Adele Tops Final 2011 Album, Single Sales Lists

Wed Jan 4 2012 by Robbie Daw
No one should really be surprised that Adele ruled both single and album sales in 2011. Her sophomore album 21 is currently #1 on Billboard's Top 200 for a 14th non-consecutive week, and, when all was said and done, it sold 5.82 million copies last year — the most any album has sold since 2004, when Usher's Confessions moved 7.98 million copies. Likewise, "Rolling In The Deep" capped off '11 at 5.81 million, marking the first time a single has topped 5 million paid downloads in a year. See who sold what in 2011 below. More »

Tony Bennett ‘Duets’ PBS Special To Feature Carrie Underwood, Michael Buble

Tue Jan 3 2012 by Robbie Daw
Ahead of this year's Grammys, at which Tony Bennett's Duets II will be competing for the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album award, the legendary crooner's PBS Thirteen's Great Performances special will air on January 27. And, naturally, he'll have some famous faces along for the ride. Those performing with Bennett on the special (which airs at 9 p.m.) include Carrie Underwood, Michael Buble, Queen Latifah, Willie Nelson, John Mayer, Faith Hill and Justin Bieber enthusiast k.d. lang. So far there's no word on whether Lady Gaga will be re-paying the favor to Tony by making an appearance.

Adele Has Her Best Sales Week Ever

Wed Dec 28 2011 by Idolator Staff
Last-minute shoppers gave Adele's 21 one last kick in the pants on the charts ending Christmas Day, which saw the Grammy-nominee's best sales week ever in the 45th week of release. (The disc was stuffed into 399,000 stockings.) That brings 21 up to 5.68 million copies sold, far and away 2011's highest seller (unless Michael Buble miraculously manages to sell over 3 million copies of his holiday LP post-Christmas — highly unlikely). But the SNL performer did manage to claim the charts' top slot for the fifth week running, getting stragglers into the Christmas spirit with 467,000 copies sold, surpassing Lady Gaga's Born This Way to become the year's second highest-selling album. This week Billboard published its final charts dated in the 2011 calendar year. All in all, there were 31 LPs that rose to #1 on the Top 200 in 2011, several of which we highlighted in both our Summer and Fall Music Previews. We dissected the 13 chart-toppers from the first half of the year back in late June. (Adele’s 21 still ruled when all was said and done, with over 5 million copies sold by the end of December.) Now flip through the gallery of the 18 albums that triumphed from July on! More »

Michael Buble Still #1, Adele Has Biggest Sales In A Year Since Usher’s ‘Confessions’

Wed Dec 21 2011 by Robbie Daw
Perhaps Michael Buble's Saturday Night Live appearance, which found him taking part in mock duets with Justin Bieber, Ke$ha and Lady Gaga, gave the Canadian singer's album Christmas an added last-minute boost (not that it needed it) to maintain the #1 position on Billboard's Top 200 for a fourth week? Regardless, with no real competition in the way of big releases last week, the holiday LP sold another 448,000 copies — enough to keep it from budging on the publication's album chart dated December 31, 2011. Michael Buble And Kelly Rowland Duet On “White Christmas”

Mon Dec 19 2011 by Becky Bain
Michael Buble's holiday season hasn't been a lazy one. After releasing his chart-topping Christmas album, filling in for Regis Philbin on Live!, and making audiences swoon and chuckle simultaneously on Saturday Night Live, the crooner is getting into the holiday spirit across the pond in his own TV special, Michael Buble: Home For Christmas. Joining Buble for a big band rendition of "White Christmas" was Kelly Rowland, who not only sounded superb, but looked absolutely radiant in feathery White Swan frock. Watch their saucy performance below! More »

Michael Buble Duets With Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, Taylor Swift Spoofed On ‘SNL’

Mon Dec 19 2011 by Robbie Daw
Michael Buble's Christmas album has quickly become one of the year's best sellers, and, well, Saturday Night Live wasn't about to let this past weekend's musical guest get away without a parody. Actually, it was pretty much every other popular singer at the moment who got the stuffing taken out them in the hilarious mock ad for Buble's faux holiday duets collection. Jimmy Fallon spoofed Sting perfectly, donned a swooping wig and danced around like a hyperactive Justin Bieber and did a dead-on impression of Katy Perry's husband Russell Brand in the clip. More »

Thu Dec 15 2011 by Robbie Daw
Just as Rihanna has been ruling Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart for several weeks with "We Found Love", Michael Buble's holiday offering Christmas has been the leader on the Top 200. Billboard reports that the Canadian crooner is indeed on his way to topping the final album chart of the year next week (dated December 31). More »

Michael Buble Keeps ‘Christmas’ Alive On The Album Chart

Wed Dec 14 2011 by Robbie Daw
This week, the Top 10 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart says goodbye to Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto and Rihanna's Talk That Talk (which drops out after only two weeks in the upper tier). Meanwhile, following his televised A Michael Buble Christmas special last week, Canadian crooner Michael Buble sees his Christmas LP increase its sales by a whopping 64% from the previous frame and maintain its #1 chart position on the strength of 479,000 more copies moved.
