festival overload is officially upon us

Even Nostalgia Couldn't Save The Download Festival

Seems the hodgepodge lineup presented at the Download Festival's Sunday stop in Los Angeles provided air-conditioned entertainment to only a few thousand people, even though it was filled with retro-ish acts that usually drive people to these things, like the Jesus and Mary Chain and Gang of Four. Will these somewhat inexpensive, multibrand-supported shows be permanently replaced with free shows promoting one brand exclusively? Even I might be convinced to sit through Yeasayer to hear my emo faves Brand New (above). [LA Times]

(Somewhat Cool) Old Guys Added To Download Festival

The lineup for the American versions of the Brit's Download Festival were a bit underwhelming. The Brits get KISS, Judas Priest, and Motorhead tonight, and the three dates stateside have Ghostland Observatory and Mute Math? This week, the San Francisco and Los Angeles dates were improved slightly with the addition of the Jesus and Mary Chain and Gang of Four (the Shrinkwrapped version), to go along with the totally underrated Brand New and a bunch of bloggo faves like Yeasayer. The LA date is even indoors. Tough break, Philly — you guys still have the Killers. [Download Festival]

What Kind Of Person Waits In The Freezing Cold For A Brand New Show?

Hell if we know, because our asses are staying warm by chain smoking blogging next to our radiators, but Idolator videographer Alex Goldberg found out when he discovered a clutch of fans parked outside a New York gig by the Long Island emo band hours before it was set to begin. Discussed: Brand New are totally not generic emo, and neither are their lyrics. In fact they might not be emo at all? They are almost as good as both Radiohead and Vanessa Carlton. Also Brand New is encouraging our children to skip school, which they might end up regretting when they realize Brand New is, like, totally generic emo.* More »

Idolator Imagines A Brand New Elephant 6

We were so inspired by Jesse Lacey of (yes) Brand New's new cover of (yes) Neutral Milk Hotel that we decided a full-on Elephant 6 covers album by your faaaavorite chart-topping artists was badly needed. A complete wish-list track-list (and an MP3 of Lacey's cover) after the jump. More »
