Tough Break, Kiddos: Kidzapalooza Los Angeles Is Off

Speaking of festivals and children, if you were planning on seeing Slash and Gary Oldman (?!) at Kidzapalooza in Los Angeles later this summer, make other plans. Artist scheduling conflicts are forcing a postponement of the West Coast festival until 2009, although it appears the Chicago version is still on. This is just like in 2004, when I had my hopes up to see Bumblebeez 81 at Lollapalooza and that ended up getting cancelled. Perry Farrell, you've hurt me before. Why must you take it out on my kids as well? [NME]

"Nashville Star" Will Not Let The Clique Girlz Get Shoved Down Its Throat

Yesterday, I wondered why Danity Kane, and not the previously advertised Pussycat Dolls, were the featured group of pop tartlets on Nashville Star's Very Special Country Goes Pop (To Widen Our Demographic) episode. Apparently my initial speculation about there being some sort of feud between Nicole Scherzinger and Jewel was slightly off—TMZ is claiming that any booking-related tussles were actually happening in corporate boardrooms, and the cause of conflict was none other than Idolator's favorite group of Jersey Shore preteens who are aged before their time, The Clique Girlz. During her Friday night show at Brooklyn's McCarren Pool, M.I.A. apparently announced that the performance would be her last bit of Kala promotion, effectively canceling her upcoming European tour and her appearance at Bonnaroo this weekend. Her MySpace page still lists all of those upcoming dates, although given that she hasn't approved any comments since the end of May perhaps whoever's in charge of that is a little behind. Anyone know what's up? [CRIMES AGAINST MUSIC]

"American Idol" Producers To David Archuleta: You'll Play For Your Hometown Fans When We Tell You To, Little Boy

Those scrooges at American Idol are thwarting runner-up David Archuleta's quest to give back to his hometown and to charity! Archie was slated to play a "thanks for voting for me" concert at the E Center in Salt Lake City this coming Friday, with proceeds from the show going to an unspecified charitable organization But the show's bigwigs put the kibosh on the show, perhaps because they were afraid that after last year's soft ticket sales for the annual Idol summer tour, effectively giving a whole market a reason to say "oh, I saw who I wanted to see already, so I'll spend my money on a gallon of gas instead" when given the option to pony up for a show was maybe not the best strategy for bringing in revenue. (But I thought Brooke White was a Mormon, too?) More »

Kanye West Does Not Care About North Dakota

Whether due to low ticket sales or Mr. West wanting a day off, the Fargo, N.D. date of the Glow In The Dark tour has been canceled. The date came between gigs in Chicago and Winnipeg, and it's not surprising that a sluggish response from North Dakotans would inspire Kanye to say, "Why was I going to play in North Dakota when I could spend another day in Chicago challenging celebrities to games of Connect Four! Man, I love Connect Four! I'm the greatest person on earth and I challenge people to games of Connect Four! Chess? What's that? I only obsess about games designed for seven-year-olds. Because I'm awesome." More »

Amy Winehouse will not be singing the theme to the next James Bond movie, Quantum Of Solace, because producer Mark Ronson is "not sure she's ready to work on music yet." Winehouse's spokesperson is disputing this claim, saying that the recording sessions fizzled because of "artistic differences." Whichever side is right, the Web producer who put together the linked article and its photo should get some sort of "Not Very Subtly Indicating Which Side Of The Argument He's On Through Photo Editing" award for today. Two music festivals slated for Farwell, Mich., this summer have been canceled "to restructure and reorganize debt, while continuing to look for new investors." The Mountain Country and Rock Music Festivals had an uneven slate of headliners—the rock fest was going to have the Yardbirds and Starship atop its bill, while the country concerts were to be headlined by bigger names like Miranda Lambert, Trace Adkins, and Dierks Bentley—which probably contributed to the chaos. Last year's country fest, which had Carrie Underwood leading the bill, attracted 12,000 people. [MLive.com]

Sly Stone's halting trip down the comeback trail has been derailed yet again, with the legendary soul singer canceling a Saturday performance in Chicago "for health reasons." [DeRogatis]

The Midi Music Festival, which was scheduled to take place in Beijing next week and had among its international headliners Mando Diao and Hardcore Superstar, has been postponed to at least the autumn—i.e., after the Beijing Olympics, when bad publicity stemming from things like crazy rock and roll festivals might be a little less international-reputation damaging—and may be canceled outright. But don't worry, ticket-holders: the organizers are now throwing a party on the festival grounds instead. [Guardian]

The Soul Train Music Awards, "which have largely been ignored by the African-American stars the event aims to honor," according to Reuters, are no longer. The 22nd installment of the awards show has been cancelled, two years after the syndicated show that spawned it was taken off the air. No official reason for the cancellation was given, but surely being relegated to 1 a.m. slots on MyNetworkTV affiliates and not even getting an updated Web presence didn't really help the ceremony's case. Axl Rose Will Not Be Visiting The Confessional Anytime Soon

