A small but vocal section of the internet claims that musical bricoleurs Noel and Liam have swiped some or all of “The Turning,” slated for the upcoming Oasis album Dig Out Your Soul, from a 1976 song by old-school Brit chart powerhouse Cliff Richard. Oasis? Jacking from a U.K. pop star who was big in the ’60s? Apparently so, according to the international network of rabid Cliff-ies. To wit.

“This is a rip-off,” claimed one forum poster. “What’ll they do next? Remix ‘Mistletoe And Wine’?”

Janine Castle of the International Cliff Richard Movement, was more positive about the supposed similarity, telling the Daily Mirror, “I’m astounded Oasis used Cliff as their muse – but delighted.”

The ire (or at least bemusement) of Cliff Richard fans has got to sting, especially after getting their asses handed to them by Pink in the race to the U.K.’s No. 1 spot. Also Boyzone has a new Top Ten hit? WTF England?
