soulja beef is over...or is it?

Ice-T Hated Soulja Boy Well Before Their YouTube Beef

Grandpa Ice-T and young Soulja Boy may have quashed their beef, but a clip of Ice-T bitching about Soulja last October ("Soulja Boy? The fuck is that? It's garbage! And if the dude doesn't like it, I'll punch him in his face.") that recently popped up on YouTube just may reignite it. Not only does it add a violent threat to the mix, it also casts serious doubt on Ice-T's claims that he was being goaded into dissing Soulja Boy on the mixtape that started it all. Even if Soulja ignores this cane shaking, Lil' Mama ("'My lip gloss be popping?' Get the fuck out of here.") and Mims ("We came all the way from Rakim to 'This Is Why I'm Hot'...) may step up to the star of Surviving The Game with some sequel beef. More »

Kylie Vs. MIMS, Part 2: Now With Actual Sound

We don't normally post streams on Idolator, but to follow up on our earlier item about the Kylie/MIMS pairing, here are the two versions of "All I See," one where Kylie struts her stuff by herself and one where the ringtone rapper is glommed on to her song. Was the makeover necessary?

Kylie Minogue Apparently Needs MIMS To Show America Why She's Hot

I've been pretty vocal about my enthusiasm over Kylie Minogue's latest album X, on which she plays vamp and storms Star Wars conventions. It's finally getting a Stateside release; X's April 1 release date is a good five months after it came out overseas, presumably because Minogue's label, Capitol Records, needed to find the perfect guest star to help launch the album on this side of the pond. Mims: "This Is Why I'm An Imbecile"

Somehow trumping T-Pain's "I invented the funny computer voice" nonsense last week, probably because you get the feeling he's actually being dead serious, one-hit-wonder-in-waiting Mims has actually claimed that Kanye jacked the helium-voice sample shtick from him: More »

Idolator's Tribute-Video Treasury Stages A Fray-MIMS Rumble Ed. note: Once again, Idolator intern Kate Richardson scours the video sites, looking for the best fan-made music-video tributes. In this entry, she looks at two very different takes on The Outsiders:

Mims' Label Might Want To Find Less Litigious Sources For Its Clip Art

German fans have to find another place to buy Mims' hit album Music Is My Savior in light of a new lawsuit filed by popular German rapper Bushido over the artwork on the album cover.

According to reports, the suit stems from a similarity between a silhouette of Bushido from the cover of the rapper's Deutschland Gib Mir Ein Mic CD/DVD and the "I" in the logo for Mims' name on the cover of Music Is My Savior.

Mims Would Like You To Know That He Is Why Alex Rodriguez Is Hot

In the world of at-bat music, Mims' "This Is Why I'm Hot" is a dicey proposition; a player who falls into a funk, yet continues to walk out to that music, is basically inviting the crowd to bring on the booing. So it's kind of ballsy for New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who has gotten an inordinate amount of crap from Yankee fans since he joined the team in 2004, to pick the song this year—especially since he seems to have done so by accident: More »

Videodrone: So This Is Why Mims' "This Is Why I'm Hot" Sounded So Familiar

Every time we hear Mims' "This Is Why I'm Hot"—and, considering how often we profile in front of the downstairs bodega nowadays, we hear it a lot—we can't help but think that the song's "I'm hot because you're hot" syllogism sounds so familiar. And it wasn't until a marathon-like purely accidental viewing of the ABC Family network over the weekend that we solved this mini-mystery: Mims lifted the line from the 1989 movie Teen Witch! Or at least he maybe saw the movie when he was ten years old, and it left an impression. Either way, the clip below is proof of the glories of YouTube—just be sure to make it past the opening bicycle-talk scene. If only we could figure out what the name of the song is! More »

Zune Officially Dropping The Whole "Indie Rock" Thing?

Zune's latest party bus is promoting Mims, whose "This Is Why I'm Hot" just dropped to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. (Always on the leading edge, these guys.) More importantly, though, this bus is white—not brown! Is this the sign of a rebranding to come, or did Microsoft get all its Zune-brown paint confiscated by the Austin PD? More »
