Pissing, Shitting, And Cumming With The "Philadelphia Weekly"

Ah, Philadelphia. It's only been two months since I left your slacker ass for New York City, but I'm glad to see that the Philadelphia Weekly is still full of self-righteous rock lunacy. Throughout an irreverent anti-memorial for Harp, former Harp contributor and "punk poet" Steven Wells offers us the transgressive, energetic writing he feels has been sorely lacking in indie music magazines. None of the bodily humors are left behind as he recalls a time when angry lesbain punks were angry lesbian punks and Lester Bangs danced the Charleston on top of the Sears Tower or something. South By Southwest 2008: Let The Bottle-Service-Fed Jerks Descend!

We expect that number to continue to decline."—its longer answer, perhaps unsurprisingly, involves the music industry's woes, the ever-changing role of record labels, and the declining number of outlets where the magazine can be sold. The full goodbye letter after the jump. More »

"No Depression" Stands Athwart Music History

Once again, we present Rock-Critically Correct, a feature in which the most recent issues of Rolling Stone, Blender, Vibe, and Spin are given a once-over by an anonymous writer who's contributed to several of those titles—or maybe even all of them! After the jump, he looks at the most recent issue of alt-country chronicle No Depression: More »
