Goldfrapp Reveal New Song “Melancholy Sky”

Thu Jan 5 2012 by Becky Bain
Goldfrapp's The Singles collection will not only include hits from the electro duo's five studio albums, but will include two new tracks: "Yellow Halo" (whose video was shot using an iPhone), and "Melancholy Sky", a slow-building, nostalgic ballad that sounds like it could have been recorded right smack in the 70s. Listen to it below, and look out for The Singles to drop on February 7 in the US. More »

Goldfrapp Collection ‘The Singles’ Lined Up For US Release In February

Fri Dec 9 2011 by Robbie Daw
Following the premiere of Goldfrapp's "Yellow Halo" video yesterday — which was shot entirely on an iPhone and compiled of footage of Alison Goldfrapp traipsing around South America — it was announced today that The Singles will get a US release (via Astralwerks) on February 7, a day after the collection arrives overseas. As mentioned, "Yellow Halo" will be accompanied by one other new song, "Melancholy Sky". The other 12 tracks are comprised of singles from Goldfrapp's five studio LPs. More »

Goldfrapp’s “Yellow Halo” Video, Shot On An iPhone, Premieres

Thu Dec 8 2011 by Robbie Daw
UK duo Goldfrapp are following up their Grammy-nominated 2010 album Head First with the aptly-titled best-of collection The Singles (due out February 6 —  in the UK at least). "Yellow Halo" is one of two new songs that will appear on the album (the other is "Melancholy Sky"), and the video for the track — which finds the duo returning to more of the sound heard on 2008's Seventh Tree — is compiled of iPhone footage shot in South America. Goldfrapp Vs. Hurts: Who Did The Better Remix Of Lady Gaga’s “Judas”

Tue May 17 2011 by Robbie Daw
What ever have we here? One of our favorite longstanding British duos, Goldfrapp, reworked Lady Gaga's single “Judas” for the remix EP that was just added to iTunes. But one of our favorite freshman British duos, Hurts, also took a crack at the naughty religious pop jam! How are we supposed to take sides? Our heads are spinning, holy fools that we are. Listen to them both after the jump! More »

Grammy Awards 2011: We Pick The Pop Winners

Mon Feb 7 2011 by Idolator Staff
Sunday's 2011 Grammy Awards telecast is sure to be noteworthy — everyone from Lady Gaga to Gwyneth Paltrow seems to be on the bill to perform — but as stoked as we are to see whether Cee Lo sticks to the censored version of his song or lets the FCC go ballistic, we're most excited to see who wins what.

This week we’ll be pitching our best guesses for which act will nab each category in the Big Four—Best New Artist, and Album, Song and Record of the Year. But today, we present to you Idolator’s picks for all the major pop categories. Jump below to see if you agree with us, and let us know if you can figure out why B.o.B's collab with rap superstar Eminem, "Airplanes II", is up for Best Pop Collaboration, while his similarly-styled hit "Nothin' On You" with pop maestro Bruno Mars is nominated in the rap categories. The Best Cover Art Of 2010 (PHOTOS)

Wed Dec 22 2010 by Becky Bain

We’ve been a bit moody this week, detailing the major fails of pop music in 2010 — which includes these 10 terrible album covers. We don’t want to be an office full of Scrooges so close to Christmas, though, so we decided to focus on the positive and pick what we thought were the 10 Best Album Covers from the past year. Some were funny, others were thought-provoking, and many were just straight-up gorgeous — flip through to see some of the most striking paintings and photos to hit CD sleeves the past 12 months, ending with our (candy-scented!) favorite. And congrats to Kanye, who appears on both our Best and Worst Cover Art list! As if he hadn’t already received enough accolades this year. More »

10 Out Of ‘10: Idolator’s Favorite Albums Of The Year

Wed Dec 15 2010 by Idolator Staff
With the year just about wrapped up, we here at Idolator decided to get together, pore over our individual iPods and revisit the music that got us motivated in 2010. Perhaps some of the following 10 albums weren't the most critically acclaimed, but they were ones that inspired our hopes, heart-felt dreams and repeated plays while we navigated Planet Pop here on the website each day over the past 12 months. And so, in no particular order other than alphabetical... More »

The 2011 Grammy Nominations

Wed Dec 1 2010 by Idolator Staff
The principal 2011 Grammy nominees were announced on the Grammy Nominations Concert Live telecast (with the rest of the categories revealed after the program), and Eminem seems to be in full "recovery" as he dominates this year with a total of 10 nods (including biggies Song, Record, Album and Rap Album Of The Year).

Bruno Mars scored seven nominations, for his featured vocals on B.o.B's "Nothin' On You", writing credit on Cee Lo Green's "F**k You", his own hit "Just The Way You Are" and also Producer Of The Year (as part of the Smeezingtons). Just behind him are this year's six-time nominees Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga and Jay-Z.

Kudos also to La Roux, Robyn and Goldfrapp, for at least being recognized in the Dance categories, and Adam Lambert, for his Best Male Pop Vocal Performance nod. Check the list of 2011 Grammy nominees below and let us know which of these surprised you the most. More »

Sink Your Fangs Into Goldfrapp’s ‘Vampire Diaries’ Jam “We Radiate”

Mon Oct 4 2010 by Robbie Daw
Earlier this year Goldfrapp released the brilliant but too-short album Head First, which offered only nine songs. As an end-of-the-year bonus, the pair have a new track called "We Radiate" that appears on the upcoming soundtrack to TV's The Vampire Diaries. (Maybe the occult Ian Somerhalder soap is what inspired their recent bloodsucker-themed "Alive" video?) Head below to hear the 'frapp's latest. More »
