Kelly Rowland Gets Australians To Think They Can Dance

10:03 AM on Fri Mar 12 2010 by Robbie Daw
While Beyonce is currently wowing the masses—who probably never thought they'd again see a big-budget, nine-minute music video again—with "Telephone," her former Destiny's Child partner in divadom Kelly Rowland has been trekking around Down Under. Last night she performed "When Love Takes Over" on Australia's So You Think You Can Dance and got the whole audience on its feet to cut a rug. More »

Is Ne-Yo Offering Kelly Rowland A “Halo” Of Her Own?

1:45 PM on Thu Mar 11 2010 by Robbie Daw
There's a pretty rad Ne-Yo demo called "Halo" floating around there, and now there's speculation that it's being recorded by Kelly Rowland—who recently rocked Sydney's Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras with Adam Lambert—for her upcoming Universal Motown album. As you might imagine, Kelly will probably opt to change the title of the track, since her fellow Destiny's Child alum Beyonce just happened to land a decent-sized smasheroo with a tune called "Halo" last year.  After the jump: Ne-Yo's demo, now called "Tonight." PHOTOS: Kelly Rowland And Adam Lambert Hit Mardi Gras—Sort Of

12:12 PM on Thu Mar 4 2010 by Erika Brooks Adickman

Kelly Rowland and Adam Lambert made the long trek to the land down under for the annual Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, the biggest LGBT festival of its kind. The two are set to perform on Saturday, March 6th, but headed out last night to the Mardi Gras Party Media Call at Sydney’s Kit & Kaboodle. Check out pics from last night and decide who brought the most glam to the Media Call. And because we couldn’t help ourselves, we added a few pics Kelly took of her excursion in Sydney as well. Even big pop stars can still be cheesy tourists. More »

Kelly Rowland And Michael Buble Vs. Take That: “How Deep Is Your Love”

3:27 PM on Mon Mar 1 2010 by Robbie Daw
Many fine artists have covered Bee Gees' late '70s chart-topper "How Deep Is Your Love"—from The Temptations and The Bird & The Bee to, er, Donny Osmond. And now Kelly Rowland has taken a stab at the Saturday Night Fever ballad, with a little help from jazz stud Michael Buble.

Now, up to this point, the only version that's come close to the giddy pop heights of the original has been the 1996 cover by Take That—mostly due to its creepy, Misery-esque video. Does Kelly and Michael's rendition hold a candle to the That's? Head below to find out. More »

Kelly Rowland And David Guetta Tear The Roof Off ‘Lopez Tonight’

8:04 AM on Fri Jan 29 2010 by Robbie Daw
Grammy nominees Kelly Rowland and David Guetta hit up Lopez Tonight on Thursday and turned the joint into a pulsating dance club. The pair are nominated for Best Dance Recording for "When Love Takes Over," and Guetta is up for Best Remixed Recording for the track, as well. So will love take over the recording academy, and find the French DJ and former Destiny's Child diva earning some Grammy gold on Sunday? More »

David Guetta: The Idolator Interview

1:48 PM on Wed Jan 27 2010 by Robbie Daw
The Grammy countdown has begun, and five-time nominee David Guetta is gearing up for a flight from Paris to L.A. "I'm going to go eat, pack and take the plane," he tells Idolator while in transit. "I made a few tracks, because every time I'm in Los Angeles I'm meeting artists. So I'll have a little bit of a studio session and then the awards."

Guetta's global floorfiller "When Love Takes Over," which features a booming Kelly Rowland on vocals, is up for Best Dance Recording and Best Remixed Recording, while his LP One Love snagged a nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album. But the sought-after French DJ has earned acclaim far beyond clubland and the Academy’s dance audience: he also received a Record Of The Year nod for producing the Black Eyed Peas' inescapable radio hit "I Gotta Feeling," and thus could also share in the wealth if the band wins a statue for Album Of The Year for The E.N.D.

Guetta, who recently whipped up material for Madonna's upcoming album, explains that what he loves about working with such varied artists "is that our music can reach people that are not even from hip hop or electro" scenes. "It's just music that touches your soul." And now he says he and the Black Eyed Peas have yet another "I Gotta Feeling"-sized smash waiting in the wings. Head below to read our full interview with David Guetta! More »

Blast To The Past With Destiny’s Child Song Leaks

10:43 AM on Fri Jan 8 2010 by Becky Bain
Could the recent spurt of leaks of unreleased Destiny's Child songs be some sort of kooky marketing campaign to promote the girl group's long-rumored reunion? We know it seems crazy. There's a better chance that Justin Timberlake will decide he'd be better off reuniting with N Sync or that Robbie Williams will take an interest in whatever the other members of Take That are up to. Plus, we've been hearing these rumors for awhile with no real evidence of movement toward a bona fide DC reunion. Still, these two leaked tracks are a joyful reminder of the decade we just left behind. Listen to "Life Like This" and "Twirk" after the jump. More »

PHOTOS: Best Pop Song Of 2009 — In Pieces

7:38 AM on Thu Dec 31 2009 by Idolator Staff

If there has been any unifying idea or theme to music in the 00s, it is surely the squashing, the shriveling, the incredible shrinking of music itself. Out went the album, in came the single (and the ringtone!). As our attention spans raced toward :00, it sometimes felt like we had traded in big anthems and sweeping melodies for fragments, the hook, the bits and pieces. Maybe that’s all that we have left now that everyone controls their own playlist. But is that so bad? At this moment in pop history, it seems appropriate to look at music, and enjoy it, for the parts as well as the sum total. We’re not out to create a mashup (DJ Earworm did that well enough, thanks), but we’ve been taking a good look at the best song bits of the year.

Check out our picks for the best work of 2009 in eight key categories — are these just eight great ideas? Pieces of one imaginary masterpiece? Or a little of both? More »

Scott Storch Distances Himself From His Recent Past

6:30 AM on Thu Sep 24 2009 by Maura

Superproducer-in-foreclosure Scott Storch is apparently gearing up for the “redemption” arc of his career, what with this Details profile in which he talks about his cocaine habit (which was sparked by a friend sharing a line with him in 2005), his favorite hangover cure during the flush days (buying an expensive car), and all the sex he’s had. While he doesn’t explain his often awful taste in eyewear, he does disavow pretty much all the music he made during his binge-and-sniff period, which includes decade-of-decadence curios like the Paris Hilton solo album and Brooke Hogan’s first singing effort: More »

Destiny’s Child Reunion Rumor Falls Flat On Its Face

10:30 AM on Wed Sep 2 2009 by Maura

THE RUMOR: A Destiny’s Child reunion? Of course, according to a UK tabloid reporter who ran into Michelle Williams at some party! “It definitely will happen,” she apparently told him during the reveling. “We’re sisters, we love each other and we want to work on the future of Destiny’s Child.”

TRUTH THRESHOLD: Unfortunately, none of the members of DC are ready for this particular jelly. More »
