This time, the alleged list is for Guitar Hero World Tour, which is set to come out in October, and some of the songs seem like they'll be fun to try and recreate, particularly "Hot For Teacher." (Who else is looking forward to being America's favorite game show host in the privacy of your own home?) While there are some dubious picks ("Santeria" by Sublime will make any Guitar Hero party approximately 62% more unbearable, for example), there are also a few songs that I would kill to try out (hint, hint)—like "Hold The Line" by Toto, which, as some of you might know, is one of my favorite songs of all time, and Stone Temple Pilots' somewhat underrated "Vasoline." It's the album I have put on for pleasure more than almost any other in the past 12 months.) A few days ago, Ken Braun of Sterns Music emailed that he'd gotten indirect word from a former bandmate that Tabu Ley is in Brussels' St. Luc's Hospital; he hadn't gotten word of his condition. Tabu Ley is in his late 60s and in addition to music has spent several years working in the Kinshasa government; still, nothing has reached English Google as of yet. One British paper that likes to put topless girls on its inside pages seems to think so, claiming that it's hearing stories of fired dancers and mandated days off from rehearsals for the pop singer. If I were her, I'd try and accelerate those negotations as quickly as possible, considering that the economy in that area in particular is souring, and most of the positive business-related stories I've seen coming out of there lately have been about the city's newly booming pawn-shop industry. "Chinese Democracy" Whispers Finally Get Some New Storylines AP06063002126.jpgLast night I got a tip about a video purporting to be footage of someone who works for Rock Band maker Harmonix talking about Chinese Democracy "off the record" at the E3 conference; during the chat, he made outsized claims like a) the album is not only coming out this year, it's going to be made up of not one, but four (?!) CDs; and b) September's Video Music Awards are going to go the big Axl appearance route again, what with MTV being part of the braintrust behind the game. Whether this is at all true, or merely a disinformation campaign that doubles as a shrewd way for the Harmonix employee to punk the "innocent" interviewer who was clearly not turning off his camera during the Axl-sensitive portion of the interview, is for you to figure out, although I think it's somewhat sweet that YouTube's commenting hordes are calling for the clip to be taken down so the dude can keep his job. Video after the jump.

What more is there to say, except "here's hoping Sebastian Bach weighs in on all these rumors soon." Sigh.

Is Alex Rodriguez Madonna's New Boy Toy? There was a time in my life that I felt kinda bad for Alex Rodriguez, who, despite his massive contract, seemed like something of a spaz in the slick shadow of Derek Jeter, causing many a Yankee fan of my acquaintance to believe that he placed some sort of reverse-Ruth curse on the team. (Nothing epitomizes him better than that whole "hey, I'm just hanging out in Central Park with my shirt off" fiasco.) And now, on the heels of him hitting home run No. 534 and the eve of a weekend Yankees-Red Sox series, comes word that A-Rod may be spending his late nights voguing with Madonna. Well, you know, they could have been holding rap sessions about what it's like to have really huge contracts on their backs!

Us found the somewhat threadbare tale, which seems to be mostly corroborated by jawing doormen, important enough to splash across its front page, although the fact that the headline only referred to Rodriguez as a "New York Yankee" must sting—hey, that appellation could also apply to Sidney Ponson! I suppose I should theorize whether or not this little rumor will help Madonna finally sell out Dodger Stadium, but really, I'm just waiting for one of Madonna's exes, confirmed A-Rod loather/stimulant spokesperson Jose Canseco, to weigh in on the whole mess.

Are The Rolling Stones Going To Spin Off To Live Nation's Geezer-Friendly Stable? Yesterday the UK's Observer claimed that the Stones were on the verge of walking away from their problem-riddled label EMI and heading over to Live Nation, which has recently gone on a 360-deal-signing binge that is funneling lots of cash toward big-name artists like Madonna and Jay-Z in exchange for the rights to all of their music-related income streams. Like both those artists, the Stones have been hurting on the record-sales side of things as of late, with their newer studio albums being met by ever-greater indifference from the public—but in a twist, the Live Nation-Stones deal reportedly includes the rights for Live Nation to market the band's lucrative back catalog. Stones flack Bernard Doherty told the press that reports of negotiations with Live Nation are false, but come on, what else is he going to say?

