the live show didn't bring me anywhere new." [Yeti Don't Dance]
- "The rest of us were politely waiting to see if the little songstress that could would measure up to her enormous hype-or at the very least, to see if she was as annoying as her blinking MySpace profile." [The Modern Age]
- "An unseasonably warm October day and a set of appropriately lowered expectations could have you thinking little Lil'd brought a bit of summer back with her." [Heart On A Stick]
- "The spirit would move her into wagging arms and booty-twirls for song intros, but those moves soon would be muted by the weight of her perception of our expectations." [Stereogum]
- "she wouldn't even have a career on this side of the pond without us, and so it was with great pleasure that her liveynessness master blastered our eggspectations." [Thighs Wide Shut]
- "The lesson of the day: Listen to Lily Allen in the comfort of your own home...skip her live act...it's almost, disappointing." [she's obsessed]
