We come across new artists each and every day, but sometimes we're undecided whether a particular act is worth making a fuss over. So we're leaving it up to you, our readers, whether we should keep tabs on a rising artist, or leave their tunes behind (or at least let them stew a bit longer before we give them another chance).
Today's
You Be The Judge entry is Houston rapper Lil Playy — yes, that's "Playy" with two Y's — who penned the hook on Ludacris' Grammy-nominated
"My Chick Bad" and is featured on Kelly Rowland's upcoming LP
Here I Am. The 22-year-old MC, who is prepping the release of his
Tour Bus Muzik mixtape, has recorded more than 30 songs with producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, including "Drippin'". Hear it below and let us know if this lil dude is worth playing more than once.

Last night the four semi-finalists from
The Voice took to the stage for the last performance round of Season 1. And in addition to partnering up with their respective coaches for duets, contestants Javier Colon, Dia Frampton, Vicci Martinez and Beverly McClellan all performed original songs, which are now on iTunes (the downloads counted as votes toward tonight's finale for that particular artist). Head below to hear the studio version of each tune, and let us know who you think wound up with the best one.

Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina's
kiss during the
American Idol finale won't be the hottest thing to come out of Season 10. Producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins (the man behind Lady Gaga's
"Telephone", Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" and
literally dozens more hit songs) has been given the task of writing and producing songs for Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and
"Miss Most Shocking Eliminated Contestant" Pia Toscano.

Last week Kelly Clarkson
informed her fans that she'll be recording the last song for her upcoming fifth LP on February 25 and "then we will be releasing the album!” Well, Kell must have several recording sessions lined up this week, because while tomorrow is only the 22nd, producer Rodney Jerkins
tweeted the following this morning: "Taking today to prep the music for tomorrows session with @kelly_clarkson Did a great song for her, can't wait to get her vocal on it!" Consider our heads swimming while wondering if Kelly and Darkchild's collaboration will sound
anything like this!

Following Soulja Boy's
eyebrow-raising claim that he wrote Willow Smith's hit
"Whip My Hair", one of the song's
real writers,
Ronald "Jukebox" Jackson—who's in the fold of Rodney Jerkins' Darkchild Records imprint—has taken aim at the "Pretty Boy Swag" rapper's boastful assertion. Listen to Jukebox's new response rap over the "Whip My Hair" track below—well, unless you're the daughter of Will Smith. Because the language used is kind of NSFW (Not Safe For Willow).

When Rodney Jerkins gets it right with a top notch production, he gets it so, so right. Think Monica's "Angel Of Mine." Or Spice Girls' "Holler." Or Lady Gaga and Beyonce's "Telephone." Or Spice Girls' "Holler" (oh, did we say that one already?). And Shontelle's
"Perfect Nightmare" is another snappy feather for Darkchild's cap, even if the video is of the on-a-tight-budget variety. Watch below.

Though he's been cranking away on Ray J's upcoming
Raydiation LP and prepping material for a project involving
unreleased Michael Jackson music, Rodney Jerkins found the time to hit the studio with Shontelle. The result is "Perfect Nightmare," an upbeat club track that stands in stark contrast to the Barbadian singer's recent ballad
"Impossible." Listen below.

It turns out that "Telephone" wasn't the only track Lady Gaga cranked out in the studio with producer Rodney Jerkins. Today another song called "Reloaded" popped up, featuring Gaga on vocals and a rap interlude by Darkchild. Have a listen to the moody synth jam below the jump.

Producer Rodney Jerkins (aka “Darkchild!”) posted a 50-song medley of some of his biggest hits on his blog, and—damn!—talk about a 8o mph joyride down memory lane.
All of the usual suspects are there (Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine,” Pussycat Dolls’ “When I Grow Up,” Jennifer Lopez’s “If You Had My Love,” Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name”). But there are also the Ohhhh…right! moments, as when we suddenly remembered that Rodney produced the original version of Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” before Thunderpuss got their hands on it.
“Thanks to the fans for all the love and support over the past 15 years,” Jerkins wrote on his blog. “This is a gift from me to you! I hope you enjoy it.”
And fear not—even the Spice Girls’ “Holler” made the cut. Have a listen to the “Darkchild Single Medley 50″ after the jump! More »
