Like everything she does, Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime performance was both celebrated and criticized. Kelly Clarkson’s rendition of the national anthem, on the other hand, was universally praised — the same week her single “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” knocked Adele out of the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top 100 chart and held Madonna’s new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin”, at #3. Also in the football spirit, Lady Gaga posed topless with a pigskin before unleashing the tour poster, stage design and first few tour dates for her upcoming Born This Way Ball. See what our readers had to say about all this after the jump.

:: TallStack was super positive about Madonna’s Super Bowl spectacular: “It was the best halftime show in a long time, but Vogue and Like a Prayer greatly out-shined her newest single.”

:: Marty hoped the Material Girl would turn in a “more original” and “shocking” show, and was ultimately disappointed, saying: “Her voice sounded like she had in the 80s – which is good, she didn’t sing live, her dance was a bit awkward, the pom pom segment was corny at its best, the Like A Prayer scene was pretty much predictable (how many times do we have to see a gospel choir singing behind her).”

:: Danny was super enthusiastic about Kelly Clarkson’s chart domination this week: “Stronger over Give me all your loving ANY DAY!!!! Kelly deserves to be #1. Madonna is singing a song Britney should have done 8 years ago.”

:: Juvi had some ideas about the way Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball stage design would unfold: “I think it will be a “Living Stage” like the “Living Dress”. When she starts to sing Electric Chapel the “Kingdom” will break down than Bloody Mary and Judas and than an intro. EPIC.”

And when Lady Gaga tweeted the Born This Way Ball tour poster, Juvi had this to say: “I like it. It could have been better maybe she does more than one, but the poster is not what a tour is about, it’s about the artist.”

:: Zack Leedy already has his paws up for Mother Monster, “Just like anything “Mother Monster”, Lady Gaga does this stage is EPIC. I cannot wait until the next tour. Paws up!”

:: Jonathan Williams was not impressed, calling the artwork “cheap looking,” and raised an interesting proposition: “Couldn’t she hire one of the little monsters to design her poster?” (We think that’s a great idea!)

:: SLLC7 saw this meaning in Mother Monster’s poster: “Gaga needs to look monstrous because she is symbolizing that it doesn’t matter who you are or how you look like, everyone is accepted into her world. Asking gaga not to be weird or creepy is like asking Britney Spears or Madonna not to lip-sync.”

Madonna’s Stalker Caught, Returned To Mental Hospital http://idolator.com/6175831/madonna-stalker-caught http://idolator.com/6175831/madonna-stalker-caught#comments Fri, 10 Feb 2012 20:43:36 +0000 Becky Bain http://idolator.com/?p=6175831 More »]]> 68286319Madonna can continue her MDNA press tour in peace. The pop star’s stalker, who broke out of the Los Angeles mental hospital at which he resides, has been caught. Robert Dewey Hoskins was incarcerated in 1996 for stalking Madonna, trespassing on her property and threatening to kill the pop star, along with her assistant and bodyguard. He was convicted and spent ten years behind bars. After his release, Hoskins was arrested for vandalism in July 2011 and was placed into the Metropolitan State Hospital — which be broke out of last week.

Hoskins was caught Friday afternoon in Los Angeles. There are no details as to where he was or how he spent the past week.

The 54-year-old-man is described by the police as “a very psychotic man when not taking his medication and has very violent tendencies.” E! Online reports that he had also been sending death threats to Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry.

Madonna’s Interview With Ryan Seacrest: 7 Classy Quotes http://idolator.com/6175382/madonnas-interview-with-ryan-seacrest-7-classy-quotes http://idolator.com/6175382/madonnas-interview-with-ryan-seacrest-7-classy-quotes#comments Fri, 10 Feb 2012 18:19:13 +0000 Robbie Daw http://idolator.com/?p=6175382 More »]]> Madonna Super Bowl pom pomThis morning, our Pop & Fizz leader Madonna called in to KIIS-FM’s On Air With Ryan Seacrest to have a chat with the American Idol host about her recent Super Bowl Performance, thoughts on M.I.A. giving America the F.U. via her middle finger and her upcoming album MDNA. And, lucky for you, we listened to the full interview and sussed out the seven classiest quotes that the “Give Me All Your Luvin’” singer gave. Catch them below, pop fanatics!