What's most intriguing about this rumor surfacing is its timing. Live Nation made headlines last week after reports surfaced that the 360-heavy strategy was causing strife in the company's upper echelons, with concert promoter Michael Cohl reportedly wanting to make as many as 15 more such deals while chief executive Michael Rapino urged caution in the face of a worsening economy. Ethan Smith noted that Cohl and the Stones actually had a pre-existing relationship in his description of the Cohl-Rapino showdown:

The battle that has played out in recent weeks was complicated by Mr. Cohl's threat to take with him stars he says he brought to Live Nation over the years, including the Rolling Stones and U2. In the ensuing discussions, Mr. Cohl was reminded that his employment contract would bar him from competing with Live Nation for eight years if he left.

What if the leaking of this rumor was actually more about Live Nation corporate politicking than anything having to do with making Guy Hands squirm? I'm sure I'm not the only person who idly wondered this.

Tonight's "American Idol" Finale: Madonna? The Jonases? ZZ Top?? With six hours to go until the final episode of this American Idol season, our poll, DialIdol, and Zabasearch are all claiming that David Cook's grunge revivalism has won the Internet version of the show, despite the three judges last night being firmly in the tank for David Archuleta. Whether or not those predictions are correct is an outcome we'll all have to wait many hours for, but in the two hours between the show's opening sequence and the confetti-filled finale, we're going to have lots of entertainment to fill the time (and live-blogging space! what, you thought I was going to miss this?) between commercial breaks. Rumors are flying that Madonna, the Jonas Brothers, and Seal (?!) are going to show up—we've collected a bunch of finale spoilers after the jump.

• Jason Castro has said that one of the guest stars could be known as "codename Virgin Airlines," which could mean Madonna... or it could mean the Spice Girls, who, don't forget, have a Virgin Atlantic jet named after them and are also managed by Idol creator Simon Fuller.
• However, E! is claiming that the biggest star in the world slated to appear on tonight's show is, in fact, George Michael, which makes me wonder if we'll be hearing "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" again.
• Not among the biggest stars in the world, but also scheduled to appear: The Jonas Brothers, Donna Summer, and ZZ Top. Ah, I hope this means Michael Johns will bust out "Tush"!
• Also, Seal, perhaps so Brooke White can sing "Crazy."
• Carrie Underwood will sing her new single, "Last Name," and other Idol contestants from years past will be on hand. Taylor Hicks, alas, will not be one of them, as he's currently bringing the wamp to Italy.
• Nigel Lythgoe is promising another "dead Elvis"-style duet. God, if it's John Lennon doing "Imagine," I'm going to imagine that there's no Fox affiliate on the TV in my living room and switch to Law & Order immediately.
• Lythgoe also hinted to Ryan Seacrest this morning that Jason Castro was going to reprise "Hallelujah" tonight.

Yep, Kanye Might Be Going Completely Insane kanyelikesbasketball.jpgWe used to have daily "Britney=crazy!" news to fill the blogging day, but her time encamped in the psychiatric bunker has reduced the volume of her news output. I just want to take a second to thank Kanye West for picking up the slack. Crazed rants against Entertainment Weekly? Playing Connect Four with other celebrities? Rumored fights with collaborators? Thank you, Kanye, from the bottom of my bloggo heart.

This time, Kanye is rumored to have had it out with Lupe Fiasco, for stealing his rhymes or something:

Word on the curb is that Kanye West threw an epic temper tantrum at the Neptunes studio this weekend.

According to one lil birdie, here's how it went down:

The Neptunes were working on a remix to their single "Everyone Nose" with a verse from Lupe Fiasco. All was going fine until Kanye enters and hears Lupe's verse, which was all too similar to one he had spit not long ago. Ye lost it, accusing Lupe of stealing/finishing his verse — and that Lupe had the opportunity when he'd looked in Kanye's rhyme book previously. Everyone in the crowded room was laughing, thinking it was a joke, but Ye continued on, basically causing a massive, Naomi-worthy row and P had to calm everything down.

