Adam Levine Starts Record Label, Signs ‘Glee’ Star Matthew Morrison

Thu Feb 9 2012 by Becky Bain
After doling out advice on The Voice, Adam Levine believes he can shape a star off camera, too. The Maroon 5 frontman has announced the launch of his own record label, 222 Records, and his first signee is Glee star Matthew Morrison. "Starting my own label has been a long-time goal of mine and I am thrilled to be at the point in my career where it is finally happening," Levine said. "I am excited for everyone to hear Matthew's forthcoming album. Great things are in store for him with this release." Expect Mr. Schue's sophomore LP sometime this spring. [Via E! Online]

Ricky Martin And Naya Rivera Cover Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita” On ‘Glee’

Wed Feb 8 2012 by Becky Bain
Last night, Ricky Martin tangoed his way onto the top of our list of favorite Glee guest stars ever, playing Spanish language teacher (and former "tooth model") Mr. Martinez. In addition to performing "Sexy And I Know It", the Puerto Rican superstar and the show's resident Latina Naya Rivera performed a duet of Madonna's 1987 single "La Isla Bonita". Ricky and Naya are en fuego during their number, but the real draw is to watch Mr. Schuester squirm in his seat as he faces the fact that his skills as both a Spanish teacher and a glee club coach have been trumped. Watch below. More »

Ricky Martin Wiggle, Wiggle, Wiggles On ‘Glee’ In “Sexy And I Know It”

Fri Feb 3 2012 by Becky Bain
In the upcoming Glee episode "The Spanish Teacher", Mr. Schuester — himself, a Spanish teacher, unless you forgot he did anything else at McKinley besides get way too involved in his students' personal lives — feels threatened by the new foreign language teacher played by Ricky Martin. And those feelings of inferiority are completely warranted, as Ricky gives us some much needed sizzle in his choir room cover of LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know It". The dancing is top notch, and there's even a cameo by a faux-Shufflebot! Watch below. More »

The Idolator Hype Index (Week Of 1.29.12)

Fri Feb 3 2012 by Robbie Daw
Sorry — what was that? We could barely hear you over the locomotive that is the Madonna Train roaring through Planet Pop at 140 mph. The Queen truly soared and thrilled over the past seven days, but the week wasn't without heartbreak, as a bona fide R&B pioneer from the television world met a tragic end. Thankfully we had the Michael Jackson episode of Glee, the rise of UK gents The Wanted and the rad return of Garbage to ease the pain. See how all these music players ranked on our weekly Pop & Fizz hype index by heading below! More »

Ricky Martin Is Sexy (And He Knows It) On ‘Glee’

Thu Feb 2 2012 by Becky Bain
It's been some time since we've seen Ricky Martin shakes his bon bons, but the singer will more than make up for lost time when he guest stars on an upcoming episode of Glee. The Viva Glam spokesperson will perform two numbers in the episode (titled "The Spanish Teacher"), with one being a choir room performance of LMFAO's #1 single "Sexy And I Know It", which he sings en espanol. Thank you, Ricky, for teaching us to be sexy in two languages — even if you declined to do so while wiggle, wiggle, wiggling in a banana hammock. Preview his appearance below! More »

Michael Jackson’s ‘Glee’ Tribute Episode: What A “Scream”

Wed Feb 1 2012 by Becky Bain
Glee's Michael Jackson tribute episode (cleverly titled "Michael") aired last night, and it featured a mish-mosh of a cappella versions, faithful covers and reenactments of several classic MJ videos. (There were also cellos, eye patches and Finchel duets filling the relatively plot-less episode right to the brim.) It was all a bunch of silliness to capitalize not only on the current IMMORTAL World Tour Cirque Du Soleil show traveling the country (referenced seconds after the episode began!), but Jackson's continuing popularity. Watch a few of the musical numbers below. More »

‘Glee’ Has Been Struck By A “Smooth Criminal” — Watch

Fri Jan 27 2012 by Erika Brooks Adickman
As Glee draws closer to its Michael Jackson tribute show (make sure you tweet accordingly with the #GleeHee hashtag), the musical dramedy has teased us with another selection from Tuesday's episode. Naya Rivera pays homage to the original music video for "Smooth Criminal" with a fedora and zoot suit jacket, though she stays clear of attempting MJ's signature anti-gravity lean. Instead, Dalton Academy's Sebastian and McKinley's fiercest creature circle two cellists in what looks like the most low stakes round of musical chairs ever. Watch below. More »

Darren Criss Tributes Michael Jackson In “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”

Thu Jan 26 2012 by Becky Bain
Darren Criss obviously knows how to dance — after all, he had to show off his moves nightly during his three-week run in the Broadway show How To Succeed — but we had no idea he knew how to dance. Blaine is the lead Gleek in this performance clip of "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", from Glee's upcoming tribute episode to Michael Jackson, and we have to say, he fills the Gloved One's shoes pretty well. Watch Darren take on the King of Pop below. Darren Criss Makes Big Bucks For Broadway’s ‘How To Succeed In Business’

Mon Jan 23 2012 by Becky Bain
As if you weren't already aware that Darren Criss' star power has eclipsed most if not all of his Glee castmates: on Sunday, Darren made his final performance playing J. Pierrepont Finch in the musical How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, and he proved quite a box-office hit during his three weeks on Broadway. The show earned approximately $1.3 million per week Criss took the stage, giving the musical three of its most lucrative weeks during its 11-month run. More »