7 Classy Quotes From Madonna’s On Air Interview With Ryan Seacrest

* On her final Super Bowl song, “Like A Prayer”: “It was actually very emotional for me. I almost starting crying. I felt an incredible sense of — I know it sounds cheesy, but — warmth, love, support. Everybody turning on their flashlights, holding up their phones, to see the entire stadium lit up like candles with the video-mapping over us and the choir singing around me — it was like a religious experience.”

* “My daughter is in love with Tom Brady.”

* On working with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.: “Nicki and M.I.A. are cool because they have youthful energy, and I think they’re badasses in their own rite.”

* On choosing LMFAO for the Super Bowl performance: “To me they’re just pure joy and they crack me up. They have an incredible sense of humor. I was so happy when they agreed to do the show with me. And strangely enough, their song and my song ‘Music’ are in the same key, so it was really easy to do that mashup. They were super easy to work with.”

* On choosing Cee Lo Green for the Super Bowl performance: “I love Cee Lo. I’ve always loved his voice. I feel like he’s someone really up and coming, interesting.”

* On M.I.A.’s bird-flip: “To tell you the truth, I didn’t even know about it. I actually didn’t know until I left… I found out about it in the elevator on my way to go to the car to get to the airport. I was really surprised. I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t happy about it, because for me — I understand it’s kind of punk rock and everything — but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity. It seemed negative. It’s one of those things that’s such a teenager, kind of, irrelevant thing to do in one respect. But on the other, there was such a feeling of love and unity there. What was the point? It was just out of place.”

* On MDNA: “[There are] a lot of uptempo [tracks], but I also have three ballads, which I haven’t done in awhile. So, something for everyone.”

Madonna also mentions that she’s shooting her video for MDNA track “Girls Gone Wild” soon (so, her next single?), and shot down the rumor that Britney Spears will appear on the song.

Will Britney Spears Be Featured On Madonna’s ‘MDNA’? http://idolator.com/6174252/britney-spears-madonna-collaboration-mdna http://idolator.com/6174252/britney-spears-madonna-collaboration-mdna#comments Thu, 09 Feb 2012 23:40:22 +0000 Idolator Staff http://idolator.com/?p=6174252 More »]]> Madonna Britney SpearsIs Madonna collaborating once again with her “Me Against The Music” pal (and onstage smooch partner) Britney Spears? Possibly! A leaked album sleeve was posted on Brit fan site Breathe Heavy, with the “Criminal” singer featured on opening track, “Girls Gone Wild”. That’s the same tune included in that recent MDNA megamix, as well as the one Joe Francis’ is filing a lawsuit over. Chances are both parties will be able to benefit from the “Girls Gone Wild” phrase if Brit-Brit really does appear on the song. MTV reports that Madge’s reps haven’t confirmed or denied a new collaboration with Spears, so we’d say there’s at least a 50% chance that this is actually happening.

Kelly Clarkson Covers Madonna’s “Crazy For You” http://idolator.com/6172851/kelly-clarkson-covers-madonna-crazy-for-you http://idolator.com/6172851/kelly-clarkson-covers-madonna-crazy-for-you#comments Thu, 09 Feb 2012 17:09:58 +0000 Robbie Daw http://idolator.com/?p=6172851 More »]]> Kelly Clarkson covers Madonna Crazy For You February 2012Current chart ruler Kelly Clarkson was apparently in the mood for a little old-school Madonna recently. (Not surprising, given that the two performed at the Super Bowl on Sunday.) During a tour stop in Bossier City, Louisiana, the Stronger singer took a fan request and belted out a cover of Madge’s ballad “Crazy For You”. Kelly said of the audience pick, “We’ve been doing this on tour, because I got here from fans voting for me ten years ago. So it’s still cool that you all are involved in my show.”

