Google has made the 2001 version of its search index available to celebrate its 10th birthday (it's the oldest version the site had available—see, people, everyone needs to remember to back up their hard drives now and again!), and I figured it would be fun to plug in a few music-related terms and see what pages came up as the top results, and whether or not those pages were housed in the Internet archive known as the Wayback Machine. MTV.com Cleans Up Its Act

Last fall, in an effort to compete with such high-falutin' Internet entities as MySpace and Facebook, MTV launched a newly designed, Flash-obsessed version of MTV.com. It was a major overhaul for the site, and not only was it ugly as all sin, it also took five minutes to load, meaning you had to wait forever to find out the latest scoop on the poolboy from The Hills. A Much-Needed Public-Service Announcement: How To Make MTV's New Website Slightly Less Infuriating

Last October, MTV.com underwent a massive redesign, one that was supposed to help the site compete with the likes of MySpace and Lotsofcrazycrapflashingallatonce.org. And now, after months of trying to navigate the damn thing, we've found a back door: Expand your browser screen as wide as you can, scroll all the way down to the bottom right, and click on "HTML SITE."
