Katharine McPhee Sings A New ‘Smash’ Song: “20th Century Mambo”
Thu Feb 9 2012 by Becky Bain
In Monday's upcoming episode of Smash, "Callbacks", we see Katharine McPhee (who plays aspiring actress Karen) continue the arduous audition process as she vies for the lead role of Marilyn Monroe in a musical based on the movie star's life. In the new number "20th Century Mambo", McPhee dances, sings and vamps as she transforms from sweet brunette Norma Jean into blonde bombshell Marilyn. Based on the pilot, we definitely thought Karen's competitor Ivy (played by Megan Hilty) had the part in the bag — now we're not so sure. Preview Kat's big number below! More »

Katharine McPhee is anything but predictable. Since her days on American Idol, the Los Angeles-born beauty has tried everything from music and film to television and becoming a blonde (and a pixie one at that). We caught up with McPhee recently to discuss a few of her favorite things (her beauty tip truly is a must-see) and to test how well she knows her own path to stardom. Watch below to see if she recalls past Idol performances, film costumes and more in our This Is Your Career! Quiz video. More »

Katharine McPhee On Her Best Beauty Product, Dish She Cooks: Favorites
Mon Nov 21 2011 by Kim Persse
Favorites is our recurring video series on the personal preferences of the pop artists who inspire us. Because the artists we love love stuff too.
Katharine McPhee has been working very hard since her days competing on American Idol. The sexy starlet has tackled the recording studio with three albums; the silver screen with roles in films like 2008's The House Bunny and this year's Shark Night 3D; and now she's on a quest for TV domination with her role in Smash, NBC's new Steven Spielberg-produced TV series premiering on February 6. Centered around a group of actors putting on a musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe, Smash is a platform for McPhee — whose character plays Monroe — to indulge in everything she's passionate about in her career: singing, dancing, acting and being on a Broadway stage.
We recently sat down with the lovely and talented singer/actress to talk more about the things she loves. From her skincare secret weapon to the album she can't get enough of, learn all about what makes her tick! More »

Today In ‘Idol’: Katharine McPhee Finds An Unlikely Duet Partner
Tue May 4 2010 by Becky Bain
:: Weirdest collaboration of the day—Katharine McPhee shares a duet with Chuck star Zachary Levi on the Kara DioGuardi-penned ballad "Terrified." He's got a pretty good voice, too, but we're not sure why they rerecorded this song when Jason Reeves (who appears on the album track), was just as good. [EW]
:: Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson say American Idol is helping the music industry "evolve." They better support the show, since their songs are some of the most overplayed songs on the show. [Idol Tracker]
:: We all know American Idol needs to be fixed or it will be devoured alive by The X Factor. But how? Muzzle Ryan Seacrest, for starters. [Idol Chatter]
:: After the jump, Siobhan rocks Letterman with "Paint It Black" while wearing one gigantic, crazy necklace anda pair of curious leggings we can't stop staring at. (And neither can Dave.) [MJs Big Blog] More »

Today In ‘Idol’: Miley Cyrus (Yes, That Miley Cyrus) To Mentor Contestants
Mon Mar 22 2010 by Becky Bain
:: So much for anybody covering Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now"—this week's theme has been changed from "Teen Idols" to "Billboard #1 Hits." There's good news, though, for Andrew Garcia—"Baby... One More Time" is still permissable! Andrew, time to break out your guitar and pigtails and do your spin on yet another female-oriented pop song. [VFTW]
:: Although the theme this week no longer relates to teen music sensations, American Idol producers have still tapped lovebirds Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato to perform, and have asked Miley Cyrus to mentor the contestants. And that's the one and only time anyone will deliberately seek Miley Cyrus as a mentor for anybody. [MJsbigblog]
:: A truck driver hauling gear for Carrie Underwood's Play On tour died in a car crash Saturday morning, and Carrie dedicated her song "Temporary Home" to the fallen truck driver in her concert that night. [Idol Chatter]
:: The official American Idol magazine is back on sale after a three-year break, so now even going to the bathroom doesn't have to stop you from reading and discussing Idol coverage. [Idol Tracker]
:: Katharine McPhee is certainly making the rounds around Hollywood as an actress, but don't forget that the girl is first and foremost a singer. After the jump, check out the behind-the-scenes of Katharine McPhee's "Had It All" music video. More »
