Missy Elliott Makes Me Sad

The new single by the Pussycat Dolls, the listless "Whatcha Think About That," features a few cameos by Missy Elliott, who during her bits in the video is forced to mumble inane lines like "Tonight I’m goin out and ain’t comin back / You ain’t gonna get no more pussycat" while standing in close proximity to Nicole Scherzinger and her handmaidens shaking their asses to the track, which sounds kind of like a dessicated take on Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight." Only this time, instead of Whitney belting out every note, we get Scherzinger whinging and preening as Missy drops anemic verses like "Up in the club its just me and my girls / Play like Katy Perry kissin on girls." Sigh. Missy. Katy Perry references and rhyming "girls" with "girls"? Maybe you should get back together with Timbaland—surely whatever he thinks up for you could cause a spark of some sort, right? Speaking of the Super Bowl, apparently Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, and Missy Elliott are good enough to appear in a Diet Pepsi ad during the broadcast, but not good enough to actually do anything beyond stupidly rehashing an old Saturday Night Live skit from 10 years ago. Anyone want to bet on how well Haddaway will fare on next week's Digital Tracks chart as a result of this little bit of ad placement? [Nah Right]

Missy Elliott Set To Sock It 2 U In Multiple Dimensions

Missy has been away for a while, but never let it be said she doesn't know how to make a re-entrance. The Hollywood Reporter reporters: "Walt Disney Studios is creating a stereoscopic 3-D music video combining two of her songs featured in the studio's upcoming 'Step Up 2 the Streets,' which opens Feb. 14. MTV will premiere the video in 3-D on Monday during 'TRL.' Glasses for home viewing will be distributed via various promotions." While we'd still like to see a 3-D take on "Get Ur Freak On" and its rubbernecked loogie hocking, we'll have to settle for this forthcoming video smashing up Missy's newish singles "Ching-A-Ling" and "Shake Your Pom Pom," the culmination of a longtime dream for Elliott: "Missy always wanted to do a 3-D music video, and Disney has done a lot of movies in 3-D." It's not their first foray into 3-D music video, either; after the jump we have a little-seen clip from an earlier, aborted 3-D collaboration between Disney and Missy's longtime production partner Timbaland.