We're still fuzzy on how this was resolved but said source tells us all this hateration was part of the reason Lupe was in a rush to get his part of the concert over with yesterday.

While this incident almost seems banal as far as Kanye temper tantrums go, there's a part of me that says we're going to look back on these days and think, "That's when it all started to go wrong for Kanye, wasn't it?"

Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour Rumors Re-Re-Re-Resurface And this time, the person fanning the rumor flames is none other than former Robert Plant fill-in and self-proclaimed "long-time pal" of Jimmy Page David Coverdale, who told the UK's Mirror "I'm expecting a call from Jimmy any day asking my band Whitesnake to support them on their world tour. Am I on board? You bet. Probably worth billions!" Well, more like £250 million, according to the Mirror. The alleged tour, which is now rumored to start in late 2008 or early '09, will supposedly mark the band's 40th anniversary. And hey, if it doesn't work out, perhaps some forward-thinking promoter can book a tour of bands who have claimed to be the Led Zeppelin reunion tour's opening act? I count the Cult, Velvet Revolver, and Whitesnake—surely that could fill at least a thousand seats at an arena. (You could even have Lez Zeppelin open, just to confuse the NME all over again.) MTV Bringing Music Back To Prime Time? mtv_logo.jpgSo Hits is murmuring that MTV is getting back into the music game and launching a new "primetime music variety show" this summer, one that will incorporate video premieres, live performances, and artist appearances. Sounds like TRL, doesn't it? Except it'll air at night and apparently be shot in Los Angeles, the latter of which is sort of worrisome to me because nearly every single piece of programming that has originated from the network's West Coast arm has been notable more for its brain-deadedness than anything else.

Think about it: the New York arm of MTV has had its duds, sure, but even now it has shows like Made and True Life, while MTV shows that are set in Los Angeles have included shows like Singled Out and The Hills and My Own and Let's All Slut It Up For Someone Who Isn't Even That Famous. (The first Los Angeles season of The Real World is a notable exception here, but the "drunken yelling" Hollywood season of the show that's currently going on only shows that said season was an exception to this rule.) I know that I'm going to add this to my DVR as soon as it shows up in my programming guide, but truthfully, I am not optimistic about its music programming being anything resembling good. And the minute it starts trying to push Good Charlotte and Heidi Montag as "featured artists" I'm out.

I'm hoping that this means I'll soon be heading to my local multiplex to see a Drumline 2, only it's also going to bring all the characters from Glitter (especially the disappearing cat!) into its world, have an awkward unplanned pregnancy "B" storyline, and end with a marching-band performance of "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On." DUI Daddy Richie Sambora To Do Rock Of Love? Richie Sambora should be visiting Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab, but it looks like he'll be hitting up a dozen floozies for the love and support that Heather Locklear and Denise Richards couldn't provide instead. Yes, that's right: The Bon Jovi guitarist will allegedly replace Bret Michaels for season three of Rock Of Love. The bandanna-wearing Poison frontman claims that he's really found love with season two winner Ambre Lake, which means that his schedule is clear for him to turn his attentions to Look What The Cat Dragged In, a sitcom on MyNetwork TV about a party-hearty rocker who moves in with his uptight lawyer brother in Beverly Hills, played by Alan Ruck. Well, at least I'm hoping that happens.

Bon Jovi guitarist Sambora 48, has been single since his April 2007 divorce from actress Heather Locklear and a short-lived romance with Locklear's former pal Denise Richards ended last year.

And TV bosses want to help him find love. A source tells OK! magazine, "He's perfect for TV. If you thought Bret (Michaels) was must see TV, you ain't seen anything yet. Richie is going to be a train wreck looking for love."

Sounds pretty tentative, but now that Sambora successfully plea-bargained that whole "driving drunk with his daughter in the back seat" nuisance away, he's free to let VH1's comely lunatics work his talkbox.

