April F-F-F-Foolin’: The Following Stories Are Not True, So Don’t Fall For Them (Not That You Would, You Smarty Pants)

Aside from holidays where major news events happen, thus disrupting one’s chance to actually get away from her laptop and have a life, April Fool’s Day is probably the most annoying 24-hour stretch on the professional blogger’s calendar, thanks to everyone on the Internet thinking they’re funny. Despite that not really being true! After the jump, a running tally of pranks from various music-related entities; it’ll be updated throughout the day, because Lord knows I need to do something with all the “comedy” clogging up my RSS reader right now. April Fools' Day is, undoubtedly, and without any sort of competition, my least-favorite day of the entire year. If I don't want to celebrate Valentine's Day, I don't have to; if I don't feel like going out on my birthday, I can stay in. But even if you do everything possible to avoid stupid, pointless, unfunny articles and videos, people will still send them to you ad nauseam. It's as annoying as it is idiotic, which is incredibly.

Project X Pits The Family Against The Critics

rihanna.jpgAs part of Idolator’s continuing effort to geekily analyze every music chart known to man, we present a new edition of Project X, in which Jackin’ Pop editor Michaelangelo Matos breaks down rankings from every genre imaginable. After the click-through, he [hilariously] examines the results of the Idolator Pop Critics Poll Tracks Top 10 with some special help:

By now you’ve seen the critics’ lists of the year’s best music. But what about the folks who really count–the people? In interest of fairness and balance, I’ve decided to take the critics’ choices to some regular folks. That’s right: it’s time once again for this column to exploit my family. MORE »

ABC News Whistled Its Way Through 2007 With Peter, Bjorn, And John

pbjbarf.jpgBecause 2007’s not over for another 11 days, here’s… ABC News’ list of the Top 50 albums of the year. Their No. 1 pick? The 2006 LP by trendy Swedish whistlers Peter, Bjorn, and John, anchored by their evil, evil, don’t-speak-the-name-aloud indie hit. (Oh great. Now it’s in my head! Fuck!) No word yet on Headline News’ take on the raging “In Rainbows before or after Neon Bible” controversy, the Discovery Channel’s picks for the year’s best hip-hop, or Hannity and Colmes‘ opinions on M.I.A. But we’ve got our ears open for you.

THE GOOD: I really hope they’re playing PJ Harvey’s White Chalk (No. 11) in the Good Morning America green room right now.
THE BAD: A cynical person might say that this list is washed whiter than a polar bear after an asshole bleaching. But who wants to be cynical so close to the holidays?
THE WHAAAA? ABC News’ list is unsurprisingly newsy. For instance, we learn that Kristin Hersh “sounds like a female Kurt Cobain.” MORE »
