It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Paper Thin Walls, the insightful, smart online music magazine (
not "blog") that is closing its doors after a two-year run. The editors—Christopher R. Weingarten, Kory Grow, and Jessica Suarez—have compiled a "best and worst of" list that runs the gamut from
being grossed out by Dan Deacon to
covering Deerhoof. (And there are lots of Amy Winehouse jokes in there, too.) [

Paper Thin Walls launched its downloadable 2007 mixtape today, featuring 32 tracks that were, in the minds of its contributors, "the closest thing to a number one that a record label would let us post for free." Among the artists included:
Grinderman,
M.I.A., and
Marnie Stern. And those of you who
think that PTW has its hooks in every bit of music writing on the Internet/are interested in the idea of "full disclosure" should probably know that Jess, Matos, and I were given the bandwidth to throw in our year-end two cents. (See? I was serious about the friend thing!) [

this week's Time name-drop: How can you not be further intrigued by dudes who name one of their bass lines after Joey Buttafuoco—because "it's really oafish and clumsy and this kind of doofus bass line"? [
