‘Glee’ Gets Bieber Fever, Covers “Baby” And “Somebody To Love”

Mon Feb 14 2011 by Becky Bain
We know that your Monday is already knee-deep in Justin Bieber thanks to the premiere of his movie, the release of his Valentine's Day remix album, and our Grammys coverage (as well as the revolt led by his fans upon poor Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding). But the flow of the river Bieb is still rambling along: in tomorrow's episode, "Comeback", the Glee cast performs two of the tweet-meister's singles, "Baby" and "Somebody To Love", in standard Bieber regalia: bright-c0lored hoodies and hair swoops. Also, Rachel and Mercedes duet on a Rent number, and Puck's new crush Lauren Zizes finally gets a chance to sing. Jump below to listen to tomorrow night's tunes. More »

It’s No Fantasy—Kanye West Is #1 On The Album Chart

Wed Dec 1 2010 by Robbie Daw
When all was said and done, Kanye West's fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ended up with 496,000 copies sold, enough to easily bump festive Scot Susan Boyle's The Gift off #1 position on the Billboard Top 200 chart this week. And even though it's a stretch from the 600,000 copies West hopefully boasted about last week, he still clinches his fourth consecutive #1 album. See how Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Ne-Yo and Ke$ha fared with their new releases below. More »

Weezer Play A Secret Show In L.A. — With A Guest Appearance By Hurley!

Wed Sep 22 2010 by Becky Bain
In celebration of their album Hurley debuting in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 (#6 to be precise), Weezer played an Axe-sponsored secret show in Hollywood last night, and the muse behind their tongue-in-cheek cover art joined the band on the red carpet, as well as on stage for a song. Jump below to watch Jorge Garcia sing along with the boys on the track "Perfect Situation". (Bonus: pop-punk rockers My Chemical Romance also showed up to rock out with Rivers Cuomo, and to remind the crowd they have a new CD coming out this Fall.) More »

PHOTOS: ‘VMAN’ Magazine Shows You How To Dress Like A Pop Star

Tue Jan 26 2010 by Erika Brooks Adickman

This week, VMAN magazine (the Ken to V magazine’s Barbie) shows you how to dress like a pop star as part of their “How To” issue. The photo spread, shot by photographer Mark Abrahams, includes Justin Bieber, Adam Lambert, Gerard and Mikey Way from My Chemical Romance and Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship. While the tips are helpful, remember, individual results may vary. Sporting a shag haircut and a hoodie doesn’t guarantee you’ll score a kiss on the cheek from Rihanna and cause a stampede at malls across America. And eyeliner and an early-Elvis pompadour doesn’t always translate to nearly 500,000 sales on your first album. That said, we’re sure it couldn’t hurt either. More »

Seven Potential Heirs To Ozzy Osbourne’s “Prince Of Darkness” Throne

Fri Oct 31 2008 by Al Shipley

When Ozzy Osbourne declared himself “the prince of fucking darkness” on a 2002 episode of The Osbournes, he may as well have simultaneously relinquished the title. The MTV hit quickly dissolved 30 years’ worth of mystique and danger as it revealed him to be in reality a doddering old family man. But when Ozzy rose to fame in the ’70s, every other rock star had an interest in the occult (or at least Hobbits), and heavy metal was still genuinely thought of as the province of Satanists, not nerdy gearheads. But who could be pop music’s reigning prince of darkness in the era of rock star transparency, when every famous musician has a whiny MySpace blog? Since it’s Halloween, we decided to think of a few options:

Which News Item Will Cause Music Snobs To Complain Louder?

Tue Aug 12 2008 by Maura

The one about the Hold Steady playing a couple of shows in Europe as a support act for Counting Crows, or the one about the new Cure single featuring remixes by 30 Seconds To Mars’ Jared Leto, My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, AFI’s Jade E. Puget, and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump? More »

The Half-Year In Review: Dave Grohl Owns Alt-Rock Airwaves (What Else Is New?)

Thu Jul 17 2008 by Al Shipley

Many people find it hard to tell the great from the godawful when it comes to 21st-century mainstream rock. To help figure out which is which, here’s “Corporate Rock Still Sells,” where Al “GovernmentNames” Shipley examines what’s good, bad, and ugly in the world of rock and roll. This time around, he gives the year’s rock charts a midway-mark overview.

Reggie And The Full Effect End Their Dwarf Invasion

Thu Jun 26 2008 by anthonyjmiccio

For the last ten years, former Get Up Kid and current My Chemical Romance tour keyboardist James Dewees has been releasing albums as Reggie & The Full Effect, cavalierly tossing earnest anthems alongside joke tracks credited to Finnish metal band Common Denominator and ’80s dance-pop nightmare Fluxuation. Rumors are spreading that Dewees is now a full-time member of My Chemical Romance, and his decision to say put Reggie to rest after a final tour is only making the speculation louder. Is this tour really the last chance old school Vagrant-heads will have to hear “Congratulations Smack And Katy” and “Mood 4 Luv?” (And man, does the phrase “old school Vagrant-heads” make me feel weird.)

Daily Mail No Longer Blaming Emo For Emo Suicides

Wed Jun 11 2008 by anthonyjmiccio

It looks like England’s emo protest movement has achieved something after all. In the Daily Mail coverage of the recent suicide of Sam Leeson, a 13-year-old British My Chemical Romance fan, phrases like “emo suicide cult” are noticeably absent, replaced by references to online bullying the teenager received due to his taste in clothes and bands. Hannah Bond’s “emo initiation” scars are randomly brought up at the end of the piece, but the rest of the article is noticeably more sympathetic to sad children wearing eyeliner, even describing YouTube videos from friends damning Bebo bullies for their treatment of the kid. Maybe the staff doesn’t want to have to risk hearing a youth choir sing “The Black Parade” at them again.

My Chemical Romance Fans Serenade The Daily Mail

Mon Jun 2 2008 by anthonyjmiccio

Despite the Daily Mail’s claims that its reportage on the “emo suicide cult” was “balanced, restrained, and above all, in the public interest,” a small herd of darkly dressed teenagers jumped around and sang My Chemical Romance in a creepy “We love you, Conrad” unison within shouting distance of the paper’s offices on Saturday. A group wearing V For Vendetta masks can be seen, and I’d like to believe that they were the members of My Chemical Romance themselves, watching over their vulnerable flock and debating whether or not to call for their throngs of fans to kill themselves as proof of their devotion to the Black Parade.
