Sure, you knew that Imogen Heap was handy with technology (she’s moved from the twitdress to, what else? An iPad.) You’d imagine she’s also a pretty strong multi-tasker, and you’d be right. The British singer-songwriter showed off her haunting vocals while playing every instrument in her Coachella set via a looping gadget. Greetings from the desert, folks—Idolator's out here in Indio, California, for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this weekend. Well, us and what feels like a trillion other music fans. So far we've been scorched by the sun, had our wallets emptied by food vendors charging $16 for gyro combo meals, and spent more time in our cars than on the field. Oh, and there was some kick-ass music. Imogen Heap Talks About Giving Her Songs Over To The People

Imogen Heap already earned two Grammy nominations for her latest album, Ellipse and gained plenty of new fans thanks to Jason Derulo, but she still feels like an underdog. Current Music posted Imogen's segment from its six-part "Embedded" series today, which finds the singer in Los Angeles, premiering her song "First Train Home" on the influential public radio station KCRW in Santa Monica, Calif. "It now already feels like it doesn't belong to me, and it's on its way," Imogen says once the track airs. "It's now in the big wide world... I'm just excited for the song's journey." Currently sitting at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100: “Whatcha Say” by the Floridian crooner Jason DeRulo, a little bit of Autotuned R & B pathos that’s wound around a hook that should be familiar to fans of junk-food TV and/or Zach Braff flicks: the “whatcha saaaa-aaay” singsongy bit of Imogen Heap’s 2005 single “Hide And Seek,” which was used to great effect by The O.C. and the digital-shorts team at Saturday Night Live, among many others, earlier this decade.