“This is like a couples skate song,” Clarkson said before launching into the second verse of “Crazy For You”. Actually, Kelly, we remember it most from the Sunday night request and dedication on the local Top 40 station.

Not a bad job. We can actually see Kelly turning out a decent recorded cover version of Madonna’s ballad — and now we’re wondering why more people haven’t tackled this song!

What do you think of Kelly’s rendition of “Crazy For You”?

Kelly Clarkson Topples Adele On Hot 100, Madonna Debuts In The Top 20 http://idolator.com/6171961/kelly-clarkson-adele-hot-100-madonna http://idolator.com/6171961/kelly-clarkson-adele-hot-100-madonna#comments Wed, 08 Feb 2012 22:01:24 +0000 Robbie Daw http://idolator.com/?p=6171961 More »]]> Madonna Give Me All Your Luvin'Adele may still be the top diva on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart, but over on the Hot 100 she’s been bumped off by Kelly Clarkson. The two Grammy nominees trade places as Adele’s third 21 single “Set Fire To The Rain”, which previously spent two weeks at #1, now cedes the peak position to Super Bowl singer Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”. This marks the American Idol winner’s third chart-topper, following 2002’s “A Moment Like This” and 2009’s “My Life Would Suck Without You”.

Meanwhile, Madonna’s lead MDNA single “Give Me All Your Luvin’” crashes into the Hot 100 at #13, giving the Super Bowl halftime performer her 56th single to appear on the chart and her first Top 20 hit since “4 Minutes” reached #3 in 2008. Billboard notes that Madge is now tied with Dionne Warwick for the second-most appearances on the Hot 100 among women. They both trail Aretha Franklin, who’s racked up 73 entries on the main singles chart.

“Give Me All Your Luvin’” sold 115,000 digital downloads between Friday morning, when it was made available for purchase on iTunes, and Sunday evening’s chart cut-off time. Currently the song is perched at #7 on iTunes.

Madonna’s first appearance on the Hot 100 came nearly 30 years ago, when “Holiday” peaked at #16 in 1983.

Ricky Martin And Naya Rivera Cover Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita” On ‘Glee’ http://idolator.com/6171831/glee-ricky-martin-madonna-la-isla-bonita-on-glee http://idolator.com/6171831/glee-ricky-martin-madonna-la-isla-bonita-on-glee#comments Wed, 08 Feb 2012 20:21:32 +0000 Becky Bain http://idolator.com/?p=6171831 More »]]> ricky martin gleeLast night, Ricky Martin tangoed his way onto the top of our list of favorite Glee guest stars ever, playing Spanish language teacher (and former “tooth model”) Mr. Martinez. In addition to performing “Sexy And I Know It”, the Puerto Rican superstar and the show’s resident Latina Naya Rivera performed a duet of Madonna’s 1987 single “La Isla Bonita”. Ricky and Naya are en fuego during their number, but the real draw is to watch Mr. Schuester squirm in his seat as he faces the fact that his skills as both a Spanish teacher and a glee club coach have been trumped. Watch below.

Mr. Schuester responds to Mr. Martinez and Santana’s performance by dressing as a matador and launching into a flamenco-inspired version of “A Little Less Conversation.” It’s too embarrassing to post here, so go here if you want to facepalm en espanol.

In related Madonna news, Ryan Murphy is considering doing yet another tribute episode in honor of the singer – this time with the Queen of Pop appearing in the episode. “I want to do another Madonna episode, but I want Madonna to be on it,” Murphy told Andy Cohen during his appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens After The Show. “She says she would do it.”

But how? Would Madonna appear in dream sequences like Britney Spears did during her tribute episode? Would she be cast as a judge at regionals? Become the new adoptive mother of Quinn’s baby? So many options!

Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die debuts just behind Adele, at #2, with 77,000 copies sold out of the gate. Last night she performed a small set at Los Angeles music store Amoeba Records.
