Cassie Is A Fast Sing-Talker

Cassie's new single, "Official Girl," eschews the icy minimalism that made "Me & U" such a success, and forces the poor thing to cram as many syllables as possible into each line she sings. It's a tactic that shows off just how reed-thin her voice is, a curious choice given that much ado has been made about her, shall we say, lack of vocal prowess in the past. Disappointing! At least the shot that makes it seem like Cassie's looking in a mirror when she's actually—surprise!—staring down Lil Wayne is a nice touch. [YouTube]

Cassie's Gonna Learn How To Fly (High)

The clip for Cassie's "Is It You?" quotes liberally from Step Up 2: The Streets, which features the singer playing one of the many aspiring stars enrolled in the Maryland School of the Arts. "Is It You?" is a pulsing not-quite-ballad that gives the singer's robotic on-record persona a bit more body (I suspect it'll sound even better in the context of an early evening out), but Cassie's performance in the clip has made me sure of one thing: If her Step Up 2 character plays an actress, the movie's versimilitude will take a big, big hit.
