Gorillaz To Drop ‘The Singles Collection 2001—2011′

Wed Oct 5 2011 by Becky Bain
There have been rumors and reports of Gorillaz finally throwing in the towel, with mastermind Damon Albarn moving onto other projects, and it appears a mysterious tweet from cartoon bandmate Murdoc may have confirmed it: "Gorillaz are TEN. Ten years old, eh? T.E.N. What’s that stand for? The End is Nigh…!" (He later followed it up with a similar tweet, tweaking his acronym to mean "This Era's New!") We may need to prepare ourselves to say goodbye to our animated friends, and there's no better way to do that then to bask in Gorillaz - The Singles Collection: 2001-2011, available November 29. Taylor Swift Working On ‘Speak Now’ Follow-Up Album — Morning Mix

Wed Oct 5 2011 by Becky Bain
Did You Hear?

:: Taylor Swift wrote a bunch of sad songs for her new album. Her guitar must be soaked by this point. [PopCrush]

:: Is this the real end of Gorillaz? A message on band character Murdoc's Twitter page read, "'Gorillaz are TEN. Ten years old, eh? T.E.N. What’s that stand for? The End is Nigh…!" [NME]

:: Amy Winehouse's "Me And Mr. Jones" was reportedly all about Nas. Yes, that Nas, aka Nasir Jones. It's no "You Oughtta Know" or "You're So Vain" reveal, but it's something. [Jezebel]

:: Check out some old home movies of a tweenage Taylor Swift getting her first guitar at Christmas. Adorable. [PopDust]

:: Ashlee Simpson, who's currently working on new music (yay?), celebrated her 27th birthday with new beau Vincent Piazza. [Music & Lyrics]

Miley Cyrus Climbs Up “On Melancholy Hill” Covering Gorillaz

Sun Jul 3 2011 by Idolator Staff
It's always fun when a major artist covers a well-known past hit from another major artist. We're thinking of Lady Gaga joining Sting on "Stand By Me," or Britney Spears adding Madonna's "Burning Up" to her Femme Fatale tour set. What's even better? When a major artist goes a less predictable route, and covers a lesser-known song from a band we'd never associate them with! That's why we were so excited to hear Miley Cyrus make "The Climb" up "On Melancholy Hill" as an engagement treat for two of her dancers at the Perth stop on her Gypsy Heart tour, turning in a — yes — rather melancholy rendition of the pretty Plastic Beach ditty. Watch below. More »

Thu Mar 17 2011 by Becky Bain
Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn has been working on his opera Doctor Dee for quite some time now — Watchmen writer Alan Moore dropped out of the project, but Albarn kept going forward, and this summer we'll finally see the fruit of his musical labors. The opera will premiere at the Manchester International Festival in July, then head to the English National Opera in London. Bonus: Albarn will be performing! We find it hard to imagine his soothing, mellow vocals in an opera, but we're excited nonetheless. [Pitchfork]

You're not ready to leave the holiday season behind just yet, are you? Us either. Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn has revealed that the group's upcoming iPad album will be called The Fall, after the season in which it was created.