Coachella: Let The Sunscreen Application (And Sean Penn-Related Speculation) Begin! The 2008 festival glut begins this weekend in the California desert with this year's edition of Coachella, and with a little more than 72 hours to go until the gates open, the festival's organizers have released the weekend's schedule. While I've been mostly focused on my relief over the fact that I'll have something to do during Roger Waters' two and a half hour festival-closing set (thank you, Black Mountain), an eagle-eyed tipster e-mailed to point out that Sean Penn was on Sunday's bill not once, but twice, with a half-hour set in the early afternoon and a 15-minute set in the early evening. What could he be doing during his allotted time—celebrating the 26th anniversary of Fast Times At Ridgemont High? Introducing one of the artists he'd directed a music video for (maybe Jewel)? Thankfully, posters over at Coachella's message board were on the case:

First, the doubters:

I doubt that a surprise band would pop in for a bangin' 15 minute set. I'm guessing it really is Sean Penn and he wants to talk political shit.

People quickly rose up to remind people that in past years, Tenacious D and Beck have done exactly that at the festival.

into the wild. chris went to coachella. sean directed the film. i predict a bus + some musical surprise.

Which led to the only natural conclusion:

into the wild = eddie veddar. makes SO MUCH SENSE AGGGHH!!!!! that'd rock my world.

Ahh, I love the Internet, how a grain of truth can turn into a full-bloomed flower of all-caps excitement. Whether or not it's actually true, of course, is up for debate, but I look forward to the next 23 pages of message-board speculation that will fill attendees' working hours between now and the moment the gates open on Friday.

Is Beyonce Going To Hang Up Her Hair Extensions? Now that she's maybe married, Beyonce has decided to retire from performing. Maybe! Beyonce's cousin, Angelica, got her name into the papers by blabbing to a New York Daily News source that B's next album will be her last. Instead of singing, the former Destiny's Child leader will scout out talent for her possibly-husband Jay-Z's The Carter Group, which is rumored to be backed by Live Nation. It's like a Jenga game of half-truths, this item! And I can't help but wonder what all the female artists on Columbia Records who were forced into the fifth-fiddle spot by Beyonce and Solange must think of it, given that any female "talent" within the Knowles' orbit was usually rewarded with pushed-back albums and not-as-forceful promotion. Today's Twist In The Axl Saga: Reality TV? wenn821160.jpgI have a hard time imagining Mr. Rose is into this kind of thing, but "a major music-oriented television channel" (do they still have those?) is allegedly trying to get Guns 'N Roses to do a reality TV show chronicling the creation and release of Chinese Democarcy. I'm sure his label would be ecstatic, as it not only would serve as great hype but relieve some the financial burden of spending fifteen years working on a single album. "There is a lot of footage to choose from," said someone who may know something. "Some of it is incredibly personal and revealing about Axl's life." So when will see this this footage of Axl sitting around his mansion in slippers, eating Funyons, and wondering if industrial is still the future of rock?

According to sources at Geffen (Rose's music label) a version of "Chinese Democracy" has been finished and delivered to the label. But there are still outstanding issues between the singer and the label, not the least of which is a recording cost for the project which (depending on who you believe), has reached between $11 and $15 million. Another stickler is the digital rights for the tracks, along with some proposed "bonus" tracks Geffen would like to release digitally.

This reality show project would be part of a larger effort to build buzz for an album which faces a number of promotional hurdles. Rose's recent concert appearances have been erratic at best, and many fans of the classic Guns N' Roses lineup are going to require some persuasion before embracing this new sound. Rose is also not an especially "journalist-friendly" preformer, making promotion for the project even more difficult.

...According to the network source, the deal for the show is "close, but not signed." Part of the holdup seems to be the timing, as the particpants want to integrate the show into a timeline with the leadup to the album's release, along with the announcment of a limited number of concert dates.

Wait, Chinese Democracy has only cost $15 million so far? Hollywood spends that much to get a shot of Nic Cage standing on a rock! I thought dude was supposed to be livin' wild and decadent! I'm bummed.

Glastonbury Festival: Low Sales, Jay-Z Pull-Out Rumors Making Everybody Cranky AP05062408726.jpgRegistration for tickets to the Glastonbury Festival re-opened today, following relatively sluggish sales since Sunday. In previous years, tickets to the three day British event sold out within hours, but over a fifth of the 137,000 tickets remained unsold after the first day. While some blamed the horrible weather that plagued the Festival over the last three years, others claimed that planned headliner Jay-Z was the cause of the lack of enthusiasm. And you know Hov doesn't appreciate that.

