Soul Train Awards 2011: Winners And Performances, Including Heavy D Tribute

With the exceptions of Chris Brown winning Album Of The Year for F.A.M.E. and Miguel being named Best New Artist, it was primarily ladies' night at the 2011 Soul Train Awards, which went down on November 17 at Atlanta's Fox Theatre, but aired last night on BET. That said, a bit of female star power was missing as winners like Nicki Minaj (Best Hip Hop Song), Beyonce (Best Dance Performance), Kelly Rowland (Song Of The Year) and Rihanna (Best Caribbean Performance) were not in attendance. Catch some of the performances, including the tribute to the late Heavy D, and the list of winners below.

Chris Brown, Kanye West, Beyonce & Adele Nab Soul Train Nominations

Following his big wins at the recent BET Hip Hop Awards, Chris Brown has kept the momentum going by landing five nominations for the upcoming Soul Train Awards, which will air on November 27 on BET (though the event will be taped on November 17 in Atlanta). Among Breezy's nods: Best Male R&B/Soul Artist, Album Of The Year — where he'll face off against Kanye West, who has four nominations — and Song Of The Year, another category that Kanye is up for as well.

The Soul Train Awards Return

The 2009 Soul Train Awards aired last night on Centric. The ceremony was scrapped last year following the writer’s strike.
Terrance Howard and Taraji P. Henson hosted, Michael Jackson won Entertainer Of the Year, Keri Hilson (also a winner, for Best Collaboration) performed a medley of her hits and Beyonce pretty much swept things up by snagging Album Of The Year, Best R&B/Soul Artist Female and Song Of The Year (”Single Ladies”).
Throughout the night, Fantasia, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone and Ledisi paid tribute to Chaka Khan, while host Taraji P. Henson donned her best Diana Ross drag for a Motown revue that also included Chico DeBarge and Boyz II Men.
