When Brad Pitt is throwing a party, you’re pretty much guaranteed some quality entertainment. Pitt, along with Ellen DeGeneres, hosted the movie star’s Make It Right gala in New Orleans on Saturday night, and Kanye West, Rihanna, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg, Sheryl Crow and Seal were some of the big names to take the stage at the event, which took place at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans. Ahoy, mateys! Kanye West was spotted today taking in the sights of Cannes by yacht. (No, we don’t think it was Pharrell’s musical Love Boat.) Apparently, he’s not just in town to kiss pretty ladies and jam on stage with Jamie Foxx. The recent Coachella performer kept it casual in while at sea in black t-shirt and matching black hoodie. We’re not saying Kanye West and Jamie Foxx are gold-diggers, but they definitely knew what they were doing dusting off their 2005 mega-smash “Gold Digger.” The Oscar-winning “Yep, Dat’s Me” singer and his Coachella-rocking buddy hit up the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival’s Red Granite party, treating the crowd to their half-decade-old hit. How’d it compare to the Cannes performances by Jessie J and Lady Gaga? Find out below.

Just in case you didn’t get the memo from Ryan Seacrest, last night’s elimination round of American Idol was to have two contestants voted off. And the episode didn’t disappoint—well, unless you were fans of either Naima Adedapo or Thia Megia. One surprise, however, came when the usual group performance was ditched in favor of the Top 11 contestants splitting into duet partners, trios and quartets. Read on!

The first duet came from Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, who took on Idol alum Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis’ “I Told You So.” The country-leaning pair sitting and making googly eyes at each other while singing the  heart-tugging ballad was far more entertaining than watching Jacob Lusk and Naima Adedapo‘s awkward dancing while delivering their rendition of Ashford & Simpson’s “Solid.” Naima was the first one to land in the Bottom Three.

Next up was Thia, Pia Toscano and Haley Reinhart‘s karaoke-lite version of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” Sorry, girls, but it was pretty cheesy. But if it’s any comfort, we’ve yet to hear Katy herself deliver a truly great live performance of her hit.

Thia was shuffled off to join Naima in the Bottom Three before James Durbin, Paul McDonald, Casey Abrams and Stefano Langone took the stage with their respective instruments and banged out the best performance of the evening, a cover of Paul McCartney & Wings’ “Band On The Run.” Afterwards, Paul wound up filling out the Bottom Three, which wasn’t really a shock to us, given his wobbly turn on “Rocket Man” Wednesday night.

Before the results were given, Season 3 winner Fantasia returned to the Idol stage to dish up her Back To Me single “Collard Greens & Cornbread.”

And after the Black Eyed Peas’ performance of “Just Can’t Get Enough” the other week, will.i.am returned to rap on Rio soundtrack jam “Hot Wings (I Wanna Party)” with Jamie Foxx.

In the end, Paul wound up safe, while Thia and Naima got the axe. If we had our way, Stefano would have been tossed out instead of reggae-loving Naima, but such is the way of the cruel American Idol machine.

What did you think of last night’s results?

Jamie Foxx took to the Tonight Show With Jay Leno stage last night to promote recently-released album Best Night Of My Life, and there was nary an Auto-Tuned vocal to be heard. The seemingly unstoppable entertainer-of-all-trades started off crooning his new ballad “Fall For Your Type” (sans Drake) then segued into club jam “Yep Dat’s Me” (sans Ludacris and Soulja Boy, who was probably off yapping to anyone who’ll listen that he wrote “Whip My Hair”). It was freaking Christmas last week, people. Did you think anyone was going to knock sweet, family-friendly cover girl Taylor Swift out of the top spot on the chart? Not a chance. (Oh Taylor, don’t act all surprised.) In what is traditionally one of the biggest weeks of the year for music sales, shoppers picked up another 276,000 copies of Speak Now, delivering Taylor her second straight week at #1. Swift easily held off new albums from Jamie Foxx and Keyshia Cole. But did anyone give Michael Jackson’s posthumous Michael for Xmas? Find out after the jump.

Last-minute shopping for the week ending Dec. 26 also benefitted a number of other albums that (presumably) made for lovely stocking stuffers: the Glee Christmas album sold 160,000 copies (up 1% to grab the #3 spot); Eminem’s Recovery jumped 15 spots to take #7, with 137,000 copies (that’s a 100% increase); and Rihanna’s Loud crept back into the top 10, rising 1 spot with sales of 111,000 copies (up 33%).