After Jay-Z announced he would headline the upcoming four-day O2 Wireless Festival at Hyde Park (an indoor gig) a week after Glastonbury, rumors spread that he would drop out of the earlier festival, offended by claims that British campers aren't psyched to wait through three days of mud (and bands like Kings Of Leon) to see him. Word even got out that Prince might replace him. But Glastonbury organizer Michael Eavis says such claims are rubbish.

Speaking to XFM, Eavis said that the reports of a possible Jay-Z cancellation were "completely unfounded" and "nasty, malicious rumours".
"The Sun was carrying a story that he was pulling out," he continued. "I'm not sure where they got from, probably from the people that were doing a show in London the following week [the Wireless festival in Hyde Park, which Jay-Z is set to headline], because they were tying to sell tickets for their show."

Jay-Z's great and all, but I really can't think of a context where I would be disappointed if he wasn't magically replaced by Prince. Songs, concerts, candid tabloid snaps with Beyonce—Prince would always be preferable.

Live Nation Apparently Willing To Throw Lots Of Cash Jay-Z's Way The New York Times is reporting that Jay-Z and Live Nation are on the verge of agreeing to a $150 million deal that will cover his recordings and tours for the next 10 years, as well as financing for his own venture, which will allegedly be called the Carter Music Group. Once the deal is finalized, Jay will become Live Nation's most highly paid artist, a title that is currently held by Madonna, whose deal with the concert conglomerate comes in at a now-measly-looking $120 million. Earlier rumors claimed that Jay was looking for at least $100 million for the Carter Music Group, with naysayers saying that his pocketing that much money was a impossiblity because "it isn't the '90s anymore." Leona Lewis To Be Offered Potentially Ginormous Recording Deal For Reasons No Mortal Could Fathom AP080128032176.jpgBrit singer Leona Lewis is a success story. She won a reality show, went on Oprah, and shot to the top of the charts all over the world. But she's not the first person to do this, right? This isn't Beatlemania 2008 or anything. So why the hell is the Daily Star saying that Lewis may sign a contract for 100 million dollars this week, 20 million more than was given to Madonna in a similar deal? Don't labels usually hand out money like that after you've amassed a valuable catalog? Are they so desperate for something-anything that connects with listeners that they're running like lemmings to claim this lady?

Her new contract will rocket her straight to the top of Forbes Magazine's list of the highest-earning female artists on the planet. Already the first X Factor millionaire, she could even double the £50million with merchandising deals.

A Forbes spokesman said: "It looks like Leona's heading straight to the top of the financial chart as well. She is an absolute overnight sensation and the rewards she will reap are phenomenal."

Sources close to Clive Davis, boss of J Records - Leona's label in America - say he is "thrilled" to tear up the £4.5million, five-album agreement she signed last year. But he's now facing stiff competition from other labels desperate to grab her. One insider told the Daily Star Sunday: "Nobody dreamed she would suddenly become the most in-demand singer invirtually every country"She is so hot that Clive will have to factor in US and world tours, future album sales that promise to be so huge they're off the chart...and TV specials... and DVD spin-offs.

"Right now, her potential even dwarfs the sort of enormous sales stars like Madonna, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston could expect. The public has been aching for a new female idol since the demise of Britney Spears - and Leona's it."

It's possible that, with ancillary rights included in this rumored contract, one big kill would justify the expenditure. Or maybe Clive is so confident in her staying power that he's willing to take this leap of faith based on one album. Or maybe everyone in the music industry is completely fucking insane.

