Coachella 2011 Round-Up: Day 3

Mon Apr 18 2011 by Becky Bain
After three days of roaming the desert at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, we're tired, we're sunburned, and mostly, we're overwhelmed with all the amazing music we saw performed live this weekend. It would be easy to say that Kanye West's powerhouse three-act set on the main stage Sunday night was the highlight of the whole weekend... which is good, because we're exhausted, and we don't want to do anything too trying. Check out all the highlights from Sunday's lineup, and yes, most of those highlights came during West's 140-minute stage spectacular. More »

Watch Kanye West’s Coachella Performance

Mon Apr 18 2011 by Robbie Daw
Kanye West closed out the 2011 Coachella fest on Sunday night by performing a three-act string of his biggest hits and fan favorites. At times minimal (if you can call a set featuring nearly two dozen dancers minimal), touching and powerful, West tore through songs like "Power," "Love Lockdown," "Say You Will," "Jesus Walks," "All Of The Lights" and "Gold Digger." Sadly, Rihanna, who was at the festival, did not join 'Ye on stage. Watch his full set after the jump. More »

Kanye West Has All That Power At Coachella

Sun Apr 17 2011 by Idolator Staff
When all of the lights were turned up at Coachella's main stage Sunday night for the festival's twisted, beautiful headline act, Kanye West himself was nowhere to be seen. Instead, fans were treated to a frenzied dance performance by a battery of "Runaway"-style dancers, who finally bowed down to a carved stone backdrop. West finally emerged, not from backstage, but atop a crane that stretched over the crowd as he proceeded to lead fans through a triumphant performance of "Power", "Dark Fantasy", "Hell Of A Life" and other jams from his acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (as well as his whole back catalog). More after the jump. More »

Lil B Cooks Up Controversy At Coachella (PHOTOS)

Sun Apr 17 2011 by Erika Brooks Adickman

Rapper Lil B made a big announcement during Day 2 of Coachella. During his set, the Innovative Artist nominee told the crowd, ”I’m gonna do the most controversial thing in hip hop. I’m gonna show you that words don’t mean sh*t. I’m gonna make an album called I’m Gay…Because gay means happy…I love women..but live life. We only have one life to live. Be happy.” Does this mean that the California native has publicly outed himself or is the viral video dancer simply attaching himself to a hot topic? You be the judge while you check out pics from the Based God’s set. Scissor Sisters Make Coachella Feel Like Dancin’ (PHOTOS)

Sun Apr 17 2011 by Erika Brooks Adickman

While they may have given us one of the worst album covers of 2010, the Scissor Sisters won for Most Fabulous during Day 2 of Coachella. Frontman Jake Shears was clearly the best dressed in the desert in his “Filthy/Gorgous” disco-ball hoodie, as the Glambert smoochin’ singer and his pop posse turned the Mohave tent into a night club. Take your mama and check out the Night Work band’s set. More »

Idolator is spending the weekend melting away in the desert sun in Indio, California at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival (read our recap of Day 1 here). Saturday's lineup was light on the pop, but we powered through the day's rising temps to get to the climax of our Saturday — getting our disco diva on during the Scissor Sisters' late-night set. Marina And The Diamonds Talks Katy Perry And Madonna At Coachella

Sat Apr 16 2011 by Becky Bain

Marina And The Diamonds (aka Marina Diamandis) had never performed at Coachella before her set last night in the Gobi tent (check out the photos here!), but the Welsh pop doll seemed to be enjoying her first jaunt to the desert music fest. "The site is a lot more beautiful than any U.K. site," she told us in brief chit-chat a few hours before taking the stage. "You can actually wear heels here!"

Not only was the Family Jewels singer wearing some fancy footwear to go with her supercute outfit, she also debuted a new hairstyle (styled at the hands of her drummer) while talking to us about Katy Perry, Madonna and why people should stop hating on Britney for not writing her own music. Catch our interview with this sparkling diamond below! More »

Marina And The Diamonds Gleams At Coachella (PHOTOS)

Sat Apr 16 2011 by Idolator Staff

Welsh pop firecracker Marina And The Diamonds brought her feverish, biting songs to day one of Coachella with a flirtatious twist, sporting oversize shades and a bow in her hair. (Wonder if that’s Katy Perry’s influence, or her own thing?) Marina had Coachella’s Gobi tent dancing in no time with her several jams from her full-length debut, Family Jewels. And while we always say you should question what pop stars tell you, we’d listen to Marina rather closely. See our exclusive photos below. More »

Hurts Spread Happiness Across Coachella (PHOTOS)

Sat Apr 16 2011 by Idolator Staff

Manchester’s Hurts swept into Coachella’s first day aiming to share a few of their epic pop melodies, and — despite the fact that they dressed for their mid-day desert set in tailored suits and ties — appeared perfectly comfortable. Indeed, they ended up making the crowd feel pretty wonderful. Singer Theo Hutchcraft and synth player Adam Anderson played a string of hits from their debut album, Happiness. Check our exclusive gallery of Kylie Minogue’s favorite duet partners below. More »

Miguel Proves He’s A Sure Thing At Coachella (PHOTOS)

Sat Apr 16 2011 by Idolator Staff

Miguel helped open the first day of Coachella 2011 with a typically cool set crackling with his signature electro-R&B grooves. But he also threw out a bold curve ball — no, not his cover of Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me”. Something even better suited to his style: he revved up a cover of Prince’s “Little Red Corvette”, though he switched up the lyrics to apply to last night (a Friday) instead of Saturday. A clever move, considering that Prince just kicked off his 21-show stand in nearby Los Angeles, and that the Purple One played Coachella’s main stage himself a few years back. Watch our Pray For Pop artist rock the house in this exclusive gallery. More »
