‘Hope For Haiti Now’ Controls The Chart, Susan Boyle Kept A Lady In Waiting

Billboard announced earlier this week that the Hope For Haiti Now compilation would debut at #1 on the Top 200 Albums chart, but the final sales figures were better than predicted. After only two days of availability over the weekend before the cut-off period for this week's chart, the charity concert album ended up selling a total of 171,000 copies. As Billboard notes, this marks the first time that a digital-only album has reached #1 on the Top 200.

iTunes Users Praise Justin Timberlake And Matt Morris’ “Hallelujah” All The Way To #1

As of yesterday, Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris' take on "Hallelujah" from the Hope For Haiti Now telethon was the most downloaded track on iTunes from the charity event. Now it's simply the most downloaded song on iTunes, period.

The Hope For Haiti Now compilation will reportedly debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart this week, but it was the two pals' somber cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" that struck a particular chord with viewers. The Hope For Haiti Now album of live performances collected from Friday's telethon managed to rack up a jaw-dropping 150,000 downloads on Saturday and Sunday alone, and will top the upcoming Top 200 Albums chart, Billboard reported today.

One artist who probably let out an ear-piercing F Sharp shriek upon hearing the news was Susan Boyle, whose I Dreamed A Dream was expected to return to #1 for a seventh non-consecutive week. (Billboard notes she may end up with around 80,000 copies sold.) More »


Justin Timberlake’s “Hallelujah” Is The Most Downloaded From ‘Hope For Haiti’

Friday's two-hour Hope For Haiti Now telethon raised roughly $58 million by the following day, which MTV noted is a new record for donations made by the general public through a disaster-relief telethon. That figure, however, only included donations made by telephone, texting and online. Large private donations and money given by corporations have yet to be calculated.

Also yet to be tallied up are the sales figures for the accompanying Hope For Haiti Now digital album of the telethon's live musical performances. So far the collection has topped the iTunes chart in 18 countries. More »

This evening's Hope For Haiti Now telethon ended up being one of the most widely distributed prime-time televised benefits in history. All in all, the MTV-presented program was broadcast on over 25 networks (including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, BET, The CW, VH1, HBO and CMT), and featured performances by Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, U2, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Shakira, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Coldplay, Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Jennifer Hudson, Madonna, Dave Matthews and Neil Young.