But all of that amounted to a lump of coal for Keri Hilson, whose No Boys Allowed album was denied a Top 10 debut. She had to settle for #11, with sales of 102,000. Wonder if anyone thinks this was Santa’s way of telling Keri she’s on the naughty list.

Best Night Of My Life, drops tomorrow, and we’re curious how well it will sell — although the publicity for this album has been so-so, the singer-actor’s last two albums charted pretty impressively at #1 and #3 on the Billboard 200. We’ll have to wait til the new year to see how many people picked up Foxx’s LP as a last-minute Christmas gift.

Jamie Foxx, who turns 43 today, swung by The Ellen DeGeneres Show this morning to compare astrological signs with the cheery talk show host and reveal his big b-day plans: “I wanna get arrested!” Uh, be careful what you joke about, Jamie — hip-hop stars being thrown behind bars appears to be a growing trend this year, and you know what they say about the Rule of Threes. Jamie also sat down with Ellen, and though he sounded downtrodden while performing his sad song, the birthday boy was in very high spirits. He’s certainly having a better day than he was in the song’s video.

Happy b-day, Jamie! And just remember, if you do end up partying too hardy and get arrested, you can’t blame it on the alcohol and get away with it.

Jamie Foxx takes falling in love to new heights in the video for “Fall For Your Type,” in which he literally plummets off a downtown-LA skyscraper thanks to comely model (and Playboy Playmate) Jessica Burciaga. Fresh from having the “Best Night of My Life”, this Chris Robinson-directed video depicts the film and music superstar having a decidedly bad day, with an appearance by Drake. Watch it here.

This artistic vid makes good use of slow-motion and a few striking visuals, most notably that of Foxx hurtling through the air amidst broken glass. A few less bankable items also take a tumble, including a cell phone into a glass of Chardonnay – though nothing quite lives up to the sight of an Academy Award winner dropping to what seems a certain demise.

What actually happens when Foxx reaches the end of his descent remains a mystery, since the video instead opts to have Jamie and his plunge-worthy girlfriend patch things up at the end. And who says a relationship has to be over just because she pushed you out of a high-rise?

Best Night Of My Life, Foxx’s fourth studio album, is due December 21.

The lead single to Jamie Foxx’s fourth studio album Best Night Of My Life, the Justin Timberlake collab “Winner“, was released all the way back in April — knee-deep into Winter, and now Fox’s camp is just starting to roll out the rest of his tracks only one fortnight til his LP drops on December 21. Beware, Jamie, the cautionary tale of The Black Eyed Peas, who released their first single a mere moment before The Beginning dropped to poor sales — for them, at least. Whatever happened to drumming up hype over a long period of time? Nicki Minaj and Kanye did it that way, and look how well that worked for them.

“If we keep lovin’ like this, we might make a child / A daughter or son, whichever one / Girl, you’re second to none,” sings Jamie.

The tune is surprisingly less stuffed up with excess beats and unnecessary production flare than we expected — you’d think the way most hip-hop songs are built these days, you’d need an overload of air horns just to keep people’s attention for three minutes. But this simple and sweet love jam hits it just right without ever going overboard. It’s also a great jumping off point for a more intense dance remix.

What do you think of the Oscar winner’s latest?

Jamie Foxx may or may not have some free time (depending on whether Skank Robbers really sees the light of day or Kane And Lynch goes into production). But, occupied with acting or not, he’s prepping a new album, Body, and he’s dropped a slinky first single. With an assist from Bawse-man Rick Ross (and a nice Notorious B.I.G. sample), “Living Better Now” finds Foxx living large and seducing the ladies in sly style. Hear it below:

When it comes to hip-hop bromances, our favorite has to be T.I. and Jamie Foxx, who are teaming up for a second time this year. A mid-tempo R&B track called “Yep That’s Me” surfaced today, and it features the comeback King dropping a verse while the Oscar-winner namechecks Halle Berry. (Maybe this is his way of finagling together a romantic comedy starring both he and Berry? We wouldn’t be surprised.) This will most likely end up on Foxx’s upcoming fourth studio album Best Night Of My Life, but you can catch a listen below right now.

The track comes off the latest Lime Light Exclusives mixtape and has Foxx rapping—not our favorite skill from the Renaissance Man, but it’s not too shabby.

The delicate beat gives the song a slightly off-kilter, seductive vibe, but despite T.I.’s best efforts, the majority of the generic track falls flat. The tuneless, Soulja Boy-assisted refrain of the chorus “Yeah that’s me!” comes off like nails on a chalkboard than anything we’d want to echo while throwing our hands up in a club.

