Mya Just Can't Catch A Break
"The secret talents of celebrities will remain hidden. CBS is axing its new reality show "Secret Talents of the Stars" after only one episode. The first airing Wednesday had former Star Trek actor George Takei singing 'On the Road Again.' Only 4.6 million people tuned in—and thousands tuned away as the hour continued. The reality show also had Clint Black doing standup comedy and Mya tap-dancing. " Eesh. It's great that Mya wants to sing a song in honor of people, like her mom, who have survived breast cancer. It's even understandable that the song is a gloppy, Kara DioGuardi-penned ballad. But calling the song "My Bra"—and sprinkling the lyrics with such metaphors as "When it's just too hard to make it / Through another day / You're lifting me up / My bra my bra my bra"—just seems like a really, really bad idea, especially when one realizes that a lot of bras out there advertise their ability to not only lift, but separate. The Mya record—last scheduled to come out Sept. 18—now has no release date, which means we can put it right next to Amerie's Because I Love It on the shelf of "phantom albums by R & B singers who are certainly better than Ashanti." [Vibe Confidential]
"Walka Not A Talka" is the first song to escape from Mya's Liberation, which drops in August, and it's a pretty decent track that could have credibly been titled "I'm A Slave 4 U 2 (But Not U2)." We'll probably enjoy it more on the whole when the remix without the seemingly obligatory Snoop Dogg verse—in which he reminds us, yet again, that he enjoys hanging out at clubs and checking out the ladies—drops, but for now, here's a sample:
