High School Musical Star Is Deeply Sorry For Inadvertently Providing Planet With Wank Mining Material

hsm2222.jpgOccasionally* Gelfling-esque High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has mostly suppressed the shame of having naked pictures she snapped for an ex hit the blogs back in September, but the incident has left her with a “valuable lesson,” one that she “tries to impart on other young women.”

Will The Hollywood Writer’s Strike Deprive Us Of Future Doses Of Disney Tween Pop?

77053746.jpgIf you were a parent, a preteen, or a weirdo hangin’ by the movie fone for the big screen versions of High School Musical and Hannah Montana (and their attendant soundtracks) in 2008, keep waiting, because shoddy shooting scripts coupled with the WGA strike bleeding dry the pool of people who can punch those scripts up have left Disney in the franchise-fracturing position of possibly having to mothball both for the time being, thereby alienating “fickle” grade school fans and/or destroying what’s left of the music (and ice tour!) industry as we know it! Maybe? MORE »

because those scripts aren't in good enough shape to shoot

That is funny. Well, this would be an excellent opportunity for Miley Cyrus to put out a brilliant sleeper confessional dance album about her clinical depression stemming from overwhelming expectations from the world/her family without anyone noticing (and without Disney needing to promote it much, which is what happened to H-Duff's Dignity).

Also, I am available to do SCAB WORK for Disney as a consultant/songwriter. "Two-Faced Lovin'," "Bipolar DisOrder (B.D.O.)," and "(Not My) Natural Hair Color" are just THREE of the songs I have written in the course of typing this.

HSM gets none of my songs.

Idolator Takes To The Ice With The Kids From <i>High School Musical</i>

So what did you all do with your Saturday evening? Well why you were all drinking in grownup bars or taking in art house movies or watching indie bands in intimate clubs or re-alphabetizing your Modern Library collection, Maura and I were braving disapproving looks from concerned parents eyeballing us like potential kidnappers as we tried to brave a wriggling army of screeching rugrats, all while resisting the urge to spend $15 on cotton candy because it came with a sweet purple plastic fedora. We were front row–well, as front row as I could afford, which wasn’t very–at Madison Square Garden for “the one and only live fusion of songs, dance and team-spirited fun inspired by the smash hit Disney Channel Original Movie.” Yes, this weekend Idolator took in High School Musical: The Ice Tour: MORE »

Will Vanessa Hudgens’ Leaked Pics Torpedo “High School Musical”’s Sales?

hsm2222.jpgSo yesterday, a picture that was rumored to be of High School Musical star/Zac Efron paramour Vanessa Hudgens in the buff made its way around the Internet, with various people (including the celebrity-nude forensic investigators at the NSFW Fleshbot) figuring that the picture was faked somehow. Well, surprise surprise: Hudgens’ reps confirmed the picture as real late last night, thus setting off freak-outs all over the Web’s gossip sites. But there’s another issue at hand: How will this mini-scandal affect the sales of the High School Musical 2 soundtrack, which has had a vise-like grip over the Billboard 200’s summit since it hit stores last month? We asked our resident chart guru Chris “dennisobell” Molanphy for his take on how this shot might affect the fate of one of the few albums that’s actually shifting units these days. His analysis follows: MORE »

The High School Musical 2 soundtrack has six songs in this week’s Billboard Hot 100–including the No. 33 song, “What Time Is It,” which leaked all the way back in May but still sold 63,000 copies to Zac Efron-loving-tweens around the country. MORE »

Six songs is impressive, but it's fewer than the nine songs from the original HSM that hit the Hot 100 simultaneously in winter 2006.

Obviously all of these "hits" are the result of a one-week infusion of iTunes sales, not any appreciable radio airplay. The fact that fewer songs made the Hot 100 this time -- and none of them made the top 10 -- is (I'm theorizing) evidence that Billboard's recent skewing of the chart formula away from iTunes and back towards terrestrial radio airplay is working as expected.

“High School Musical” Continues Its Iron-Fist Chart Domination

hsm2222.jpgAs expected by, well, pretty much everyone, the soundtrack to High School Musical 2 topped this week’s album charts, with 615,000 people ponying up to hear the latest songs by Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and company. HSM2 was one of four Radio Disney-friendly albums in the top 20; Hannah Montana 2 was No. 2, the Jonas’ Brothers self-titled album on Hollywood slipped to No. 8, and the original High School Musical Soundtrack vaulted all the way up from No. 28 to No. 16. The only catch about HSM2’s debut? Its first-week total was about 8,000 shy of Linkin Park’s first-week total for Minutes to Midnight. (Guess some of those kids grew up.) MORE »

@Tauwan: I think it has something to do with the fact that "Big Girls Don't Cry" is on pop radio every 10 seconds.
