Yee haw! The stars country music took the stage last night at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena last night for the 2010 CMT Music Awards. It was an evening full of the unexpected. (It also didn't help that a fan was yakking on her cell phone while he was trying to perform.) Behind the jump, watch the version that finally satisfied him. More »

PHOTOS: ‘Idol’ Evolution

Fri Jan 8 2010 by Erika Brooks Adickman

Once upon a time, in June of 2002, an oddball new program spun off from a British singing talent show debuted on U.S. airwaves. American Idol promised contestants a chance to fulfill dreams of stardom. But who knew it would become the ultimate TV juggernaut, the show that would hijack Americans’ Tuesdays and Wednesdays for months at a stretch? And who knew it would have such power to transform people so powerfully? A former waitress from small-town Texas becomes a pop megastar. A geeky (but uppity) kid named Clay emerges as a heartthrob. Over the past eight seasons we’ve noticed a theme: Idol isn’t just a talent competition, it’s a makeover show. And it’s not just for the singing contestants — judges and even Ryan have undergone radical changes since Idol arrived. Check out the most dramatic metamorphoses in Idol history. More »

Five Female Pop Stars Who Should Definitely Not Fill Paula Abdul’s “American Idol” Chair

Thu Aug 6 2009 by Maura

Fox today outlined its plans for replacing Paula Abdul at the American Idol judges’ table, and somewhat unfortunately, they involve retaining the four-judge panel that was instituted on the show last year. The show is going to bring in guest judges! “Our intention is to have guest judges be female pop stars, female performers,” Fox Entertainment chair Peter Rice said. Signed for next season so far: A & R expert Katy Perry and tabloid fixture Victoria Beckham. Even though Beckham is more known for her stick-thin figure and the clothes she hangs on it these days, she was a Spice Girl, right? Uh, sure. Any Idol watcher knows that Fox will likely make some sort of misstep in selecting other people to round out the panel; as a sort of pre-emptive strike against that, we offer up five female pop stars whose presence would make the new-look Idol judges’ table even more farcical than it already is.
