Alexandra Burke Teams Up With Pitbull As She Eyes The U.S. Market

10:56 AM on Mon Mar 8 2010 by Robbie Daw
To date, British singer Alexandra Burke has visited the top of the UK chart three times—with her 2008 X Factor coronation song, "Hallelujah," her fall 2009 hit "Bad Boys" and as part of the Helping Haiti "Everybody Hurts" charity single. (That photo is of Alexandra recording her vocals for the latter.) But with her sights now set on the American market, Burke is retooling some of her previous songs by slapping rappers on them.

Case in point: "All Night Long," a track from the singer's UK album Overcome, has now been worked over and features Pitbull in the mix. Hear it below! More »

How Did Cypress Hill Team Up With Marc Anthony For “Armada Latina”? We Need To Know

2:00 PM on Thu Feb 25 2010 by Becky Bain

Cypress Hill is returning to the music scene after a six-year break, and we think they've gone truly insane in their collective membrane after listening to "Armada Latina," a new track from their upcoming album Rise Up. The only thing more bizarre than featuring Marc Anthony crooning en español and Pitbulll spitting verses on the same track? How about using a 41-year old folk song's catchy closing riff as the main hook?

The band samples Crosby, Stills & Nash's lush multi-part classic, "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," a song that was released roughly around the same time that all four members of Cypress Hill were born. We hate to say this, but there are so many disparate influences on this track, you kind of wonder whether Cypress Hill was smoking weed when they made this. But it's not the train wreck you'd expect. Hear it below.

Jennifer Lopez Enters The Flop-Record Protection Program

5:30 PM on Wed Oct 7 2009 by Maura

Apparently Jennifer Lopez is still worried that the stench of failed recording artist is still lingering over her, even though it’s been a full two years since her last album Brave dropped and subsequently sank like a stone. Her new single, the Pitbull-assisted “Fresh Out The Oven,” isn’t credited to Jennifer Lopez, or even to J. Lo; instead, the song is “by” the anonymous, uncomfortably shod “Lola,” who’s MySpace besties with the likes of Beyonce, Lady GaGa, and Lindsay Lohan. Will this identity shift result in Sasha Fierce-sized success, or is this project going to be J. Lo’s very own The Life Of Chris Gaines? Clip after the jump. More »
