Wed Dec 15 2010 by Idolator Staff
With the year just about wrapped up, we here at Idolator decided to get together, pore over our individual iPods and revisit the music that got us motivated in 2010. Perhaps some of the following 10 albums weren't the most critically acclaimed, but they were ones that inspired our hopes, heart-felt dreams and repeated plays while we navigated Planet Pop here on the website each day over the past 12 months. And so, in no particular order other than alphabetical... More »

Freshen Up Your 4th Of July BBQ Playlist With These 8 American Jams

Thu Jul 1 2010 by Idolator Staff
We know you must be giddy about your upcoming three-day weekend, filled with all the burgers, booze and fireworks our forefathers hoped you'd be enjoying while celebrating America's 234th birthday bash. And what's a party without music?

In anticipation of the 4th of July, we've rounded up the perfect tunes to rock out to all day long, whether you're lounging poolside or stuck in horrible traffic on your way to the beach. We're limiting our list to pop songs recorded in the last decade instead of reaching far back into America's musical songbook— just like Thomas Jefferson and the rest of the Declaration of Independence posse, we're in the mood for something fresh. (We've still included a Brit on our list, just to be nice.) Our patriotic playlist awaits you below! More »

Who Sang It Best? The Bird And The Bee And Fruit Bats Tackle Hall And Oates’ “One On One”

Wed Mar 24 2010 by Erika Brooks Adickman

As part of their "Undercover" series, The A.V. Club has enlisted 25 indie artists to cover 25 hits. For their latest installment, they invited the Fruit Bats to remake Hall And Oates' 80's classic "One On One". When asked why he chose this song from the list to cover, Fruit Bats drummer Brian Belval joked, "I like this song cause I'm a big fan of basketball". Fruit Bats aren't the only ones to cover Daryl and John's hit. As you may remember, The Bird And The Bee included a rendition in their just-released Hall And Oates tribute album Guiltless Pleasures Volume 1: A Tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates. Have a listen to both after the jump and help us decide who sang it best.

PHOTOS: The Bird And The Bee Concert At The El Rey In L.A.

Mon Mar 8 2010 by Erika Brooks Adickman

The Bird And The Bee, a.k.a Inara George and Greg Kurstin, played a homecoming concert at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theater last Friday, March 5th. The concert quickly turned into a Q & A as fans shouted to Inara, “When are you due?” “Boy or girl?” and “Who’s the daddy?”. There was no denying that “The Bird” (who wore a maternity dress that looked M.I.A. approved), had a baby chick on the way. TBATB played some old favorites like “Diamond Dave” and “My Love”, but the concert mainly focused on their new album, a Hall and Oates tribute called Guiltless Pleasures. The biggest surprise of the night was John Oates himself taking the stage to play guitar his own hit, “Maneater”, with Greg and Inara. See all the pretty snaps here and then listen to their cover of “Kiss On My List” and you just might forget it’s Monday. More »
