The Murder City Devils To Sweat It Out In The Desert

The Coachella tradition of adding acts after the initial lineup announcement continues this year (no accompanying list of cancellations… yet), although I suppose most people were hoping for something a little more thrilling than the Murder City Devils, who will play Sunday. I’m excited to see the band again (even if a sweaty tent mid-day isn’t exactly my preferred venue), since they had a run of albums around the turn of the century that were fun, edgy bursts of organ-fueled garage rock. If the Pacific Northwest is more your style, the band is, according to their Twitter feed, also playing Sasquatch. A selection of clips below the cut. MORE »

Your Personal Live-Music Itineraries: Are They Feeling The Pinch?

Sure, today saw quite a few highly anticipated concerts in the news. But Forbes.com is seeing through those lineup announcements and sellout crowds and forecasting nothing but gloom and doom, thanks to—what else?—recent global economic woes. Layaway plans for pricey festival tickets are just the beginning! MORE »

Wow?! Layaway for concert tickets?!

Yes, this is just the beginning from a fan/consumer side.

But what about the whole real estate side of things for the festivals?

With the whole Rothbury 2009 continuing to unfold, I wonder when more festivals will be running into the same issue.

@ owenmeany: I'm not even sure Ecstasy dealers will be making a profit at festivals this year. sorry dude :(

The Coachella Lineup Is Out (For Real This Time)

Paul McCartney, The Killers, and The Cure are atop the seemingly eternally delayed lineup (OK it was only like a week tops, but still) for the California festival Coachella, which takes place April 17-19. Also on the bill: Morrissey, Leonard Cohen, My Bloody Valentine, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, X, TV On The Radio, and Ida Maria. And Amy Winehouse, for real! Full roster, broken down by day, after the jump. The Coachella Lineup: The Answer To “Is It Out Yet?” Is Still “No-achella” At This Point

Coachella mastermind Paul Tollett says of the… MORE »

I'm beginning to get a very "New Apple Product" feel from the build-up to this year's little desert hoedown.

"Does it have Wi-Fi?"

"It could eventually."

"Will Bowie be Ziggy Stardust?"

"Not in the beta."

Just In Case You Were Wondering: No Coachella Lineup So Far

I decided to suffer through KROQ’s playlist of Papa Roach and Three Days Grace just in case its morning show happened to have the delayed Coachella lineup this morning, but one of the inane hosts (Bean, maybe?) just mentioned that he and his corporate overlords haven’t received any new information since yesterday. However, in the midst of this seemingly endless wait, a particularly creative nerd on the Coachella message board took the “Paul T” username (for Goldenvoice head Paul Tollett) and posted a very likely fake lineup. While I doubt the Hold Steady are playing both Friday and Saturday, if you care to dream about what might be, it’s below the cut. MORE »

Ryan Seacrest's Web site posted this list as if it were real.

What The Heck Is Going On With The Coachella Lineup Announcement?

So after tons of speculation and blog posts and rending of whatever garments one wears on message boards, the Coachella lineup was supposed to be announced today—only the reveal, which was supposed to take place on the Los Angeles station KROQ at 7:20 a.m. local time, was delayed because the organizers are still trying to “nail down a few big acts” at this date. (Thanks to Dan Gibson for keeping his ears open.) As you might expect, this bit of news caused much displeasure for a lot of people who like to argue about these sorts of things, and one person actually took the time to e-mail one of the KROQ morning show’s hosts demanding some sort of explanation. And that host for some reason actually responded to the e-mail (despite its subject line being “Screw You Fags!”), saying: MORE »

@T'Challa: well said. i don't know how many people i know get all up in arms about how it's too hot, too many people, blah blah blah. well, you know what? you did it wrong. and you went with the wrong people. i've been to every one except last year and they've all been just great memories thanks to my friends and pacing yourself.

A Very Small Piece Of The Coachella Lineup Revealed

As the music-obsessive enclaves of the Internet wait for the allegedly forthcoming announcement of the lineup for Coachella—and the festival’s employees post coy messages to Twitter that will only fan the message-board flames—one persistent reunion rumor has been debunked: Faith No More, sadly, will not be getting back together under the desert moonlight. But all is not lost for fans of former lead singer/constant vocal experimenter Mike Patton who have the urge to sweat: Patton is scheduled to play a set with the beatboxer Rahzel, according to Billboard. The two apparently have a long-in-the-works album languishing in a vault somewhere, and Rahzel was one of the many artists who helped out with Patton’s Peeping Tom project a couple of years back. After the jump, a clip of the pair performing Kelis’ “Milkshake” in 2004. MORE »

@revmatty: I disagree. It's just Patton making weird noises over Rahzel's beat-boxing. Makes you miss the Patton of old who could really sing, ya know?

The Coachella Rumormongering: Going Nowhere Fast

In past years, there’s been some sort of announcement of the Coachella lineup by now (like last year, when I spent several hours tuning into an internet feed for a Mexican indie rock station), but I haven’t even heard an announcement of an announcement regarding this year’s lineup yet. And there’s been the total silence on Goldenvoice’s blog and nothing on longtime festival sponsor KROQ’s site. Of course, that lack of official word hasn’t stopped one blog or another from “confirming” acts through mysterious anonymous sources. And according to someone on ohnotheydidnt, the Britney Spears appearance that seemed so preposterous a few weeks ago is actually going to happen, with the singer allowing lots of lazy scribes to make “dance tent”/”circus” jokes: MORE »

The lineup cannot contain too many goodies cuz I blew my wad to attend last year and will lose my shit if the likes of Paul McCartney shows up now.
