This just in: The third solo album from Ash/Bat For Lashes guitarist Charlotte Hatherley, the outstanding New Worlds, is being released in the United States by the label Minty Fresh on Oct. 13—this coming Tuesday. Which is fantastic news, as I’d thought that the lack of buzz regarding a release date over here meant that it would fall into turnaround; New Worlds is a rich, twisty record that deserves to be heard by as many fans of smart guitar-rock as possible. Former Ash/current Bat For Lashes guitarist Charlotte Hatherley‘s third full-length, New Worlds, comes out in the UK next month, and it is such a great album, trading in the post-punk leanings of her previous (outstanding) effort The Deep Blue for something a little proggier. “Alexander,” which starts off as a delicate, finger-picked ballad before growing into a frenzied plea to a lover, is the new single from the album, and I hope the release of the track’s attendant video means that the record will see the light of day in the States sometime soon. The first taste of New Worlds, the third solo album from Bat For Lashes/Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley, has hit iTunes today, and to say that I recommend it would be an understatement. “White” is a low-end-heavy plea to a lover that represents something of a departure from the shimmering pop that characterized her previous album The Deep Blue, but it’s ultimately satisfying, particularly when the background “ooohs” swoop in on the song’s chorus. A video for the track, in which Hatherley shows off her ability to lip-sync in reverse while getting doused with brightly colored paints, after the jump.

—the former Ash guitarist who’s also the newest member of Bat For Lashes—has a U.S. label for her forthcoming album Cinnabar City, which will come out on Minty Fresh at an unspecified date this summer. The first single, “White,” represents something of a shift from her last album, the spiky The Deep Blue; it’s a moody rocker propelled by a thick guitar line that recalls the best moments of (swoon) Helium. (And it makes me pretty sure that the “Carrie” she’ll be emulating in the song’s clip is the pig’s-blood-drenched one, not the Manolo-wearing one. Whew.) MP3 after the jump.

Former Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley, whose 2007 album The Deep Blue was soaked in post-punk smarts and powerpop spunk, is releasing a new album, Cinnabar City, in the imminent future. According to the release, Cinnabar was recorded in a week, with Charlotte once again tackling all the guitars, and “flits between prog-pop, pop-punk and electro-junk”; in case you’re unfamiliar with her solo work, start with the shimmering “Behave” (above) and then go here to continue your schooling. Because she may be young, but No. 27 on our list proves she’s done her post-punk homework.

For weeks after Maura introduced me to former Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley’s second solo album The Deep Blue, I couldn’t figure why I was digging on her punchy new wave quite so hard, at least until a Google search revealed that Hatherley is as smitten with bookworm Brit-rockers XTC as I am. (Probably moreso, considering only one of us has gone so far as to collaborate with members of the band.) But while much of The Deep Blue floats its way through dreamy mid-tempo ballads, the galloping “Very Young” hews more towards the jittery, jerky end of the Swindon boys’ sound. That break around 1:50 where the rhythm suddenly shifts into an even faster and more fidgety quasi-disco beat is so young Andy Partridge, but Hatherley’s not totally beholden to the early ’80s (or abandoned her Ash roots), because when I first heard her zig-zagging guitar on the song’s intro all I could think was “Marnie Stern gone mall punk.”

What is it?: A lightning-flashy guitarist who added her six-string skills to Ash when she was 17, Hatherley released her first solo album, the powerpoppy Grey Will Fade, in 2004, while she was still a member of the band. In 2006, she went solo; a year later, she released The Deep Blue on her own label, Little Sister Records.
Where is it?: We’ve written about Hatherley a couple of times already; since then, we’ve become even more infatuated with her smart, spunky music, which sounds tailor-made for any budding guitar heroine who’s bothered by the gender imbalance in Guitar Hero. The albums’ import-only status, though, means that they’re both priced over $30 for Stateside customers. Surely there’s a label out there who wants to pick up the Little Sister catalog for release on this side of the pond?

A couple of weeks ago, we posted some MP3s from Charlotte Hatherley, the British singer who wields a mean guitar. A tipster passed along some MP3s from her forthcoming album, The Deep Blue, and they only furthered our recently sparked interest in her; “Again” is a grand, flourish-filled pop song, while “Very Young” is a crunchy rave-up.

Thanks to Fluxblog for tipping us off to the UK songstress Charlotte Hatherley; we picked up Grey Will Fade, which she released in 2004, and we were absolutely gobsmacked by her power-chord instincts–honestly, we were singing along from the second verse of “Paragon.” As a bonus, she’s got some serious guitar chops, and she’s completely willing to unleash some incredible guitar freak-outs (that’s her slicing and dicing in the background of “Summer”) in service of her songs’ sweet melodies.
