Rick Astley, "Family Guy" Fan

The Manchester Evening News has a charming profile of the long-in-hiding blue-eyed soul singer Rick Astley, who opted out from stardom in 1993 but is touring this summer on the Here and Now Tour. (That's the tour where artists' set lengths are determined by the number of big hits they had.) The piece has many charming details—Rick has a daughter, is working on a screenplay, and probably won't drop a new album anytime soon—but it would appear that while the reporter mentioned the Rickrolling phenomenon in the piece, he didn't ask Astley about it. How come? Because Astley fondly mentions being Rickrolled by freaking Family Guy, saying "whoever they get to do the voice is absolutely brilliant... I've played that to more people than I've played any record I've made. It's priceless." Sigh. Rick. You were so cute! [Manchester Evening News]

Pepsi Cola And Michael Jackson To Burn Up The Super Bowl Airwaves This Sunday

Rumor has it that a Pepsi ad celebrating the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's Thriller will air during halftime of the Super Bowl, no doubt to keep people from switching over to the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet and get them extra-pumped for Tom Petty's set. The ad will not be a "funny" re-enactment of the legendary commercial shown above; instead, it'll reportedly be based on the video for the album's title track, although I'm wondering if it's going to double as a promotion for the big Pepsi/Amazon MP3 music giveaway that's also launching during the big game. (Yes, I know Justin Timberlake was going to be the face of that campaign, but maybe everyone came to their senses and realized that a new-ish packaging of a classic record was a better way to get people excited about not illegally downloading music?) Duran Duran: Still Savvy About Getting Press

Reading the headline "Duran Duran shoot X-rated video" in 2007 can only inspire one thing: A YouTube search for the now-pretty-tame clip for the band's mini-epic "Girls On Film." That song is still so well-crafted and catchy, especially by current standards, and now I just want to put on Decade for the rest of the afternoon (given our server problems today, that might not be such a bad idea). Sly Stone Speaks, Shows Off His Chopper

The forthcoming issue of Vanity Fair has an article that, frankly, we never thought we'd see: a chat between the long-reclusive Sly Stone and VF contributing editor David Kamp, who admits to pursuing the musician for an interview, off and on, for about 12 years. The chat eventually takes place at the Bay Area bike shop Chopper Guys Biker Products Inc., which we're guessing will see an uptick in business from curious fans beginning, oh, around now or so—and yes, that is his bike pictured at right: More »