Rumors that Axl Rose would be promoting/financing the release of Guns N' Roses' many-fortnights-in-the-works album Chinese Democracy via a reality show chronicling its final stages are 100% untrue, according to Rose's longtime associate Del James. In a terse statement on the band's official site, James said "Guns N' Roses will not be appearing on any reality TV program to promote their forthcoming album, Chinese Democracy, or for any other reason.... The reality TV rumors started a little while ago and have taken on an Internet life of their own, but there is no truth to any of this." I wonder if that also means that the source tipping off AllYourTV.com, the site that initially reported the rumors of the show, was also fibbing about Chinese Democracy being delivered to execs? Ah, Internet. Anyway, those of you who still want to get your GNRTV fill can enjoy a chunk of the 1989 MTV Rockumentary about the band—including William Bailey's famous "A-X-L, click" explanation of his nom de guerre—after the jump. Mya Just Can't Catch A Break "The secret talents of celebrities will remain hidden. CBS is axing its new reality show "Secret Talents of the Stars" after only one episode. The first airing Wednesday had former Star Trek actor George Takei singing 'On the Road Again.' Only 4.6 million people tuned in—and thousands tuned away as the hour continued. The reality show also had Clint Black doing standup comedy and Mya tap-dancing. " Eesh. Well, at the very least her "secret talent" should get her a second look from the people booking the next run of Dancing With The Stars. [AP]

Soulja Boy has said "YAHHH TRICK YAHHH" to his 21 & Under Tour—which also featured Lil Mama and Tiffany Evans—so the ringtone rapper can "work on his new album," or so his people claim. So, what do you think: Is "working on his album" code for "watching his YouTube hits add up so he can add a new freestyle to it the second his view-odometer rolls over to 500,000" or "avoiding future assassination attempts"? Van Halen Takes A Month Off So Eddie Can Continue Being "Tested"

Initially postponing four gigs last week, the reunited, DLR-powered Van Halen has now decided to put their Google-bait tour on hold until at least the April 19 show in Vegas; turns out the mysteriously illin' Eddie still needs a little more time under the watchful eye of a physician/team of physicians/witch doctor/barber with leeches. "According to organizers, Van Halen, who has battled cancer and substance abuse, 'is currently under doctors' care' and will 'continue medical tests to define a course of treatment," sez Billboard. "No further details were made available." Screwed attendees and Wolfgang fans should hang onto their tix until rescheduled dates are announced; 17 shows are currently on hold thanks to Eddie coming down with the vapors/boogie woogie flu/consumption, from tonight's Charlottesville gig through the band's Baltimore stop on April 15. Van Halen Shows Postponed Because Eddie Needs To Undergo "Comprehensive Medical Tests"

To cap off Van Halen's Lost Weekday Of Cancellation-Related Speculation, Live Nation has issued a statement saying that four shows, including the band's show tonight in Dallas, have been postponed because of an unspecified medical condition afflicting guitarist Eddie Van Halen. The statement goes on to say: "According to Eddie Van Halen's physician, he is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures." In addition to tonight's show being postponed until April 24, Wednesday's show in Cincinnati has been moved to April 22, Friday's show in Raleigh has been moved to April 13, and the band's March 9 show in Baltimore has been rescheduled to April 15. Van Halen concert promoter Live Nation is claiming that the band's show scheduled for the American Airlines Center in Dallas tonight will be tentatively made up on April 24, a few days after the tour is currently scheduled to end, and that no official reason for tonight's postponement has yet been given. Personally, I can't wait until we go through this whole rigamarole again on Wednesday, if only because refreshing the message boards has certainly livened up the day. [Fort Worth Star-Telegram]

Tonight's Van Halen Show: It's Off (But It May Be Rescheduled?)

From the slow-as-molasses site for the American Airlines Center, where tonight's Van Halen show was supposed to take place: "The Van Halen concert scheduled for tonight has been postponed. An official press release announcing the rescheduled date will be forthcoming as soon as possible." Ticketmaster's site is also saying that "tickets are not currently available online," but the site is still selling tickets for Wednesday night's VH show in Cincinnati, which will no doubt fuel even more speculation from the folks on the Van Halen fan boards. Update: Tonight's Van Halen Show Is Still On... For Now

Despite the tour-cancellation rumors that have run rampant since last night, tonight's Van Halen concert at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas is "still scheduled," according to the nice woman there who I just spoke to via phone. (And Ticketmaster is still selling tickets the the show, too—there were $149.50 seats available not 15 minutes ago.) She did note, however, that any changes to that plan would be announced via the venue's official site, which is, as you may not be surprised to hear, currently getting completely slammed with traffic to the point where it's nigh unusable. Between this and the Nine Inch Nails thing, productivity at cubicle-monkey jobs across America must be reaching quite the low point today. [Photo: AP]