Big Boi’s long-awaited, flamboyantly-titled album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is due next week, but as it always is in this day and age of the Internet, we’re able to hear pretty much the whole thing before its official release. The LP features more than a dozen guest artists (sadly, no Andre 3000), and we’ve got two of the most interesting collaborations behind the jump—give a listen to “Hustle Blood” featuring Jamie Foxx, and “Be Still” with Janelle Monae.

Big Boi feat. Jamie Foxx - Hustle Blood

This smooth, dreamy (and even melancholy) R&B jam has Jamie Foxx rap-singing sensually in a breathy verse. “Daddy said when you hit 18  that you would never marry, but didn’t know you fell for a hustler.” The subject matter is a little depressing—the dude is singing about how he knows he’s hustling some poor girl?—but it’s incredibly catchy.

Big Boi feat. Janelle Monae - Be Still

“Hey man, when’s the last time you went tea-bagging?” isn’t exactly the classiest way to introduce a track featuring the uber-classy Ms. Monae, but the rest of the midtempo, synth-assisted love song makes up for it. This is basically all Janelle’s track, crooning both the verses and the chorus, with Boi popping up now and again.

Michael Lynche was given the boot on American Idol last night—a fact which should have surprised no one at this point. What was shocking was that Casey James was declared safe while fan favorite Crystal Bowersox landed in the Bottom Two with Big Mike. (Don’t get lazy with the dialing, MamaSox fans!) “You know, it’s been unbelievable, man,” Lynche told host Ryan Seacrest about his Idol journey. He then referenced his near-elimination five weeks back, when the judges used their one-time save on him. “I just sit here right now and I think, I wasn’t even supposed to be here.” Watch how it all played out for Michael after Songs Of The Cinema Week below!

It was movie night at American Idol, and in honor of the contestants singing the hits of the silver screen, we’re breaking out our Roger Ebertometer to judge the contestants, pairing our review with a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down.” Did we say hooray for Hollywood while watching the Top 4 perform, or would we rather just stay in and rent a DVD? Now that our movie metaphor has totally exhausted itself, find out below!

Mentor Jamie Foxx (who also mentored last year’s movie theme night) spent a few bucks over at Cafe Press making t-shirts that read “Contestant” and “Artist” with the intention of giving each Idol the t-shirt they deserve. It’s like those Team Jolie and Team Aniston shirts from a few years ago! Except even more meaningless. Let’s get onto the individiual and duet performances:

Lee DeWyze – “Kiss From a Rose” (from Batman Forever)
Roger Ebertometer: Thumbs down. Lee gets an “artist” shirt from Jamie, which may have been a little bit too premature. Danny Gokey sang this last year during the Hollywood rounds, you may remember, and while Gokey put some soul into his acapella version, Lee… well, okay. We like Lee. We really do. But we are worried about him as a live performer—even if he makes a killer album, the man cannot stay on pitch to save his life. He is always right under or right over the note, and it’s often wince-inducing. Pair that with the fact that every other week his confidence seems to waver, and we have somebody who needs more experience on stage before we trust him as our Idol winner. Or before we would ever pay money to see him perform live.

Michael Lynche – “Will You Be There” (from Free Willy)
Roger Ebertometer: Thumbs sideways? Okay, that’s not a thing. We’ll give him a thumbs up then, because we a) love this underrated Michael Jackson song, and b) Big Mike always gives 100% while performing, even if said performances don’t blow us away. Simon at least gives him props for feeling the song, although he has never heard of Free Willy. ”It’s about a whale,” Mike tries to explain. “And they gotta save it.” Yep, that’s pretty much the plot of the movie (and all its sequels).

Casey James – “Mrs. Robinson” (from The Graduate)
Roger Ebertometer: Thumbs up. Casey performs while sitting on the side of the stage, playing the tiniest guitar we’ve ever seen. (Or is that a cheetah-print ukelele? Either way we want to put a bow on it and cuddle all night long.) We really like this subdued version of this classic Simon and Garfunkel song—Casey changed it up enough to make it his own, and he didn’t even bother going in a vocal range he wouldn’t be comfortable in, making the song fit his voice. It was a great, controlled little number, and the judges don’t care for it at all. And, it turns out, Simon doesn’t know what The Graduate is about, either. Dear God, Simon, have you never seen a movie in your life? I’m decades younger than you and I’ve seen The Graduate. These contestants aren’t singing songs from Lars Von Trier movies, you should know the plot of The Graduate and Free Willy.