Rumor has it that the charity show will feature a long-bandied-about Wild Card round during which those five contestants will compete for a slot on the American Idol summer arena tour, which in previous seasons only brought along the top 10. (Alas, the Wild Card winner won't be able to return to the competition itself.) Given that my picks for the past three weeks have been wildly off, I'm going to guess that Luke "Don't Call Me Freddie, No Really" Menard will somehow use the next month or so to rally the a capella singers of America to dial for him until their knuckles bleed, thus allowing him to flail his jazz hands all over the country this summer. So what happened to those plans? Well, some people are claiming that he hasn't gotten wind of the new economy of record labels, and that he "wants a label to give him $100 million for the Carter Music Group and provide for overhead, development and digital investment. It's crazy. He wants the labels to basically be his venture capital fund—but unlike a venture cap, they won't get 50 percent. This is not the '90s anymore." Will Ozzfest Be Revamped Into A Coachella For Metalheads? ozzyahhh.jpgThe last time we wrote about the venerable Ozzfest, it looked as if the annual metal extravaganza was finally being scaled back after a successful decade-plus run, thanks to less-than-stellar attendance last summer. Ozzfest's architects were reportedly planning a "limited run" tour in 2008, down from 25 cities in 2007. But the latest blog blab wonders if this year's Ozzfest won't actually be a tour at all, in what might turn out to be a very limited run indeed.

Yes, Ozzfest is now rumored to be turning into a two-day festival to be held in Texas during one of the most festival-saturated summers in recent memory. Admittedly the headbanging Ozzfest won't really be competing for the same limited audience as the 800 festivals currently set to feature a performance from affable surf goof Jack Johnson and/or the dozens of mid-level indie bands that will spend the hot weather months whoring themselves out to any two-day gathering that will have them. But whatever its eventual size, this year's Ozzfest does feature some direct (and serious) competition in the form of the Mayhem Tour, a new summertime package put together by the braintrust behind the Warped Tour. And with the Mayhem Tour already siphoning off metal acts that might have otherwise been courted by Sharon and Ozzy, the incredible shrinking Ozzfest may be the only way left to attract the big-name bands scared off by last year's botched free admission policy, a concession to a shrinking number of fans that meant none of Ozzfest's bands got paid for spending their summer cooped up on tour busses and playing for agitated, half-full arenas. A reasonable admission fee, some positive press spin, and (mostly importantly) two days of the cream of the metal crop might just be enough to get fans below the Mason-Dixon to caravan to Dallas for what would be the biggest metal fest in the U.S. Or a mediocre lineup and lackluster attendance might further shrink Ozzfest to a no-day event in 2009. Or all this speculation might be based on Internet malarkey! We'll see!

Is U2 Going To Leave Universal Music Group Behind? bono.jpgMaybe, according to Fox rumormonger Roger Friedman. Word is that U2 is one of two outfits currently in negotiations for a deal with Live Nation that would be similar tothe 360-degree payday that Madonna scored last fall. The Bono-led band, which started out its career on Island Records and has put out records in the U.S. on Interscope, went triple-platinum in the States with its 2004 album How To Build An Atomic Bomb; Friedman's tipster is claiming that the band's contract with its label was either fulfilled by Bomb or the recently released remaster of The Joshua Tree.

If the Live Nation deal does come to pass, it'll be interesting to see how U2's recording career is handled by the company; they're one of the few bands out there that can rake in the big bucks on tour and still sell a lot of records, although who knows how their album sales will fare in this year's ever-decimated retail landscape. (Madonna still sells records, but I think her recorded-music profile is nowhere near as high as U2's.) This year, according to manager Paul McGunness, U2 will release two albums: the music for the Julie Taymor-directed Spider-Man musical and a traditional rock album. If the deal does come to pass and the rumors of U2 being free from Universal Music Group's clutches are true, questions of who will be responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of Live Nation-distributed albums will have to be answered a lot more quickly than when Madonna signed on, as she still has one album to put out with her soon-to-be-former label Warner Bros.

Michael Jackson May Return To Grammy Stage, May Not Open His Mouth While Appearing Is Michael Jackson going to show up at the Grammys? Perhaps! Reporter Diane Dimond, who released a book on Jacko's molestation case last year, is still hearing Jacko-related news, and she says that according to some memo traffic leaked her way, Sony-BMG is "pulling out all the stops to help its one time mega-star re-enter the pop music scene." And since the 25th-anniversary version of Thriller comes out on Feb. 12—two days after NARAS' big 50th-anniversary show—what better way to celebrate than with the onetime King Of Pop showing up in some capacity?

