The 10 Worst Album Covers Of 2011

Wed Dec 28 2011 by Becky Bain

Though our specialty is reviewing music, we’re often distracted from an artist’s tunes by their amazingly awful album cover. In 2011, there were 10 (mostly) high-profile releases with cover art so ridiculous, so badly designed, and just so straight-up weird that we had to share them with all of you. Last year, MGMT nabbed the highest honor here for their hallucinatory surf’s-up-kitty album cover art for Congratulations — but even that hot mess looked like it should be hanging in a museum compared to this year’s entries. Check out our 10 picks for worst cover art for albums and mixtapes released in 2011 (with one exception), and check back tomorrow for a palate cleanser of the year’s 10 best. More »

Michael Buble Has Early ‘Christmas’ On Album Chart, Holds Back Rihanna

Wed Nov 30 2011 by Robbie Daw
The dust has now settled on the race for the peak position on this week's Top 200 chart, and it's not either of the new offerings from Nickelback or Rihanna at #1 — it's Michael Buble, with his holiday hit album Christmas. With just over 227,000 copies sold, Buble's festive LP, which is now in its fifth week of release, narrowly beat out Nickelback's Here And Now (which Billboard notes sold just under 227,000). So where does that leave Rihanna? More »

Chris Daughtry Crawls Onto The ‘Tonight Show’

Thu Nov 3 2011 by Robbie Daw
When Daughtry's single "Crawling Back To You" was released a month ago, we predicted that adult contemporary radio would eat the song up. Alas, any gobbling of the tune that was done wasn't enough to land it in the Top 40. (After peaking at #41, the lead single from Break The Spell is currently floundering at #99 on the Hot 100.) Cue up Chris Daughtry and the band hitting up the Tonight Show for a performance last night, three weeks ahead of the album release. More »

Daughtry’s ‘Break The Spell’ Album Cover Confuses Us

Thu Oct 6 2011 by Becky Bain
What's going on here? Are they on the moon? Are they at war? What's that thing in the corner? Why are they standing with all their weight on one foot? And most confoundedly, were all five band members of Daughtry too busy to take a photo for their Break The Spell album cover while inhabiting the same space? So many questions! While we search for answers we may never get, check out the track list below. More »

Daughtry’s “Crawling Back To You” Single Crawls Onto iTunes

Tue Oct 4 2011 by Robbie Daw
Daughtry's "Crawling Back To You," from upcoming third LP Break The Spell, was released via iTunes today. Once again the band have teamed up with producer Howard Benson (Kelly Clarkson, Orianthi) for a mid-tempo, pop-rock heart-tugger. "I'm outta my head, can't wait any longer / down on my knees, I thought I was stronger," Chris Daughtry sings on the chorus, over several layers of guitars. Nothing ground-breaking here, but tasty enough that adult contemporary radio will probably bite at this hungrily. Crawl below to listen. More »

"Even though some of them didn't make the album, the process stretched us and took us to new places." The LP was produced by Howard Benson, who was behind the boards for the band's first two albums.

Poll: Who’s Given Us The Most Shocking ‘American Idol’ Moment?

Fri Apr 8 2011 by Robbie Daw
Oh, American Idol–you wicked, wicked beast. We're literally still reeling and crying into our Corn Flakes over the scandalous, far-too-soon exit of our Season 10 Idol Power List fave Pia Toscano from the show. But she's hardly the only upset viewers have had to endure since the series hit the air way back in 2002. Of course, the good news for Pia is that, as we've learned over the years, you don't necessarily have to make it to the AI finish line to achieve great success. Head below to vote for who you think has made the most shocking exit from American Idol in the past 10 seasons. More »

‘American Idol’ To Release A Greatest “Hits” Collection

Thu Feb 3 2011 by Becky Bain
American Idol is celebrating a decade on the air by releasing a greatest hits compilation called American Idol 10th Anniversary — The Hits. Jump below to find out what songs and artists Fox considers a success. More »