Crystal Bowersox – “I’m Alright” (from Caddyshack)
Roger Ebertometer: Thumbs up. Crystal does another great job, though we’re finding ourselves un-wowed with this version of the Kenny Loggins song—maybe because we just expect this from her every week, and she keeps delivering, and there’s a lack of drama (besides her crying during her final note during Inspiration week)? The most interesting part of this segment is Crystal’s boyfriend Tony stands in the audience, wearing American flag parachute pants (we’re hoping ironically).

Michael Lynche and Casey James - “Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman” (from Duan Juan DeMarco)
Roger Ebertometer: Thumbs down—we’ve seen this all before. They might as well be chilling in front of a campfire wasting time. Also, this movie is 15-years old. There wasn’t any other more recent songs they could throw on the list for the contestants to choose from? We seriously wish Casey and Michael had attempted Oscar-winning “Jai Ho,” because then at least it would have been interesting to watch (if not a spectacular mess).

Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze – “Falling Slowly” (from Once)
Roger Ebertometer: Thumbs up. Kris Allen killed this song last year during the same theme night, you may recall, and Crystal and Lee do it justice as well—plus the song was originally recorded as a duet, so it fits being split between a woman and man. But, again, do we really need to hear it again? Last year it felt much more fresh since it was closer to the film’s release date. Honestly, we can’t blame Crystal or Lee for picking this song—they did sing it pretty well (Crystal must have helped Lee stay on pitch) and the chemistry was there, and, most importantly to remember, they have no control over what songs they have to choose from. The judges lap up their duet, and Ellen calls them the new Captain and Tenille. Is that a compliment? Nobody under 17-years old has any idea what Ellen is talking about.

Worst of the Night: Lee DeWyze. We’d say we hope a bagpipe can play you off, but we’re pretty sure you’re not going anywhere. (Sorry, Big Mike, you’re on borrowed time, anyway.)

Quote of the Night: “Yes, as a matter of fact, I have loved a woman.”—Ellen after Casey and Michael’s duet. Funny… unfortunately she didn’t follow it up with an actual critique of their performance.

Final Thoughts: Do we really need repeat mentors? No offense to Jamie Foxx, who is actually pretty engaging as a mentor, but the show stops being fresh when we feel like we’ve seen the same thing over and over again. Aren’t there enough people out there experienced enough in their respective field of music or entertainment (and with projects that need promoting) that producers can book so we can get some variety year to year? Or even this season alone – sorry, Shania, you’re great, but a guest judge and a mentor in one season? Victoria Beckham posing as guest judge twice? Was there no one else to approach? 

Same goes for song choices. There are tons more recent songs they could have let the Top 4 choose whether to sing or not: “That’s How You Know” from Enchanted, “When She Loved Me” from Toy Story 2, “Save Me” from Magnolia, just to rattle off a few Oscar-nominated songs. How about going way, way out of the box and actually choosing a song from a Lars Von Trier movie Simon would have never heard of, ”I’ve Seen It All” from Dancer in the Dark? (My God, if somebody succesfullly covered Bjork on this show we’d die of shock.)

Justin Timberlake continues to exasperate us by spending his time not recording a new album. His latest distraction? The NBA playoffs. Specifically, JT is taking the time to shoot promos for the basketball league. There he sits, chilling in the back of a limo with Jamie Foxx, swapping playoff picks. (Thanks?) The jock-friendly artists, both clad in monkey suits, then partake in the first (or at least the best) black-tie one-on-one you’ve ever seen (with Jamie and Justin’s collaboration “Winner” playing in the background, to nobody’s surprise). Watch the promo below, and if basketball terminology goes over your heads, just watch it to see two hot dudes in tuxes breaking a sweat.

After all the press coverage and buildup over the past two weeks, the 25th anniversary update of “We Are The World” finally premiered Friday during the opening of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Jamie Foxx introduced the Paul Haggis-directed video for the charity song by asking viewers to “do more than just watch—reach deep into your hearts and give anything you can, as we have, for Haiti.”

Across the pond in the United Kingdom, the all-star Helping Haiti charity cover of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” went on sale this week, and is expected to top the British chart this Sunday after selling over 200,000 copies during its first two days of release alone.

While we wish Foxx would come out from under the AutoTune, we can understand his preference for it. “Blame It,” off 2008′s Intuition, ranked as one of the jams of the year (and may yet deliver Foxx his first Grammy Award) in spite of vocal treatments so heavy it’s hard to tell Foxx from his collaborator T-Pain. We much prefer his vocals on Body‘s other “buzz” single, the slow jam “Speak French,” featuring Gucci Mane.

But “Straight To The Dance Floor,” written by Rico Love and produced by Los Da Mystro, may be the one to watch.