"On top of all the fantastic new tracks there are many things in the works that we are going to do to make 2008 truly the year of THRILLER," according to the SONY-BMG memo traffic. Specifically mentioned: Grammy involvement (as in Michael Jackson will appear - and maybe sing?) - A planned TV special (featuring just Michael or the long discussed reunion with his brothers?) and potential live shows. Hmmmmmm. Wonder what they mean by that and who might be scheduled to perform at these live shows? Watch for involvement with YouTube, Facebook, iLike, iTunes, I've learned.

Dimond has since told the LA Times' Tom O'Neil that she's 90% certain that Michael will show up at the awards ceremony, although whether or not he'll sing is still up in the air. Last time he showed up at an awards show, the results were, well, somewhat awkward, but part of me is holding out hope for Michael to return to his former glory, and maybe start off his comeback slowly—perhaps by lending a few "mama se, mama sa"s to Rihanna and the Time's performance of "Don't Stop The Music," and keeping Fergie and will.i.am far, far away.

Can Michael Jackson still sing? [DianeDimond.net]

Chinese Democracy: The Present You Didn't Even Know You Were Getting? 71764101.jpgDid you know that deranged perfectionist/cheeky rascal Axl Rose apparently had the "finished" Chinese Democracy in the can before any of us managed to trim the tree or light a single menorah candle? Yes, the mixed and completed and ready to ship CD is no longer a rumor according to no less an authority than Classic Rock Magazine. Thanks to a vague on-the-record quote or two they managed to squeeze out of Axl's manager, "it's a fact!"

Classic Rock recently tracked down Beta Lebeis, personal manager of Axl Rose, who confirmed to us that Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy album "was finished before Christmas".

She added: "Everybody knows that."

Lebeis said Axl is currently "in negotiations".

Lebeis, who is more often referred to in the media as Axl's personal assistant/den mother than GNR's (or Axl's) "manager" per se, was mum on details of said negotiations, and at the risk of sounding skeptical of Rose's ability to close any sort of deal, we'll go out on a limb and assume that the album (or its gift card equivalent) won't be in anyone's stocking next year, either.

Coachella: The Rumormongering Rages On! Kevin Bronson at the Los Angeles Times has a sort of update on the heatstroke-inducing desert jam that is Coachella Festival, the lineup of which is being announced next week. According to Bronson, not only is the above poster totally off, My Bloody Valentine will not be one of the "surprising veteran act[s]" on the show's roster—but who cares, because apparently Portishead is going to be there! Maybe I should brave the desert, although I'd need to stock up on some SPF 150 and a gigantic floppy hat before doing so. A list of bands who are, so far, totally definitely 100% rumored to be appearing according to the Internets and blog boards and such after the jump. Can you say "yay, '90s"?

Death Cab for Cutie
The Breeders
Justice
Jens Lekman
Junkie XL
The Verve
UNKLE
Cold War Kids
Chromeo
Autolux
Spiritualized
Portishead
VHS or Beta
Dan Deacon
Brett Dennen
The Cinematic Orchestra
Battles
Kid Sister
Crystal Castles
Louis XIV

Also, some commenter at Brooklyn Vegan is claiming that Led Zeppelin is playing but how many times have we heard that old song and dance lately.

"Chinese Democracy": Is It All Over But The Marketing Plan? There are 50 Tuesdays left in 2008, which means that there are 50 more chances for all of us to wonder if Chinese Democracy will really, finally be released at some time prior to the impending apocalypse. The latest rumor regarding this years-in-the-making album: It's done! But Axl Rose and his label don't quite see eye-to-eye on how the album will be marketed, which is leading to further delays. What could the disagreement have stemmed from?

The label's ideas probably went something like this:
• Billboards reading "You know you're curious. CHINESE DEMOCRACY." in 300-point type.
• Lil Wayne remixes of every song on the album to get the "blogger crowd" interested.
• Handing out postcards at Velvet Revolver shows.
• Commemorative dolphin shows at Sea World.

But Axl probably balked at those (even the dolphin one!)—in favor of a genius brainstorm of his own:

Axl: "I need two million dollars for the first video."

Record exec: "No."

But still! 50 Tuesdays left! There's still time, right?
