Grammys Backlash: 10 Artists Who Are Over The Awards Show

Thu Feb 9 2012 by Mike Wass
For as long as there have been music awards, there have been musicians with opinions about those music awards, and the Grammys are no exception. Depending on your point of view, Arcade Fire trumping commercial heavyweights Lady Gaga, Eminem and Katy Perry for Album of the Year at last year's ceremony was either the event's salvation or the moment it jumped the shark.

That polarizing victory reignited a decades-old debate about the relevance and future direction of the awards show. Grammy nominees — and Grammy wannabes — have long argued over whether the music industry's most prestigious trophy has become meaningless in the face of commercialization, and whether an artist's sales figures and cultural impact should be taken into account when choosing Grammy winners. Jump below to see 10 of the most famous Grammy beefs in recent memory. More »

Rihanna’s “Umbrella” Earned The-Dream $15 Million

Tue Jan 3 2012 by Erika Brooks Adickman
When The-Dream dropped by Tim Westwood‘s BBC radio show earlier today, we don't think the R&B singer-songwriter expected that Rihanna's "Umbrella" would become a topic of conversation. The host put the 1977 artist in the hot seat regarding his earnings on the 2007 track, and Terius reluctantly revealed that he made a pretty penny by penning the track — $15 million to be exact. Watch below as the 34-year-old discusses his wives (past and present), how he keeps "baby mama drama" to a minimum and how he came to co-write Justin Bieber's mega-hit "Baby". More »

The-Dream Scores The Bronze With ‘1977′ Album Cover

Wed Aug 3 2011 by Becky Bain
While we wait for The-Dream's delayed The Love IV (Diary of a Mad Man) (now to drop sometime later this year), the singer/producer is dropping a 10-track LP called 1977. Not coincidentally at all, that happens to be the year of his birth, and Dream will be releasing it under his given name, Terius Nash. The classic art-inspired album cover, which appears to have a hidden clock face of some kind, reminds us of Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch The Throne cover in pretentiousness alone. 1977 drops August 31.
