mauraatidolator: not the kings of leon bit so much

In case you're wondering, the rest of the top 10 will apparently consist of Joe, Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, and Young Jeezy. [HITS Daily Double]

It Was Fun While It Lasted, Jonases

It's too close to call next week's No. 1 album, but in all likelihood, it'll be by someone much less palatable to the parents of today: The Jonas Brothers' two-week stay at the top will be thwarted by either the name-dropping MC the Game or the masked metallers Slipknot. Both acts are projecting sales in the quarter of a million area, while Kid Rock and the JoBros fight it out for third with around 80,000 each. The Mamma Mia soundtrack, buoyed by the theatrical release of the movie's sing-a-long version, will likely place fifth, while Lil Wayne, Coldplay, Sugarland, NOW Country, Rihanna, and Staind fight it out for the remainder of the top ten. If the number of Slipknot discs shoplifted from retail outlets were included, it would be a gimme for the Iowans, but we'll have to see how it shakes out in the end on Wednesday. [HITS Daily Double]

Sugarland Vs. Miley Cyrus: Anyone's Guess

The Great Miley Cyrus/Sugarland Battle of '08 continues with today's chart projections from Hits. Little did we know that Miley had a trick up her sleeve (on those days that she actually wears sleeves, anyway). More »

Surprise, Surprise: Nas Takes Over The Top Spot

According to early reports, Nas has managed to pull off the seemingly impossible task of keeping Lil Wayne and Coldplay from the top spot on the Billboard albums chart. Of course, what with Miley Cyrus' album dropping next week, Nas shouldn't get too used to life on top, but around 200,000 albums sold is a decent take for an album with minimal radio airplay. Meanwhile, Tha Carter III appears to have Viva La Vida beat in the longevity game, taking second with an estimated 110,000 album sales to Coldplay's 85-90,000. The Camp Rock soundtrack slots into fourth with a projected 80-85,000 copies sold, while Kid Rock's resurgence continues with another 75,000 albums sold this week for fifth place. The rest of the top ten is a logjam in the 50,000-sold range with the Mamma Mia soundtrack, John Mellencamp, O.A.R., David Banner, Taylor Swift and NOW 28 all falling somewhere near that number. Sure, Lil Wayne Is Going To Sell A Boatload Of Albums. But What About Plies?

At this point, we've all heard that Lil Wayne is going to dominate the charts next week, approaching the long-forgotten one week/one million sold mark last achieved by 50 Cent in 2005. However, Plies (who, to me, is sullying the once proud Slip-N-Slide name) is also having a pretty good week, as he's on track to sell around 225,000 copies of Definition of Real. Chris Molanphy favorite Now 28 likely will jump past last week's chart-topper Disturbed into third (140-150,000), with the bald guy and his anonymous band fighting it out with Usher for fourth (95-100,000). N.E.R.D. will likely debut in sixth with around 90,000 sold; Wal-Mart keeps the Journey wheel rolling, selling around 80,000 copies of their likely No. 7 Revelation; and 55,000 suckers will soon regret purchasing the new Alanis Morissette. My Morning Jacket, Weezer, and the unkillable Sex And The City soundtrack are battling for the last two spots in the top ten. Next week, some British dudes and the delightful Katy Perry hit stores. Tough Break, Nerds: The Jocks Win Again

HITS Daily Double's chart predictions for the coming week are slightly good news for the music industry, with five albums selling in the six-digit range, and bad news for humanity, what with Disturbed taking the top spot with around a quarter of a million copies sold of their latest album, Indestructible. The last Disturbed disc had a similar first-week sales tally (239,000), so either Warner Brothers' strategy of keeping the band from playing new material live is paying off or the band's fans haven't made a lot of progress in figuring out the Internet. Likely filling out the top five are Weezer (150,000-160,000), the 28th volume of the unsinkable Now series (145,000-155,000), Usher's Here I Stand (140,000-150,000), and the Wal-Mart-only Journey disc (100,000-110,000). Ashanti seems to have been hit the hardest by time, with her nearly 250,000-copy first-week sales total for 2004's Concrete Rose dipping to a meager 75,000-85,000 for The Declaration. She should really consider recording a country record. [HITS Daily Double]

Death Cab Bounced Aside By 3 Doors Down

Death Cab For Cutie's reign at the top of the album charts was fun while it lasted, but Alabama natives and Hinder/Staind touring buddies 3 Doors Down are projected to take the No. 1 spot on Wednesday by a landslide, with around 150,000 projected sales of their new, self-titled album. Bun B's post-UGK solo album trails in the No. 2 spot, with sales likely falling just short of the six-digit mark, and squeaky clean, yet scantily clad dancer turned country star Julianne Hough grabbing No. 3 with 60,000 sales. Last week's chart slides down with Frank Sinatra at No. 4, Death Cab as the likely No. 5, and the deathless Leona Lewis at No. 6. Duffy, Mariah Carey, Toby Keith, and Madonna are the likely picks for the rest of the top 10, with all those albums projected to sell in the 40,000-copy range. [HITS Daily Double]

What Will Death Cab Have To Be Sad About Now?

The largely accurate Hits Daily Double Friday chart preview has been posted, and Death Cab for Cutie are projected to hit the top spot on this week's album chart with sales in the neighborhood of 150,000 copies. Everyone else probably won't make it past 100k, including a Frank Sinatra Reprise best-of repackaging at #2 (80,000 or so), Mariah Carey (70-ish thousand), Jason Mraz, Leona Lewis, Neil Diamond, Madonna and Toby Keith. Fighting it out for the ninth and tenth spots: active rock newcomers 10 Years, and the always charming Keith Sweat. Next week, a parade of exciting releases honoring my birthday from Bun B, 3 Doors Down, Jesse McCartney, and the Flobots. [Hits Daily Double]
