Coldplay’s Chris Martin & Stephen Colbert Trade Comical Jabs

Fri Oct 21 2011 by Robbie Daw
Before launching into performances of "Paradise" and "Up In Flames" on last night's The Colbert Report, Coldplay's Chris Martin sat down with Stephen Colbert for a bit of promo to support Mylo Xyloto (out next week), an album whose title is "Greek for Miley Cyrus," according to the talk show host. The pair traded a few insults and barbs, including this one from Colbert, in reference to Martin's wife: "You're not an American. You come to our country and you took our Gwyneth. And you cannot begin to tell me that that is a job that an American didn't want to do." More »

Lupe Fiasco Gets Political On ‘The Colbert Report,’ Performs With Skylar Grey

Tue May 10 2011 by Robbie Daw
After taking a political stand with his "Words I Never Said" video, Lupe Fiasco hit up The Colbert Report last night to perform the Lasers single with chorus crooner Skylar Grey and express his views on government power during a sitdown. "I'm a taxpayer, so it's like that gives me a right to critique everybody," Lupe said. Host Stephen Colbert then asked the rapper if the ultimate criticism would be to not pay his taxes. "But I'd be like Wesley Snipes then," Fiasco quipped. Watch the one-on-one between Lupe and Stephen below. More »

Cee Lo Says “Fox News” On ‘The Colbert Report’

Wed Nov 10 2010 by Becky Bain
Promoting his album The Lady Killer, the impeccably dressed Cee Lo Green stopped by The Colbert Report to perform his hit "F*** You". Unlike his heavily censored performance on Letterman earlier this week, Cee Lo could sing his original, R-rated lyrics with carefree abandon. As a bonus, the singer replaced the song's explecatives in an alternative version with the much more controversial "Fox News." Watch both the Not Safe For Work and Not Safe For Conservative News Programs performances below. More »

Gorillaz Appear On ‘The Colbert Report,’ Damon Albarn Trashes Simon Cowell

Fri Apr 23 2010 by Robbie Daw
Recent Coachella performers Gorillaz appeared on The Colbert Report last night—or rather, the virtual band's human "counterparts," Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, did. The fact that 2D, Murdoc Niccals and the rest of the gang "stood up" Stephen Colbert ticked him off, so he sent his own dressed-down backup to interview Albarn and Hewlett, instead. And things really got off to a great start! First question posed to the English group: "Who the f*ck do you think you are?"

Watch the full interview with the band, plus their performance of "Stylo" with Bobby Womack, after the jump! More »

Stephen Colbert Raps With Alicia Keys, Jay-Z Put On Alert

Wed Dec 16 2009 by Becky Bain

Alicia Keys performed “Empire State of Mind, Pt. II (Broken Down)” on The Colbert Report last night to promote just-released album The Element of Freedom. And Alicia had a very special guest rapper accompany her on the song—no, not Jay-Z. Someone even better.

Stephen Colbert threw on a hoodie and performed an original rap interlude about living next to the Guggenheim Museum before moving to Connecticut and having a 60-inch plasma TV. Hilarious clip (made even funnier by a super-professional Alicia somehow managing to not crack up) after the jump: More »

Justin Timberlake Gets A Very Special Emmy Nomination Box

Thu Jul 16 2009 by Maura

Nominees for the 61st annual Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and while 30 Rock came away with the highest number of overall mentions, we should probably extend a bit of congratulations to the increasingly multitalented Justin Timberlake, who walked away with three nominations—two songs he contributed lyrics to received Outstanding Original Music honors, and he was also tabbed for a Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series nod in honor of his stint guest-hosting Saturday Night Live. The two songs that Timberlake had a hand in, and some of their competition, after the jump. More »

Wilson On “Colbert” On Celine

Thu Mar 5 2009 by Lucas Jensen

James Franco’s name-check of Carl Wilson’s ode to Celine Dion’s Let’s Talk About Love on the Oscars’ red carpet was an unexpected brush with the mainstream for Wilson’s tome, not to mention the 33 1/3 “book-an-album” series. Las night, Wilson appeared on The Colbert Report to discuss his book, which I am anxious to squeeze into my heavy work schedule of writing one day a week, typing my grandpa’s memoirs, thinking about starting to finish my final portfolio, and playing Fable II on my Xbox 360.

Nas Brings His 600,000-Plus Signatures To Stephen Colbert’s Place

Thu Jul 24 2008 by Maura

On the heels of the Fox News protest he led outside the NewsCorp Building and his album hitting No. 1, Nas stopped by the Colbert Report to chat with Stephen about why he was in a flame war with Fox and Bill O’Reilly in particular, the scrapped title of his album, and how the news media is somehow more sensationalist than ever before. Video of him performing his Fox News dis “Sly Fox” after the jump.
